CO-ENZYME Q10.... Ubidecarenone VS Ubiquinol? Supp dose please....
Hi Dr Potter,
Another question on supps if I may please..... CoQ10...
- Can it be taken right through ER & ET and pregnancy?
What dose is recommended prior to cycling as a supp for quality? I have read that Lori advises 400mg, but I assume that would have to be of the Ubidecarenone form as I read that the Ubiquinol is approx 10 times more potent?? The Ubidecarenone form comes in 150mg capsules where as the Ubiquinol comes in 50gm capsules (so I assume 8 x the recommended dose on the bottle is NOT practical).
Could you please clarify.
Thankyou

I am not Dr P, but I personally wouldn't take swisse vitamins for something like this, I would only use a quality vitamin with less fillers and better active ingredients. Plus their dosing will be very low, you can go to a quality pharmacist or naturopath and get supplements like the one below. Be careful not to go too overboard, I think sometimes we go overboard on the supps and we forget that we are fertile people wheras where most people who need a lot of supps in IVF are suffering fertility issues.

Thanks Glory,
I guess my main concern was the dose - if they have the same active ingredients is there really that much difference? This only lists the active ingredient the same as the one you listed. The swisse says "no added egg, lactose, gluten, yeast or artificial flavours" so I am not sure where to find out about fillers, etc?

The Ubiquinol form is better used by your body and unlike many vitamins where the difference is really nominal, it's probably worth the expense to get Ubiquinol.
I have people take between 50-100 mg Coq10 for gender swaying. Your body actually is able to make Coq10 as well and you can get it from fish, meat, and whole grains (don't eat fish more than 2x a week)
I would never exceed the amounts recommended on the bottles of vitamins no matter what Lori or anyone says. Different brands/forms of vitamins are formulated differently and while the company (probably, we hope) understands the differences and calculates their doses accordingly, we don't know and you could inadvertently end up taking too much of something. More is not better when it comes to nutrients, too high a dose is actually worse than not enough in many cases.!!! Questions?? Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

The bio ceuticals one is practitioner only so you need to speak to someone about it, but first off cause of this the strength is higher, 150 compared to Swisse 50. They recommend 1 a day. I have never taken that particular one but I see a naturopath and they will advise higher than bottle dose but I wouldn't otherwise. As the bottle will say the dose or as advised by a practitioner.
With vitamins you pay for what you get, there is no comparison between a vitamin supplement like Eagle or this one and Swisse/Blackmores etc...13 years 11 years 6 years & our HT miracle 2 years

I'm not so convinced that when we are talking about one specific ingredient that the brand matters as much as the right form / dose. I would agree with a multi or a specialised formula such as the higher dose epa / dha mix. That's just my opinion though, so for now I guess I'm happy to use the Swisse since I have it here.
My confusion is if people are taking 3 of the 150mg coq10 ubidecarenone (to reach the min recommended 400mg dose) and that is considered sufficient and the ubiquinol form is apparently 10+ times more potent then is 400mg of the ubiquinol extreme (that would be 8 times the daily recommended dose on the bottle which seems extreme)? Or are those taking 400mg of the ubidecarenone (which also may not be absorbed as well) not taking enough?
It doesn't make sense to me that the advised dose for both forms would be 400mg.
Also, are there any side effects to be concerned about with taking too much?? Low BP / affect on blood, etc?

I suppose that is my point, the Swisse brand will be a minimum dose, because it is easily available on the shelves, the bio ceuticals one is 3 times that dose already. I believe if you went to a naturopath they would double the dose, so that is only 2 of those capusles compared to 6 of the Swisse.
Vitamins and supplements bought available at a supermarket will be minimum dosing as you don't have a practitioner advising you. So I don't think the daily dose recommended on the Swisse bottle would be enough for what you want it for. You may need to take quite a lot to get a good benefit.13 years 11 years 6 years & our HT miracle 2 years
