I've started having more but not intentionally. I've had days where I need to have some extra protein because I've been low but I can't have any more sodium. I quite enjoy a glass of milk actually! I often have some dairylea light and a yogurt too but I don't have all those things on one day because it adds up to too much protein. As you know, I'm not taking calcium supplements.

I usually choose between having one yogurt or one glass of milk a day. They're both so darn high in protein that if I have both it means I can't have parmesan on my pasta...and I just can't eat pasta without parm. I thought I was clever and bought some rice milk, and only after suffering through a glass of the stuff (it tasted awful to me), I noticed that the particular brand I got had NO calcium! So be careful to read the nutritional info before you buy!

An adult 19-30 needs 1000mg a day of calcium... I am taking 2,000mg in pills but I will be increasing it with my next AF (when we plan TTC).

Yeah...I hear you on the protein...Even on a vegetarian diet (or even Vegan diet), I still find it hard to stay below 40g. I don't really like the taste of rice milk either but I drink it if I'm going to drink any kind of milk. The kind I buy has only 45 cals, 2 g of fat, 6 g of fiber (YAY!) and 20% of your daily alloted intake of calcium. BAD part is that one cup has 135 mg of sodium so I have to make sure it'll work w/the rest of my diet for the day. It can get tricky.

Is that too much? Now you all have me wondering!
If that is working for you, carry on but just make sure that you're getting 40-50 g of protein a day.

I drink it all the time and I think it's a great source of carb calories with very little protein.

Of anything, I think the sodium is the least important so if you need to fudge on the sodium because you're drinking a glass of milk and are worried about sodium, don't.

Hmmm...my rice milk has only 90 mg of sodium so you may be able to find a different rice milk if need be.

If I had my sway to do again, I would leave out non-vegetable sources of calcium, but that is up to each individual person.
