XX, yes I did scoop poop when I was a young teenager (11-13 years old) and I'm pretty sure I didn't wash my hands afterwards. My parents weren't very good at teaching us hand washing, they both grew up dirty on farms, I guess they thought dirt would make us stronger! I also grew up in a third world country, making the chances higher, I owned several cats in the third world, AND I changed cat litter with bad hand hygiene. I mean, it's a parasite that never leaves your body, so gross!

I am not upset with you at all Bura. I was thinking you were upset with me. I know it can be a touchy subject. I volunteer my time for a nonprofit group (ICAN) to help educate and inform women and partners on their birth options, avoiding unnecessary cesareans and promoting VBACs. It's just something I'm passionate about. I do hope it all goes well for you and that this is your healing birth!

Xx and claire - i too had lots of cats growing up. My mom had a cat that was indoor and outdoor when i was very little that was always having kittens... I had two cats grow with me in childhood after that and a pair of outdoor only cats that i owned before i got pregnant with my first baby... A part of me is convinced im probably already immune but you know how it is im paranoid anyhow... Its less the box itself im worried about and more about what happens if the kitten drags poop around on his paw. DH says he was told kitten is 8 weeks but im thinkin its 6 weeks... He is very very tiny. Oh my gosh to the still born stuff... What i was reading and what i was told is after the first trimester risk is less to an unborn baby but death sure as hell doesnt sound like less risk..
This is hard for me because i am a huge cat person and im torn between loving this kitten and fearing for the babys health jeezLast edited by Burakoam; June 11th, 2015 at 10:56 AM.

I did have my scan the other day but have been busy with work.
We have a confirmed GIRL! It was fun sharing it with the family, they are very excited. My sister knew how badly I wanted a girl so she was very teary eyed and cried when kids popped the confetti balloon! It's fun telling people now that it's official. Still can't believe it. Probably won't sink in until she's here or at least until we start filling her room with the opposite of everything else I have for the boys.
Hope all of you gals are feeling well and having healthy pregnancies!EmJ

Okay i was very misinformed the risk is greater as pregnancy progesses. Awesome. Excuse me while i have an anxiety attack. Great. Is there a way to test the kitten to see if its a carrier? Equally importantly, can my dr test me for immunity? If im immune can baby still get it?

Getting rid of the kitten isnt an option. Im just not capable... My husband meant well. And i cant break his heart. I think i am going to go insane and absolutely insist he takes care of the cat box completely. Avoiding the kitten is another issue because he is already very interested in me... Ill have to become crazy religious about washing my hands whenever i have touched him or hes touched me and keep him out of the bedroom

Just a quick thread crash...bura- we have 2 cats and my DH is the one who cleans the litter tray as they are his pets. I would advise your OH to do the same especially as he was the one who brought it home
