    DH sport activity

My DH is mountain biking for a week in AZ this month. How long of a recovery does he need before we TTC for a boy? Would 3 weeks be long enough? Also, would the same advice apply for kiteboarding? He is kiteboarding for a week in March. (He wears a wetsuit or tight fitting shorts in ocean water...)

As far as my own exercise goes, I'm a pilates instructor - would you consider this cardio or weights and how often would you recommend I exercise? I have already gained 5 pounds from being on the HE diet 6+ weeks so not really wanting to gain more.

One last question not really related to sports... As soon as I get a positive OPK result, do you recommend TTC right away or should we wait 1/2 day or a full day? I know you recommended morning BD but that is oftentimes impossible with work schedules and early-rising daughter!

Update - we may be able to try before he bikes... however, I'm also a bit concerned because my DH was moving things in my studio and pulled a muscle so he is taking dicclofenac sodium 2x day - a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug for the pain (I think just large does of ibuprofen). Should that push our timeline back of TTC blue? It seems like when one thing comes up - everything does! Sorry for the many questions!

Thank you so much! I've enjoyed searching and reading through your advice so much in the past few months!

Under ideal circumstances, as long as is feasible because sperm take 72 days to form and any type of harmful activity may affect the sperm that are forming, not just hte ones that are coming out right away. but, in real world, do what you can do and try when it is right for you and your family, because it's ALWAYS something.

It depends on if it's building muscle or not. I recommend 4-5 days a week, 45 min a day to put the hold on weight gain.

TTC RIGHT AWAY with pos OPK (by that I mean that night, no need to come rushing home from work.) If you can be in with another attempt or two within 36 hours, great, if not, you can't.

LIke I said, it's always something - if the spirit is moving you to try, I would try! There are no dealbreakers and if you're alreayd on HE Diet for awhile and feel good about it, I wouldn't let a little ibuprofen stop me. But it's your sway, and you need to do what you feel comfortable with, because you'll need to live with the results.

Thanks, Atomic! Does anyone else on the forum have a biking husband? Did your DH stop biking when TTC? Has anyone conceived a boy with a biking DH?

You can ALWAYS get a boy or a girl regardless. That having been said, unlike many things people do for swaying which are speculative or based on Old Wives' Tales, biking for DH has actually been shown in a study to alter the gender ratio towards girls (I have that posted somewhere on here but it's not coming up in a Google search, does anyone know where it is offhand?) so I take that a little more seriously than I do some of the things that have not been as well proven. )

I have a biking hubby! So far we have two girls. Lol. Although both from his pre-biking days! That said, I have just suffered a miscarriage and was really really sure it was a boy (just felt so different from my girls). I also have a friend whose hubby is a very keen biker and they have two boys! So there is hope! My DH tries to reduce biking for a couple of weeks before attempt each month (he would normally be cycling in and out of work each day, about 10 miles each way) and when he does have to cycle he tries to stay standing up... I wish he would stop totally but we only have one car so when I need it he has to get to work somehow!

My hubby does triathlons. So was on the bike very regular. But he finished his last one a month before DS was conceived and was easing back for the winter but would still cycle twice a week and run another 2 days.

My husband bikes for an hour every other day and runs for an hour on the in-between days. We have two girls from before his exercising days, when he was overweight, and we got a boy while he was biking almost daily. This pregnancy is another girl.

srg09cag11 - Did you sway for a girl this time around? Likewise, were you trying for a boy when you had your boy?

Thank you ladies for all of your replies. My husband thinks we should possibly wait a few months until he is out of his "biking season"...I'm not sure at this point with the 72 days it takes to make new sperm is worth the wait though bc even after he stops it won't be "fresh" for quite some time .... We had a miscarriage at 5 weeks a few weeks ago so am waiting this cycle out but being 35 I'm feeling very ready to try again soon....
