I would do lots of water, take a fiber supplement (I do Metamucil twice a day before meals), and any fruit will be good. If you don't like much fruit, you can mix 1 cup of frozen mixed berries with 1/2 cup of vanilla yogurt. This can help get fruit in and still be girl diet friendly. An apple a day is good too, with the skin. I have mine with a tablespoon of almond butter, to make it go down easier. If you don't like, or are not used to plain water, you can cut up two lemons and place in a pitcher of water. This will flavor the water for you and may make it easier to drink. Plus, it will help with the constipation too! I have used an orange and 2 limes as well, and it makes the water very tasty!

I think if you incorporate these changes, you'll notice a difference!

Fiber: ground psyllium husks (mix 3-4 teaspoons with enough water to make a thick slurry, drink before each meal so 2-3x daily), wholegrain rye bread, wholemeal bread/pasta etc generally, apples, pears, clementines, raspberries, blackberries, leafy green veg, broccoli, brussel sprouts, artichokes, yogurt with inulin, watermelon in summer (great for fluid, too)

Fluids: I also don't drink enough water (don't like how it tastes), but if you don't mind diet drinks or herbal tea, those will work also. Very lightly sweetened sparkling water is my preferred beverage, and such drinks are in fashion right now. Or you can dilute lemonade or juice with sparkling water. Even drinking hot broth made from bouillon powder/****s. Just any way you can up your fluid intake. Skim milk is good as part of your totals, I have way more than necessary with my non fortified cereal to sneak in extra water.

Supps: colace is the only thing I find safe and effective to take every day long term while TTC. I take 50mg morning and night. Sometimes I increase it to 3x daily but then I run the risk of having explosive diarrhea so it's a fine line. Magnesium citrate is fine for pink and supposedly helpful for constipation but it doesn't seem to do anything for me no matter how much I take (I think I've taken a max of 5 teaspoons in a glass of water at a time).

I consider the matter under control if I go at least twice a week and don't see blood. In my case the constipation is mostly caused by being on high dose strong opiates constantly, and my dose fluctuates quite a bit, which means the effect on my bowels does, too. Eating less, eating lowfat, and eating less frequently & not snacking make the situation worse as well, unfortunately.

Oh and exercise, even just walking a bit daily, really helps tremendously. Especially the serious 60+ min of cardio. I've never had problems when running or walking long distance daily.

Don't forget to ease into the fiber supplement. I experienced some of the worst cramping ever from gas when I started off with the higher doses! Hope you get better quick!!

Good point Queen. Same with the colace or any laxative, they must be gradually introduced starting from smallest recommended dose. Wait 3 days before increasing the dose, otherwise you create a very painful scenario in which you have rock hard feces blocking the exit with a bunch of softer or liquid feces + gas applying pressure. It can't get out so it pushes in all directions against your intenstines. You can even have hard rocks mixed in with explosive diarrhea which is horrible as well as painful. TMI perhaps but it happens whenever I'm not patient enough and increase my colace impulsively.

Drinking more water and exercising won't cause the aforementioned issues but require more effort/motivation.

DO NOT start fiber now. that will be throwing gasoline on a fire. Taking a laxative and having nothing happen is serious and may need medical attention especially if you're having such severe pain, so don't "poopoo" it LOL Fiber can help over time, but right now the last thing you need is more bulk on top of what's already in there.

If you took two laxatives and nothing happened I think you need medical attention. It says it right on the box of the laxatives. I obviously can't make you do this and so one thing that has helped me in the past is Alo brand Aloe drink, it works really well after having a baby. Another thing some people have found to help is to (wearing rubber gloves) actually use your finger to clear out the blockage and get things going, but you can hurt yourself doing this if you really are impacted.

Right now you need to not worry about your sway and get this taken care of, if they help you, then yes use them.
