I was enrolled in a study for one of these blood tests when I was pregnant with DD a few years ago. They were trying to assess the accuracy when patients were on certain types of medications made from human and/or animal-derived ingredients, in my case Lovenox, which is made from the intestinal mucus of pigs. They did two different blood draws for it and wouldn't you know, one said I was having a boy and one said I was having a girl. Either my tests fell into the standard lab error range or my medication did affect the results. I have not heard any more about this study since my doctor put me in it, so I don't know if it's been completed or not.

Happened to me at 20 weeks when I had my ultrasound and to everyone's surprise it was a girl even though maternity 21 said definitely boy at 11 weeks! Shock and confusion ensued...even my doctor was "baffled" with the results and after speaking to genetic counsellors, told me that two can be the possible cases: 1st: I had a vanishing twin and second amniotic sack which although did not grow was still showing in my ultrasound at 10 weeks so maybe it was a boy thus that was what blood test picked up or 2nd : my baby girl could have Turners syndrome!! Of course I am one of these people who can go crazy by not knowing, so immediately I had an amino and second extensive ultrasound at a specialist fetal medicine center only to find out my girl is perfectly healthy and was told I should have never done the maternity 21 when I had a vanishing twin in me as the results would very likely be inaccurate! Was very annoyed with my doctor, if I knew I would not even have bothered with the naterni21 and would have gone straight to amnio testing...i have finally calmed down and can now enjoy my pregnancy!

I'm so sorry that this happened to you! I can understand how upset and frustrated you are, especially when you weren't fully informed about the tests limitations given your situation. This is why I will not be doing any NIPT testing, because I too may have a vanishing twin. I will know for sure at my NT scan in 2.5 weeks.
I'm glad that everything is ok with your baby! Hopefully you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy now!

I suspect this is what the end of the story was in EVERY one of these threads, even the ones that did not update.
Some of the techs are simply not that good, others may be great but are having an off day, weird things happen. Anyone who stumbles onto this thread, PLEASE go off blood tests and NOT ultrasounds.Last edited by atomic sagebrush; March 8th, 2017 at 02:35 PM.

I'm so sorry Kathy, yes, that was a mistake on the part of the doctor and not the Materniti21 test being wrong though (just to clarify for anyone who is confused right now). If the vanishing twin was a boy then that could def. mess with the results.
I'm so sorry for the hullabaloo but huge congrats on your healthy baby girl!!!!!!! Questions?? Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

Hello Atomic, I didn't expect to report here again. But after 2.5 years and countless cycles of TTC, as well as 3 inseminations and 2 ICSI, I unexpectedly had a BFP a few weeks ago. I'm in the...
