Pregnancy of unknown location
Hi everyone,
I'm roughly about 4 weeks 2 days pregnant, my last AF was on 22nd November. I found out I was pregnant with a clear blue on 14th December.
A few days after the BFP, I started getting cramps which started in the middle of my stomach and back. The cramps come and go throughout the day. I've had no bleeding.
As a result, I had my hCG levels done on 16th and they were 80 and then they more than doubled to 200 48 hours later on 18th.
I contacted the EPU again today as I started with shoulder pain on my left shoulder blade which is like a burning ache and the pains were in my lower abdomen. They've done an examination and I was tender.
Today, my hCG levels have increased from 200 on 18th to 700. Because I didn't have one on 20th, I'm not sure whether it doubled. They did a transvaginal scan today and said they couldn't find anything not even a sac. They have diagnosed me with pregnancy with unknown location and said that it could be a normal pregnancy, miscarriage or ectopic. Ive got repeat bloods in 2 days time.
I cant help but worry especially with not being able to find anything on the scan today. Is this normal at around 4 weeks not to see the sac? Is it also a good sign my hCG levels are increasing?
Thank you x

It is too soon for them to be able to see anything reliably. (they really should have explained this to you.) It can reliably be seen at 5 weeks gestation.
While it is possible to have a tubal pregnancy, I get this question literally all the time and it is only the case in a very few people. For now, you're in good hands, getting care, and I would try not to worry. You'll have time enough to worry if something is truly wrong.
I'm that all is well and you'll get some confirmation that everything is ok soon.

I’ve spotted in both my healthy pregnancies and in pregnancies that led to a miscarriage. Spotting and cramping is so common. Praying everything is ok!

Thank you for the reassurance, I'm sorry for your past miscarriages. I hope that everything is going well in this pregnancy for you and that you have a safe delivery in January

Just had my results back my hCG levels are 1747 so its a massive increase from the last one done 48 hours ago. Got a scan on 29th and I'll be around 5 weeks 2 days then so hopefully I'll be able to see something that will put my mind at ease x
