    Healthy Sperm?

Hi- It has been a long time since my SO has released sperm. We haven't ttc yet but will in future. If we want to sway pink, should he release prior or wait until attempt? It has been a long time since he has. thank you.

For optimal sperm health, you want him to be releasing every 2-4 days. Too long of an abstain can hinder conception and *depending on his age* might be more likely to cause birth defects.

Thank you. If im set to O mid-next week, should I have him release tomorrow and again early next week? I am due around wed-fri.

I agree with has2gentleman, I would worry if DH wasn't releasing on his own!

How long is a long time?

I don't ever advise abstains of longer than 14 (and more like 7-10) days is better. Some people want to use this type of abstain for swaying and that is ok (although it hasn't worked very well for us) provided he is less than 35. Over 35, he needs to do either regular release every 2-4 days, or frequent release 7-10 days in a row before your attempt.

If he has been abstaining longer than 14 days, then YES I want you guys to do that. Get some fresh swimmers in the mix. If he's been doing abstain for a very long time then I would not try to use that as a sway tactic.

thank you for the responses. If abstain for a very long time, which tactic would you recommend?

He needs to be doing regular release every 2-4 days in that scenario. His sperm production is all but shut down and what is there will be less healthy, so we need to start "cleaning the pipes".

Have him do regular release and then have one attempt for your attempt.
