ADD/ADHD before period?
Does this happen to anyone else?? Instead of PMS I am barely able to concentrate for 3-5 days before I get my period. (it's not psychological either because I noticed it before my first PPAF about 6 months ago and even posted about how weird I felt on FB, and then AF came less than an hour later) I also have a lot of trouble sleeping. It is REALLY REALLY BAD this month and I can hardly function the last few days esp. today. What should I do??? Any tips??

Yes! I have insane insomnia, it creeps up on me and gets worse every night for a few days, until the day before, when I usually can't sleep at all (and don't feel totally exhausted the next day, either). I feel very wired, anxious, and scattered. Not quite ADD but definitely hyperactive, and probably my OCD prevents full on ADD. It's actually my only PMS symptom. I have wondered if it's psychological, like anxiety about my period starting, but I don't know why I'd be anxious about it AND I've had the hyperactive/insomniac phase since I was a teen. It must be some weird hormonal thing?
Oh, and often I will feel very energetic and productive - but without any trace of the former anxiety, which disappears almost instantly when I start bleeding fully - for the first 1-2 days of my period. It's like I enjoy the rush once I lose that jittery edge. I kinda look forward to it, in fact.Last edited by maidentomother; March 16th, 2014 at 04:49 PM.

That is the main reason I was on 1/2 a prozac pill before falling pregnant! I turn into a mess, it's not only PMS, I sleep badly, I rave like a lunatic, I cry and I make everyone around miserable. Maybe you could have a chat with your GP and see if there's something that can help? So sorry you're feeling like that, it's awful!

I forgot to mention, I only had the pill 10 days before my period at first, I increased it to daily by choice, but 10 days before period is the norm for PMS issues.

I get insomnia before I get my period. Which, in turn, creates some fussiness (not really ADD, just a shorter attention span) in the following days. In fact, I can tell very nearly the day my period will come (mine always begin between 6-9 at night) because that night before I am just laying awake in bed all.night.long with very brief episodes of sleep. It's been like this since I had my first son, but I didn't have a period for years before that, so I don't know if it's something that would have happened the whole time. I don't remember if it was like that back when I was a teen. I just figure it's hormonally related. I tend to sleep more when I'm on my period and I nearly always get a migraine the day after my last day of bleeding. Maybe some folks are more sensitive to the changes?

thank you so much! It is better today but yesterday was just crazy. I guess in retrospect I remember having scattered days but maybe never interpreted them as being menstrual till this last PPAF because I just felt so different and then AF showed up. Good to know LOL!

I get similar symptoms during PMS. I think sleep is super beneficial so sometimes I take a Valerian or another natural sleep aide. I am like one of the previous posters where I am not tired after a night of insomnia but I get wired and buzzy...I think getting sleep, even though its herb/drug induced is what works best for me.
But no, you aren't alone in the PMS insanity!

I am pretty sure I already have ADD but not sure if it gets worse around AF time. I do feel down but that could be due to being more ADD than usual and getting frustrated about it
DPs sons 21 +13 11 + our 6 4 year old identical twins!
I might actually be over my deep yearning for a and it's an exciting feeling
