How much folic acid?
I am planning my sway for next month and while I have been making diet changes for a few weeks I haven't yet started taking any supps.
How much folic acid should I be taking?
Is that the only thing I need to be taking?
Thanks.

I like you guys to be taking 1200-1600 mcg (yes, I know it is more than the common recommendations) Take this throughout the first trimester (compensating for amount in prenatal) and then gradually wean off at that point. Folate is better if you can afford it.
Many people also take fiber. I cannot give any guidance for other supps without a custom plan since I know nothing about your age, health situation, etc.

Thanks Atomic.
Should I start taking Folate now, or just when I begin TTC?
Do I wean off during the second trimester and go off it all together, or stay on a low dose through the pregnancy?

Take it now as it is the only thing ever shown to prevent birth defects when taken before pregnancy.
Yes wean off at the end of first trimester by gradually spacing doses, till down to the amount in your prenatal (usually 400-1000 mcg)
