Confused How do you get early gender results like MaterniT?

Just wondering for future reference how people get early gender results bloodwork like MaterniT. That has never been offered to me by any OB. Last time I was pregnant, it was hellish waiting for 2 months for my NT scan, and even then they wouldn't give me a clear guess. I don't want to go through that again. I'm in no way planning on becoming pregnant anytime soon, but I've always wondered this. Do you have to specially request it? Can they refuse to do it?

If you pay for the test, the results, all of them which do include gender, are yours. If you are in the US, you will absolutely be told gender if you ask.

Thanks! Do you just ask your OB to perform the test? (Is it a blood test?)
How early on is it usually offered?

It's pretty new so not all the docs have gotten the message about them yet.

Under Obamacare I'm not sure if this is the case any more but you used to be able to actually call the lab itself to have some bloodwork done without a doctor's request.

With my pregnancy that ended in miscarriage in Sept., my OB's office didn't do it for people under 35 at all, they said it was hard to get insurances to cover it. (My MFM was going to order it for me though b/c I'm high risk albeit not really for genetic issues.) With my current pregnancy, my OB's office ordered it for me and actually recommended I do it (because I'm high risk, I think, but maybe they are for everyone now?)

Labcorp just came out with their own version of the tests several months ago (Aug. I think) called InformaSeq or something like that, which I suspect will make it even easier/common for ob's to order it.
