dysgeusia/ really bad taste in mouth
I'm 7 weeks pregnant and what happened with my first pregnancy is happening again during my second pregnancy. I honestly never thought I would get this weird bitter taste for a second time.
The bitter taste lasted through my first pregnancy and up until my son was 2-3 weeks old.
The thought of having to go through this and having it last so long is putting a large negative psychological on me.
The taste is constantly there and it's not an oral hygiene problem. Brushing my teeth and tongue actually makes it worse. I've tried chewing different flavored gum and it doesn't help.
The only thing that helps a bit is lemons.
Depending on what I eat the taste goes away for a short period of time and comes back stronger after eating. I have no desire to eat and have lost complete interest in food.
I doubt this is hurt burn but I've ordered some tums and will experiment soon but was hoping to find someone who can relate to this and help me cope with it.
Please let me know if you experienced this and how you got it to go away even if it's temporary.

I found gargling with a baking soda/ water mix would help for an hr or so. I read it just has to do with an acidity imbalance or something similar. I would put a tablespoon of baking soda in a glass of water and then throughout the day swish some in my mouth. It helped and now I have it less often. I'm hoping it doesn't last the whole pregnancy!
Enjoying life with my crazy little DS1 2010: and DS2 2012:

I had this same problem in this pregnancy too. I went in and they determined I have acid reflux, which is different from heartburn. This is actually an indicator for having acid reflux. I'm now taking Zantac twice a day and it's gone!!! Sometimes it comes back an hour or two before I have to take my next dose but it is much more tolerable than before!
I hope you get relief- it SUCKS!!!
DS1🏼, DS2, DS3 Jan. '16 I'll sway for a DD for my DH!!

Yep I had it with my last two pregnancies and it's not oral hygeine, it's an actual pregnancy symptom that many experience. I agree brushing made it worse for me too. It's almost a metallic taste. Both acidic and alkaline stuff is supposed to make it go away. I felt like sour candy helped me. Mine went away after the first trimester.
Pine nuts can cause a weird bitterness for some people that lasts a few days after eating them. It's not a cure for the taste, unfortunately this is pregnancy related and not unusual, I hope it goes away soon.!!! Questions?? Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

Yes. Pine nuts messed me up once for days! I wonder if there is another but or food that triggers it like that.

Supposedly if they are American pine nuts they can't cause the bitterness. It's Asian pine nuts that can trigger it. They don't know why it happens but it does't seem to be harmful.
(my son is deathly allergic to pine nuts so I had to learn more about them than I really ever wanted to know o.O)!!! Questions?? Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

Lemon drops or sour jolly ranchers. I'm sure there are more I just don't really like sour stuff so I don't know of many of them.
