I'm not sure you're going to get many responses simply because the odds are long.

If you have unlimited resources to throw at it, that's one thing, but if you're hoping to get pregnant with one attempt please prepare yourself because what the docs tell you is very likely not going to be positive news.

Would you consider donor eggs? That's going to be your best shot.

Conceiving naturally works differently though. The way it was explained to me is like an old jalopy LOL (I am way older than you so I'm totally an old jalopy!) Even if you put the pedal all the way down to the floor and use 10 gallons of gas an hour it only goes 25 miles an hour. While a new car can take that 10 gallons of gas and go 100 miles an hour instead. Since HT is a numbers game, making 1 or 2 good eggs a month is NOT enough, even though you can easily get pregnant with one or two good eggs a month. You need 10 or 20 good eggs to have a successful IVF round and our bodies just are not always capable of doing that even if we are still able to get pregnant naturally easily.

But the catch is that the cheaper clinics are cheaper for a reason (and 17 people will now chime in and argue about this but the numbers don't lie) and if you end up giving yourself much worse chances and it's a false economy.

Just to pull numbers out of thin air to illustrate:

2 cycles at good clinic, you get 1 xy the first cycle (boo! hiss!) but with the second, get one XX (yay!)

5 cycles at bad clinic: No retrieval, no retrieval, all abnormals, one xy, transfer XX but chemical.

It would be super awesomely wonderful to have the unicorn and find a cheap clinic that got good results for moms over 40 but even though I know I'm coming off like a big fat meanie who wants to rain on your parade, you have to live in the REAL WORLD and unless the protocol and the skill of the doc and the lab techs are best of the best, you are not giving yourself any chance at all, let alone your best chance.

It can but they are more expert at every stage of the operation. Better protocol, better lab practices, better at transfer, better at caring for you afterwards - it MATTERS. IT is NOT down to luck alone and a person who is already coming into it at a disadvantage due to age, you want to put yourself into the best hands you can put yourself in IMO. Good luck!
