sorry another timing question

ugh, i know this has been asked a million times.

i typically O on cd 17 but its sometimes in the morning sometimes at night. (who really knows for sure).

dh took thursday (cd17) off so that wednesday (cd16) we can attempt. he says he doesnt mind doing it twice (once on both cd 16 and cd17)but i mind. i want to do it only once and as close to O as possible. should i just grit my teeth and do it once on cd16? but then what if i dont O till late cd17? isnt that too far?

should i do both cd16 and cd17, but what if sperm count drops the 2nd time?

ugh..i keep going back adn forth.

my OPK this afternoon (cd15) was negative. should i test again this evening?

You could go the morning of CD 16 and then wait 36 hrs and go CD 17 at night time, aLTHOUGH if you do ovulate the morning of cd 17 you may then risk and O+12...

I would prob be more inclined to go for the day before ovulation, do you use opks?

Gizmo i think you would be safe to dtd on the 16th & 17th, you dont want to miss your chance & thats close enough, its not like your dtd 4-5 days ealier, i think you would still be safe for your attempt for a boy.
I also will be dtd 1 day before O, on O & also a day aftet O.

arent you worried about O+12 tho? or decreasing sperm count by doing it every day?

okay i just got my 1st positive OPK today around 2pm.
i did some research and some say you O around 8-48 hrs after 1st positive opk, the opk manual says 24-36hrs after 1st positive OPK, and some info on here or justmommies or IG says to DTD 12 hours after the 1st OPK.

my options are to DTD tonight (8 hrs after my 1st positive) or tomorrow afternoon (around 24 hrs after my 1st positive).

which one would you guys do and why????? i cant decide!! why am i so caught up with this?

FWIW, I chose to DTD once as close to O as possible for my pink sway! I don't think it matters when you DTD in relation to O but I think the amount of sperm do - and I only wanted to DTD once to keep sperm count low. If you do it twice (more even!) then your sperm count is going to be higher, even if what you add on your subsequent attempt/s isn't as much as what you got on your first attempt. I hope that makes sense! I also don't think you need to worry about an O+12 if there are plenty of sperm on the scene already when you ovulate because those are the ones which will capacitate and make it to the egg first.

zan, i hear what youre saying. but i guess im afraid of the girl sperm pushing back the guys perm if i do it 2wice in a row but what youre saying makes sense. why are you doing it so close to O for girl?

i guess anyone can look at it differently.

what im worried about is the last time i tested was yesterday (cd15) at 8pm. and then today cd16 at 2pm. so im worried i could have had a surge anywhere from last night after 8pm till today at 2pm. and so say i surged at 9am this morning (but didnt test) that would make me more comfy to DTD tonite bc it will have been at least 12 hrs since 1st opk.

another thing does any one know what hormone it is that creates the DIP in charting BBT (i know that progesterone causes the spike AFTER you O, and i know that LH is the last hormone to surge prior to O). so is it LH that causes teh dip or what/?

so far im thinking of just doing it tomorrow (cd17) afternoon when the kids "nap." hope we dont get interupted.

but debating to add on a DTD tonite as well or not..?

just to let you know, my 2 friends who got pg the same day. one with boy one with girl, the one with boy DTD 3xs in one day and the one with girl just once. figures. the one with the boy did some swaying attempts just ate healthier and ACV.

Well I am going for a OHW I think... but it is all personal reference. Some ladies go once and others go 1-2-3 times !!

gizmo-if you want to do only 1 time go tonight but if you would try twice then go tomorrow again.Don't think about it so much because there is no recipe to make a boy you know! Drink some acv if that makes you feel better lol. I do it too:bigsmile:

I don't think timing in relation to O matters and because so many of the things we do to sway for a girl reduce the odds of pregnancy because we're aiming to have as few sperm up there as possible but still get pregnant I wanted to time our one attempt for the greatest chance of actually getting pregnant! I don't think if I'd done what we did a few days before O I would have got pregnant :D

Remember tho, for frequent release to work people have to do it every day once at least and sometimes more for 7-10 days. Doing it 2 days in a row just isn't going to reduce the numbers, esp since you are doing so many other things to sway and raise sperm count and survival (more EWCM).

I totally agree, esp. since you are doing so many things to make your repro tract sperm-friendly. So even if (and that is a huge if) his numbers were slightly reduced by DTD two days in a row, all the other things you are doing to increase CM and raise pH is going to maximize survival rates so much that it will overcome that slight decline (if it even happens, which it probably won't) Plus, the semen from the first batch will increase pH and also help more of the sperm of the second batch survive.

Also, I would never worry about O+12 because with two BD, if you did O late and risk an O+12, the odds are that the sperm from the first batch already did the deed by that point. God knows it's next to impossible to get pg from O+12 when people are TRYING to, let alone by accident. Most eggs are either dead or fertilized that long after ovulation.

The girl sperm don't push back the guy sperm or vice versa. Sperm have no way of knowing how many times you DTD in a row. They're just in there trying to find the egg, that's their entire reason for being.

People are DTD very close to O now for TTC pink because there are so many studies that show there is no connection to timing at all. About the same numbers of boys and girls are conceived throughout the cycle.

The reason why the temp dips is because your body releases a little burst of a very potent form of estrogen to trigger the surge when it has enough estrogen to get the job done.

I understand why you're worried and I wish I knew the magic words to put your mind at ease. Just know that the best studies show there is nothing to timing and heaven knows we all have enough Shettles opposites between us to totally debunk the idea!!

I know this is an older thread but I am just wondering what you ended up doing in the end.

thx everyone! i ended up doing it on cd17 during the day (1pm) when the kids napped. i think it was perfect as far as timing. bc i was just starting to have O pains on and off about an hr before we did it. then after we did it, the o pains lasted till about 8pm (they usually last about 7-8 hrs). so im assuming i O'd sometime after 8pm. i guess i would have been ok to DTD that night but overall im glad i didnt risk it. who knows exactly WHEN you ovulate (esply if you have O pains preceding this event).??

the only thing im worrie dabout NOW is that i didnt lay down long enough (sinc eit was during the day). i laid down for 20 min and wasnt oozing semen when he pulled out (sorry tmi). so i think he got in deep enough. but when i went to the bathroom after the 20 min, of course some semen leaked. hopefully the wigglies that counted got up in there during the 20 min.
if not im fine with next month attempt too.

overall im happy with the timing. geez i did worry a lot didnt i? i probably will next month too if it doesnt happen thsi time! ;-) thanks for being there guys!

I read it in some study I guess (can't find it) that semen need max 30 min to swim up in to the tubes. So Im sure that 20 min was a good time to wait.They are up there!

20 minutes is totally plenty of time. From what I've read the sperm flee the scene to head to the safety of the crypts as quickly as they possibly can.

Remember, just because there's semen, doesn't mean there's any sperm in it!!!
