    Breastfeeding increases chances of twins?

I've read in several places that ttc while breastfeeding increases the chances of twins. I find this kind of ironic considering it seems harder for my body to ovulate while bf'ing in the first place. Can anyone explain to me why it ups the chances of twins?

There has been a study by Dr Steinman, which found that women who become pregnant while breastfeeding are nine times more likely to conceive twins than women who are not breastfeeding at the time of conception. You can read the scientific reasoning behind it if you google it, but from what I understand the general idea is that your body has to work harder to ovulate, making it more likely to release 2 eggs.

Yes, it's true, because even tho you may ovulate less often, it's more likely that you pop out more than one egg at a time. Same reason that Clomid can make you have twins - if you're a little low in estrogen (which can happen when BF) sometimes your body overcompensates and poops out a whole lot all at once, and going from not a lot of E to a whole bunch, if it happens at the right time in your cycle, can cause you to hyperovulate.

This worked for me but I lost one.

    I'm sorry for your loss

It's interesting the body is more likely to produce two eggs when breastfeeding. I guess it's the body's way of compensating for the less frequent ovulation. I thought for sure with DS it was twins because there have been 16 sets of twins (!!!) in my family. I'm not hoping for twins, but if that's the case, then we'll be happy.

There are many scientific reasons behind such a gesture. However, important conception behind such a gesture is that our body has to work hard for ovulation and during breastfeeding it increases the ovulation cycle, which release two eggs.Due to which twins chance's increases. Many professional physicians have to illustrate the same reason for having twins.
