Did your older children just KNOW that they were having a certain gender sibling? (Long)

My oldest son is three. About 6 months ago, he asked for a sister. So that lead to a lot of prayer which eventually led me here. I'm 6 weeks along now. We are Christians and prayer is a big part of our lives. My son has prayed for God to put AnaSofia (the name we picked) in my belly every night before we go to bed. Now he prays for God to keep AnaSofia safe in my belly. I've told him I'm pregnant but am very careful to tell him God may have chosen it give him a new precious brother. He lays his head on my belly and rubs it and talks to "her" about how much he loves her. I've never encouraged him to do that.

He's said things like: when AnanSofia's born, can we go buy PINK bottles and PINK pacis for her?

Tonight we were at the mall and he said "oh look a this beautiful dress. AnaSofia would love this dress. Can we buy it for her for when she's born?"

I'm very careful to let on how badly we hope for a daughters frankly, we'd be over the moon for another boy too.

But...do you think he KNOWS something I don't yet? I think children have this intuition that adults don't sometimes. Or do you think a 3 year old could want a certain gender sibling that badly?

I do think they can want a particular gender and I would not read too much into that. My "mommy instinct" worries that you need to put forth the idea that it may be a boy and that it will be just as fun, pick out a name, etc so he won't be too disappointed.

ps - my teenage son also really really really wanted a girl with my 3rd too. It was kinda hard telling him it was a boy.

My boys too talk about how much they want a sister...they assume I can just give it to them. When we tell them about the baby I will have to keep reminding them it could be another brother and that that is okay too.

Yes I'm guarding that. Our by name is Micah and I tell him it may be him and it'll be so awesome to have another brother. He just says, no it's not Micah! I remember a friend lost her baby and her son was laying on her belly and commented that the baby was gone when she hadn't told him yet. I just wonder about children and their intuition.
