    Metformin

Hi girls, looking for a bit of advice. I have PCOS and have been prescribed metformin, I am also hoping to get clomid but not sure if I'll get it yet. Anyway, we are planning to start ttc in the summer and I wondered if I should start taking the met now or wait till nearer the time. I read a post on here that said it could sway pink due to declining maternal condition and I wondered if I start taking it too long beforehand if my body would get used to it and lose that effect? Any thoughts?

    TIA

Do you need it to regulate your cycle? I am not sure about swaying, but I was on it for 4 months before we got pregnant and we were TTC the whole time. My cycles were long before met but each month on met got shorter and shorter. I actually missed my pos OPK the month we conceived because I ovulated so early but thankfully we were doing the every 4 day method so I still caught the egg. I am convinced that without the metformin my cycles would have gotten longer and longer as I would only get 3-4 period a year when I was younger and not on birth control. That is why doc prescribed it only a few months after I got off birth control (I have pcos also). I am very thankful for the metformin. I should mention- I am having a girl!!

    Good luck.

I think it helps sway pink for pcos women as it helps control blood sugar, I'm not sure it declines maternal condition so much. It also helps adjust hormones that are out of whack so it is better for swaying pink as if you have pcos then your hormones sway more blue.

I would try starting it now as it does take time to start working. I was on it for over 6 months but it didn't get a chance to shorten my cycles as I had a miscarriage in that time and then went on clomid but it did make a difference pretty quickly to my hormones which were out of balance and causing mid cycle spotting.

The side effects can be unpleasant with met but I slowly worked my way up from 500mg to 1500mg a day and didn't find it too bad. If you have trouble you could stay on the amount you can tolorate until you ttc. Taking it with food is best, I only felt sick if I took it on anempty stomach.

Are you looking at the PCOS LE diet? That would be the recomended one for you.

Thanks ladies really appreciate your replies. I'll start taking it now then.
I've been reading up on the side affects and how a more low GI diet is reccommended which kind of fits in with the LE pcos diet? Did you change your diets?

Yeah I think some foods can make the side effects worse so low GI / PCOS LE is good to follow.

I made some changes like having brown rice instead of white etc. You may need to avoid foods like hot chips and other fatty greasy foods. It will just be a matter of wait and see.

I wasn't on the LE diet when I first started met so only thing I did was avoid greasy or high fat meals. I had tummy issues for a couple of days when I first started and then again when I increased doses, but all very manageable symptoms especially since I expected it. I took it at night and got the extended release version which is said to minimize the GI issues. I totally agree with purple on the balancing hormones. Birth control kept my hormones in line but getting off birth control my hormones were crazy and I hated how I felt. Once I got on the met I could very much tell a difference and I began to feel like my normal self again.

The "getting used to it" idea has not proven true (at least in the time frame we are talking about for swaying.)

Longer on diet has seemed more effective, not less. And while I do still think that someone who ahs been vegetarian since the age of 12 may "get used to it" that is over the course of decades, not months, or even a year or two.

Take the Met, get Clomid if you can. great sway, those two
