In Southern CA we ate at Ruby's (a diner) at least 4 or 5 times during our 10 day stay. They are everywhere, inexpensive, and GREAT for the kids!

If you are staying at the Lodge in Laguna Hills, BJ's is in walking distance. The food is blah but OMG they have this thing called Pizzookie and its AMAZING! It's a warm cookie fresh out of the oven with a scoop of ice cream on top. They also have great beer.
