I don't think we are going to attempt tonight. I just can't get over the idea that conceiving on O day sways blue... It's only or first proper ttc month and I think I'd be freaking out for nine months if we gt pregnant this month... Or am I being stupid?? Has there actually been a study done into DtD on a certain day and the baby's gender? I guess there must've been....

Yes there have been numerous studies showing timing DOESN'T sway, that there are NO differencs between X and Y sperm in either speed or longevity. The idea stems from one man who MADE IT UP, it was never based on sny proof, but it was spread so widely that now everyone believes. Well, many. There are lots of myths like that too. But it's 100%, I would bet my life on it and all humanity's life on it bullshit!
It doesn't even make sense logically, neither X nor Y could have such dramatically different traits as it would skew the gender ratio too much. Also, sperm are produced via mieiosis. So one cell with 46 chromosomes including both an X and Y gets split into 2 sperm cells each with 22 chromosomes and and X or Y. Other than the exact genetic info they carry, they are IDENTICAL bc of how meiosis cell division works. They CAN'T have different traits like speed/longevity.
My Ovulation Chart currently TTC, Cycle #16 since last BFP
TTC #1- swaying pink on & off since Nov 2013 - hoping for a girl first but excited for either!
Dec 2001 - May 2006 : 5 early abortions of healthy singletons (3 medical @5w, 2 surgical @8w, last 4 pregnancies conceived with late DH, all conceived while TTA/on birth control)
Mar 2012: miscarried B/G twins @5w (conceived 2 cycles after remověng Paraguard copper IUD while NTNP), one twin was ovarian ectopic
Me: 34, widowed, late O + short LP, normal-good hormone levels excepting undetectable testosterone, seeking a known sperm donor/life partner
My sway: vegetarian LE for over 28w, skipping breakfast, fibre (ground psyllium husks) with/before/between meals, physically inactive, drama avoidance, ocassional minimal YesBaby lube as needed, alternate cycles on low dose Clomid, double shot lattes (with meals)
Past sway tactics I've dropped (in order): Vitex, Sudafed, antihistamines, intermittent fasting, one attempt per cycle at positive OPK, one attempt in fertile period

Sorry to gatecrash, but that's a great read that you wrote in your last comment Maiden.
If there is no difference whatsoever, how come frequency sways? Why does a bigger volume of sperm give advantage to the boys if they are both the same? X

No one knows. We can speculate but I find that the more we speculate, the more people focus on speculation instead of just doing what actually works.
Frequency has not been very effective anyway. Much more effective is the one attempt and we honestly do not even KNOW if more sperm even realy truly = more boys!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

We don't know why multiple attempts sways blue, but I have some ideas. One is that women's bodies respond to unprotected BD, to chemicals in semen. This can cause increased EWCM and may also affect the protein markers on the outside of eggs, which can then preferentially allow Y vs X sperm entry. Atomic has a theory that the number of sperm present in a woman's reproductive tract may affect intra-sperm signalling in some way that sways. Probably there are multiple effects. Unfortunately it would be very difficult if not impossible to study in vivo and there's just not enough money in swaying, and it isn't a serious health matter, so it's not studied much. Ultimately the details don't matter, only what works. We KNOW that number of attempts is swaying significantly and timing isn't at all.
Also, while I do think number of attempts sways, I think diet, exercise and other factors which strongly impact maternal condition have a MUCH stronger effect on swaying. Which makes sense, as that enables women's bodies to respond to environmental cues by conceiving the most evolutionarily successful gender offspring.Last edited by maidentomother; March 11th, 2016 at 04:13 AM.

yes guys please try to keep in mind that while we get good results with one attempt, that is ALWAYS one attempt PLUS diet, exercise, and other stuff. it's not one attempt in a person doing everything in their power to sway blue - two different scenarios.
Another idea I find plausible is that maybe fewer sperm might make it just a tad easier for X to penetrate the eggshell and more sperm might make it just a tad easier for Y to penetrate the eggshell. It takes more than one sperm, and the actions of all of them weaken the eggshell. X sperm are just a teensy bit bigger (not massively bigger like Shettles claimed, but just a smidge) and it may be a sheerly mechanical thing - like a sharp pencil might be able to more easily go through a piece of thin paper, while a less sharp pencil might have a better chance going through cardboard if it could work at it a minute or two.
Agree totally that it is probably more than one thing and also would suspect it's possibly something we haven't even guessed at yet.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!
