Great point about the Firm videos - I know there are several of them and I did like the ones I had (got at Goodwill!) becasue it was cardio and strength together and saved me a lot of time (I used to be so badass, just thinking about it is depressing LOL). But totally possible that not all of them are as good, I have a couple TaeBo's that i don't like as well as some others as well.
A great site to see reviews of videos is Exercise, Workout and Fitness videos & DVDs
Fencing is really fun, the big boys and I did it for awhile and then as kids do, they got bored with it and I was having to make them go, so we dropped it. I believe we quit going in April before I conceived DS 3 in June!!!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

Another question: how much dumbells should weight- 1kg, 2kg, 5kg? I'm sorry for stupid questions, but I really don't know a thing here. Exercising is so not me
Atomic, when you grab some time, can you check this Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred: Level 1 - YouTube
Like Cinns said, it's only (!!!!! ha! Feels like eternity )20 min, so would that be enough when done 4-5 times a week? Or it should be done twice a day ( please say no!)

Zivic, the proper weight really depends on the type of exercise and your personal abilities. What's right for me won't be right for you. If you're not sure it's a good idea to get a range of cheap dumbbells to start with, free weights are better than weight 'machines' at the gym anyways. At a minimum you should have a pair of 3lb, 5lb, 7-8lb, 10lb, 15lb, 20lb. That should cover you for most things including replacing barbells on legwork (though as you get fitter you probably will need to invest in a barbell if you want to do squats effectively).
Don't bother with the silly 1-2lb weights though, mine are only used by my toddler when he wants to exercise too! LOL!
30day Shred is supposed to be done daily with 1-2 rest days per week. Definitely not twice a day! But I'd be bored out of my mind only doing one video for a month, so if you're like me you should mix it up with other stuff. Jillian's NMTZ (No More Trouble Zones) is a decent circuit style workout too.Last edited by LacePrincess; November 12th, 2012 at 05:29 PM.

Lace- I want you for my personal trainer
Cinns- I think I'd start with 1kg (2.2lbs) in each arm, but as Lace said, I'll get 2kg (4.4lbs) dumbells as well, and if my sway gets long, God knows how far I'll getm/c 2001

And triceps!
Oh, and I'd forgotten that you were asking about weights specifically for the 30 Day Shred workout. Sorry, obviously you won't be doing tricep curls with 20lb dumbbells!!! LOL!
My rec was just a broad one for what you want to have to get started with general weight workouts. The sets I recc'ed will pretty much get you through beginner through advanced workouts by any of the previously mentioned dvd's on this thread - Cathe, Kelly Coffey-Meyer, The Firm, etc. But 30 Day Shred from what I recall is relatively light weights and high rep so yes you shouldn't need more than a pair of 7lb's max for that workout.
You might as well stock up though, that way you can do any number of dvd's!Me (38) and DH (38)

I use super light weights when doing cardio-style tapes (I often do Walk Away the Pounds with very light weights) like 1-2 lbs because when I use heavier ones I hurt myself.
I was never able to lift much more than 5 lbs (for biceps and triceps) even when I was super ripped. My joints wouldn't do it and I'd get hurt. I think it can make a difference with your body type. I am tiny on top and then have a bigggg butt and legs, so I can lift a lot with my legs and not as much with my arms.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!
