That's so kind of your Mum, make the most of her generosity I say
Must be so exciting being able to get all the pink stuff after 4 boys

Mum has gone overboard with everything which has saved us a lot of money! I haven't come to terms with having a girl after 4 boys..I'm not letting myself get excited because I know US techs do make mistakes. I think a lot of this doubt is because of hubby. Whenever I show him something girly that I've bought he'll say "Well lets hope it's a girl then" or some other insensitive comment...makes me want to cry every time He still isn't convinced because that stupid stupid Intelligender pee test said boy. I still refer to baby as "it". I was hoping so badly that they'd be able to show him on the 3d US that is was definitely a girl so he could see for himself, but no, baby's feet were crossed right in the spot we needed to see and wouldn't budge! Just wish the next 10 weeks would speed up and be done with! Sick of feeling miserable all the time

Mummy, I am sorry you don't feel confident in baby being a girl. I have had 3 ultrasounds since the blood test showed girl and each time I hold my breath when they look for gender. All three have said girl so I am finally feeling confident.

We finished our birthing classes through the hospital, but they were very generic and not focus on a particular birth type (they covered natural, medicated and c-section). I am very set on doing a no pain med, all natural birth. Any other moms have suggestions on what to read or watch to help with techniques for achieving a natural birth?

Girls, I can I please ask about your opinion? I might book a 3D scan just for fun but wonder if there could be any risk to the baby? I have a friend who claims that ultra scans are not good for baby and should be avoided if possible. Do you think it is better not to take the scan?

I have had unmedicated vaginal births for all of my children. The best advice I can give you is practice various breathing techniques. With DS1, I ended up using the Lamaze breathing technique (it's just what worked for me at the time). With DS2, repetitive breathing helped me stay ahead of the pain. That is the key. To get your mind right, you have to stay ahead of the pain. If you allow yourself to feel the pain in the moment instead of rising above it, you will be so overwhelmed. Ride the pain like a wave- it will come on gradually, it will peak, then it lets up so you can have a break. Use the time between contractions to calm your mind, regroup, and rest a bit. Keep breathing though. I always find breathing deeply in between contractions helps me. I also squeeze my DH's hand during the peak of the contraction. It helps me to release the pain and not hold onto it. Plus, it makes my DH feel like he's helping me (he is in a big way!). I always bring a stress ball to squeeze in case he needed a break, but he never does. I never found distractions like music helped me. I don't like to be distracted- I like to be in the moment- this helps me deal with the pain better.

You got this! FX and GL to you!!

Oh, and different positions helped. With DS2 I had horrendous back labor because he was facing the wrong way. My OB had me go onto all fours and that helped SO much! I knew when he twisted the right way because the pain was SO much more manageable!

With DS3, I needed to walk around. My OB let me pace in the room until I needed to push. I walked the entire time, breathing, and squeezing DH's hand!

I have had 5 ultrasounds so far and have a 3D one in a few weeks. I don't see anything wrong with them, but that is me.

Thanks XX. I think I am not a distraction type either, but more a focus and rise above so your advise was awesome!! I am going to research and work on breathing techniques. We went over some in my class but I need more practice and options.

You're welcome! Definitely practice a few, because those that may seem silly now but may be just what works later. That's how I felt about the Lamaze breathing. I thought at the time there was no way I would choose that one, but that was the only one that helped me with the hard and fast labor with my DS1.

I had 'Ina Mays : guide to childbirth" recommended to me on here.
It's incredible, and fills me with confidence that I can have an unmedicated birth.
    Would highly recommend it !
