Been stalking this website for awhile!

Hello! I have been reading this website for a little while and finally decided to join in. I am TTC a girl but honestly if we had a boy I would be ecstatic too. I always go back and forth with it: it would be awesome to give our son a brother to relate to but I also think it would be great to have the experience of raising a daughter. I was considering doing the LE Diet but here is my issue: I am about 95 lbs, very petite framed, BMI is an 18-18.5, so I have no weight to lose. What do you recommend I do? I already don't eat much red meat but do eat pretty balanced and healthy for the most part. I am worried if I lose anything I will not ovulate. Sorry if this question should be somewhere else!

Hi there. Hopefully atomic will SW this but given your very low BMI, I agree you should not lose any weight. It's not healthy for you or a potential baby. I would focus on where you get your calories and the types of foods you consume.

That's too low of a weight to lose anything though. Health has to be a priority.

I agree. I am not willing to lose any weight. I just wonder what other petite women did to sway? I tried searching the boards but have not seen anything. I was a marathon runner through October and have stopped running because we will TTC soon and my weight is the same. I have always been this way my whole life. Like I said before, I eat balanced and eat good calories so I guess I could take a look at the types of food I eat. Thanks!

    Hi and welcome!

I have people with no weight to lose adjust diet in a more pink-friendly way - so vegetarian, more carbs, less protein, dropping any highly fortified foods and multivitamin supps, possibly less fat if you eat much of it, and then getting a higher % of your fat from less healthy vegetarian sources (Omega 6aka soy, corn, veg oil, shortening, margarine )instead of animal/saturated/healthy veg. sources (omega 3, animal fat, saturated fat, olive oil, coconut oil) and then hold steady with your weight.

I could easily go vegetarian. I eat meat when it is there in front of me but I don't crave it ever, so that would be a simple change. I could also drop my multivitamin. I already cook with margarine and vegetable oil. Where I get most of my fat is in milkshakes and ice cream! I get a chocolate chip milkshake with chocolate milk a couple nights a week, so maybe I could stop doing that and have a Yoplait light or something instead.

One more question and then I will start posting on the correct boards once I learn how to navigate better. The past few months I have had (TMI) thickish brown spotting/discharge for about 4-5 days before my "red flow" (which I just count as CD 1). My cycle length is anywhere from 32-39 days. It's enough brown stuff to where I need more than a panty liner but a pad works fine. Progesterone levels are fine as I got things checked out a few weeks ago (they found nothing abnormal in blood work). I was reading about Vitex as a good girl sway and that it helps women regulate their cycles. I can usually predict when mine will start within a few days or so but would Vitex help with that brown stuff or not so much? Just curious. Thanks for your help!

While the fat in dairy does tend to be saturated fat (on paper would sway blue) if you are getting most of your fat from the veg oil/margarine, it seems to be the proportion that matters - higher Omega 6's = more girls conceived. So I actually think you could still include ice cream in perhaps a smaller serving than normal. Or replace with a full-fat yogurt such as Mountain High, Zoi, or Brown Cow mixed with some lower nutrient fruit like strawberries, while still maintaining that fat intake.

Re the spotting, a progesterone test really doesn't tell the full story because at about a week before AF is due, the corpus luteum (part of your ovary that makes progesterone) begins to break down and under normal circumstances your body produces a little burst of estrogen to help maintain the lining. So my suspicion is that you might be lower in estrogen (this is relatively common among people with low weight, esp. amongst runners) and so I really do want to see you maintain a good level of fat intake.

Vitex is one of those things where there really is no "normal". It can work miracles for some people and then screw up other people's cycles royally (there are many many reasons why cycles can be weird so it's no wonder really that an herb can affect different people differently - rather like prescribing an antibiotic, if you have a bacterial infection it's curative, if it's a fungal infection it can make matters much worse). Vitex can lower estrogen so I am concerned that your taking it would be like adding fuel to a fire and make things worse.

My recommendation for fixing the spotting would be Red Rasp. Leaf Tea drunk in the AF- 2 days before O pattern to see if that helps. Now, I do think that RRLT sways blue when drunk that way but if you're too low in estrogen, you're going to have trouble conceiving anyway so it may be something to try (along WITH upping, or at the least maintaining, fat intake.)

Thank you! Will take this all into consideration. I am thinking if I don't conceive within first couple cycles I will try the RRLT out, especially if I am still spotting. This has really just started happening the past few months and I hope it is my body just "adjusting" to not running 50+ miles per week. I am running 3 miles a week or even less now.

    Welcome and goodluck!
I just wanted to ask a quick vitex question since you are on the subject of it and wasn't sure where to put it as it is not about swaying. My 23 year old Sister has always had irregular periods and hasn't had one in over a year. She is not over weight and eats quite healthy and has been to the doctors a few of times to try and sort it out but with no answers and many don't do much since she is not TTC. We are all scared she is going to have major fertility problems like our Mum (who had to adopt me to have her first child) if it isn't sorted sooner rather than later. She tried the pill but once she stopped it, cycles stopped too. I wondered if Vitex might work or if you know where I could look to find out more about taking vitex for that particular reason. Thanks
    DPs sons 21 +13 11 + our 6 4 year old identical twins!

I might actually be over my deep yearning for a and it's an exciting feeling
