Mine will induce a week early for "routine" medical reasons (blood clotting conditions, gestational diabetes, mild high blood pressure) but wont induce until 40 weeks for "convenience reasons" (wanting baby to not be late). Obviously for medical reasons, they would induce at any point the baby was in danger. But generally, they won't take a baby on the mothers request.

I do agree that induction before 39 weeks should be considered "preterm." I had my first son at one day shy of 37 weeks, which most folks would consider pretty well baked...and he needed NICU time because his breathing was not developed and he had trouble maintaining his body temperature. My second was born two days after 37 weeks and he had some blood sugar issues because he was unable to regulate it himself. So he also was given special care after birth (although not official NICU care). I have obviously learned that "full term" is a really vague term. I would prefer for baby to come as close to my DD as possible. Although with two naturally occurring 37-weekers, I don't know how realistic it is to think ill go to term.

But I do understand your dilemma. Your sister sounds selfish and nasty. She can just throw her tantrum. Your mom is a big girl and can chose where she wants to be at any given time. And it sounds like she drew her line already. So I wouldn't even entertain altering my schedule because of my sisters so-called wedding date. She sounds like a real character.
