I just want to let everyone know that studies have been done recently that indicate doctors are not always using due diligence when telling people a pregnancy will not work out. This is a prime example. An ultrasound can be wrong, even bloodwork can be misleading. There have been terminations scheduled after only ONE ultrasound that turned out to be healthy pregnancies so please always err on the side of caution even when a doctor is telling you otherwise. There is no harm in continuing along a few more days or a week to see what is happening and having further testing done.

No matter what happens now in this pregnancy, please rememeber this IF you or anyone you know are told at 6 or even 7 full weeks of pregnancy that there is nothing there, or IF they are dated back for 2 weeks.

Zoey if you google misdiagnosed miscarriages there is a whole site about women who were effectively told they were miscarrying and actually had healthy babies. It is something that concerns me about countries routinely giving early scans without due cause, it seems to happen a lot where people are told not viable and actually there babies are fine.

Yay, so excited for you!!!! When I had my miscarriage I did a lot of research and I definitely read in multiple places that a heartbeat is often not seen until 7 weeks. If one isn't seen before 7 weeks, another ultrasound should always be done at the 7 week mark to check. It's only when the heartbeat isn't seen after 7 weeks 4 days that it's thought the pregnancy is for sure not viable.
Me: 35 years old. Was an infant nanny and birth and postpartum doula. Now a full time SAHM.
DS1: Aug 2003 (my first home birthed water baby!)
DS2: May 2009 (my second home birthed water baby!)
Oct 2014
July 2016: Laproscopic surgery to remove a ping pong ball sized endometrioma on left ovary and 3 pea size fibroids on outside of uterus. Hysteroscopy to remove one larger "penetrating fibroid" inside uterus.
Oct 2016: Heartbroken after DH's vasectomy. Looks like my dreams of a daughter are gone.

Also interestingly enough Zoey, it says on that site that the UK's new guidelines are to wait 9 weeks, if the sac is growing, to diagnose a blighted ovum. Which means that even at 8 weeks the sac can seem empty and then a baby can appear at 9 weeks (which happened to the site owner and is told in her story). She also had a tilted uterus which apparently can make it more difficult to see the baby in the sac.
