View Full Version : Eek! How important is J&D?

So we BD on the night of CD10. For a # of reasons, I chose not to J&D. The main one is because we were only doing 1 attempt but also because we abstained for 10 days, DH is 37, I am 36 and also because I thought it would be a 2 day cut off. It was shallow, missionary, no big O but I didn't move for 30 min. I have never, ever O'd before day 12. (usually day 12 or 13) Well, wouldn't you know this would be that month. I woke up this AM on CD 12 and my temp is clearly above cover line. From my cervix, I would judge that I O'd sometime overnight, closer to morning. So maybe a 30 hr cut off? We also did not use any gels or anything because my pH was already 4 and I had barely any ewcm, practically none.
Now I am regretting not J&D'ing. I have been on the LE diet for 11 weeks with hardly any cheats (except Christmas Eve and Day) - no cheats since, no breakfasts, lost 17 pounds - am 115lb 5ft 6in - (lightest since high school), taking Vitex.... Hope it's enough!

Hello Need a girl!
I think it sounds great and the timing is perfect to actually get pregnant!
We are almost the same age (I am older) and we weigh roughly the same!
How much vitex are you taking?
Have you tried before with shallow? It did not work for me.
Why did you only do one attempt? Was it to be different from your previous bding with your boys?

I don't think it's at all important - and I actually think having DH release shallow is kind of achieving the same as a Jump and Dump (we did JAD but not shallow). For all the other reasons you mention, you've done plenty to lower sperm count anyway. Good luck for a BFP!

Sounds like a really good attempt!

Lemon - I am taking 400 of Vitex twice daily. Started at the end of October. It hasn't really seemed to mess with my cycles or anything. (except maybe this early O!) We only did one attempt because even though my pH is low, DH's is high. Also both my DS's were frequent bd babes. We never abstain this long either! I guess with abstaining it seems silly to me to dtd more than once.

if you're doing other stuff to lower sperm count I don't think it's important either

Sounds like a great attempt to me!!! You really kicked butt with the diet. I'll prob. follow suit and do 1 attempt at o and won't J&D to up my chances to get pregnant.....Good luck!!!

So my body is wonky and I think that my temp this morning must have been off. I did get woken up a few times last night but not really any more than normal. Like I said, I have NEVER O'd before day 12. I have charted 30+ charts, almost always O on CD12. My OPK at 7AM was still + but went negative by about 1PM. I still felt like my cervix was really soft and slippery (but no EW). At 5PM, I had my classic O pain - although it was on the left which is weird - it is on my right 90% of the time. By 8PM my cervix is lower, firmer and def change in CM. The only other possibility is that I O'd twice, about 12 hours apart. I know that is not that common but I think it has happened at least 1x before. So I am tempted to discard my temp this am and pin O today. Would make about a 42 hour cut off or so... I know that you can't really pinpoint O exactly but what I feel today correlates to all my other months.

you know your body best, I'd do that if you think O day was today
lucky you getting OV pains! I never get them so am always clueless (well, less clueless with the help of temping)

Don't wish for them Rainbow (except maybe when ttc!) because they're flipping painful - mine are far worse than my period pains!

If you did abstain and one attempt, with very little EWCM, I would not worry about not J and D.
Esp. since you did so well on the diet! :agree:

ACtually Oing more than once is not at all uncommon, it may happen in 40% of all cycles and the older you are, the more likely it is.
I would put a LOT more stock into my temp than O pain, cervix, or CM. You can get O pain before, during, and after O and in fact, O pain after ovulation is extremely common because when you O, you release the fluid that was in the ovary and it can irritate your abdominal cavity and cause pain. It can be more noticeable if you are taking baby aspirin or cran.

thanks! Guess we'll see what happens. Twins would be crazy but twin girls would be amazing! (long shot I know but wishful thinking) I really hope this is the month. I will stay strict on the diet for the next 10 days and if I get a bfn at that point, I'll prob cheat for a day and go back hard core. AS do you know if vitex increases the chance of hyperovulation?

Need a girl,...are you going to try and put in another attempt?
Twins??? What gave you that idea?

I was just joking about twins - just the talk about ovulating more than once. I won't be putting in another attempt this month. I am definitely post o and I don't believe in o+12. Not sure if we will dtd more than once next month if this one didn't work. Prob not. Prob will do abstinence again with one attempt at + opk which would be less than 24 hrs before o.

Hey Need a girl....I need your advice,...I am older (38) and we dtd once last night. This morning I have a postive super dark OPK and all the symptoms that I will ovulate any time now. I get major pains, EW and backache.
I am not sure whether to leave it as one attempt or put more in there.
It feels more like a boy sway.
What do you think?

If it were me, I would leave it. If you are on the diet than it doesn't sound like a boy attempt to me. Actually I think it would be a little more boyish if you dtd again.

(Might be tmi) I always jump and dump, never really knew I did, we always dtd and then right afterwards(literally as soon as he releases I jump up because I don't won't to mess the sheets up lol) I get up and clean myself, and then when I started on the swaying sites I find out it has a name lol, so I don't think it matters because jump and dump never mattered for me :)

Yes, vitex is believed to contribute to twinning. I conceived twins on it.

Just because it didn't seem to matter for you when you conceived your boys, that doesn't mean it can't help others (and can still help you with this sway!) If you have a lot of other blue factors going your way, they can counteract any one thing you do.

Did you do frequent release? if you did frequent then YES I think you should DTD again. you guys have been trying for so long, Lemon, you need to pull the trigger and conceive before you run out of time.

Of course, twins can be quite easily conceived with one round of BD!! Jon and Kate Plus 8 had sex one time!

Thanks atomic...no FR...tried that last month and DH hated it...not really our style I guess. He released or bd 9 times in a few days!
I think I always sabotoged it with rephresh, replens, douching, shallow or something....! So, I just figured it is not that I am infertile...I am scared of another boy...which I know I will love I just have to get pregnant.
I ovulated today and I have major o pains. I am worried a cyst ruptured and figure I need to see the doctor as this rate.
We did try again last night but with two kids who would not stay in bed and a howling dog...after 1 hour we gave up and went to sleep...oh dear!
So, we still have a shot today but I am in major pain.
Atomic...if you read this....maybe you can advise...?
No FR and just one time with abstaining so far....!

I did not jump and dump with this one. I waited about 20 minutes before going to the bathroom. I think you did a lot of other things so I would not worry too much about it. Good luck!

Yes, if you do all those other things, then you reduce your odds of pg SO far that you may as well be on BC.
I wouldn't count on being fertile even if you ahve several kids already. It does happen that people develop "secondary infertility" and so if you've been trying for many, many months with no success, you may need to see a doctor jsut to rule things out. Of course, I think you need to START with dropping one of the bazillion sway tactics you guys are doing! ;)
I have crippling O pains much of the time, like as bad as early labor. It does happen without a cyst rupturing or anything. (I had an ovarian cyst once and it was NOT when I was Oing). Of course, if you're concenred about it, you should see a doc just to rule anything out.
I would try again but if you are in pain, you can't torture yourself either.

No, Kate was on Clomid and the doctor saw all the follicles and told them not to have intercourse under any circumstances and they went home and did it anyway. She was supposed to do IUI and publicly claims she DID do IUI, but she is lying because no RE on the face of the planet would do an IUI on someone with that many ripe follicles. Doctors check for that before they do IUI.
