    Confused calcium fortified pasta ?

    anybody know what the difference is to normal pasta ? and where to get it from in the uk, if not what pasta are you ttc pink ladies eating ? x

    there is more calcium added, pretty much everything else--sodium, protein, calories--are the same. I have lots of brands here in the US, don't know about the UK... Ronzoni makes some....

    There is also the shirataki noodles, which are not fortified with anything but have no protein, fat, and cals.http://www.miraclenoodle.com/default.aspx and http://www.nooodle.com/

    You can always take a calcium supplement, but pasta is SUPER high in calories and protein and you may find it really hard to survive on any of the diets eating pasta every day, because one meal makes up a lot of your day's calories and protein and pasta with no sauce is just grotty. Personally, I think there are much better ways of getting calcium than cal-fortified pasta.

    I will post my pasta section from my girl cookbook in the Dream Members section (it's not totally complete, but nearly so) and you can read about some other options for noodles and recipes for sauces and stuff on the days you decide to enjoy some pasta.

    LMN - you can look up the nutrients of ingredients on websites such as www.fitday.com or http://caloriecount.about.com/ some people use those websites to log what they've eaten and let that do the calculations for you
    alternatively you can check the nutrition info on the back of a packet if you have it to hand

    a good idea is to find some meals that you like and will eat regularly, and then tot up the totals for that meal and write it down somewhere, then you can "budget" your nutrients for meals each day

    with rainbowflower! The only warning is that some of us have found the info on fitday, esp. regarding sodium, to be inaccurate. Like, they assume people are adding a lot of salt to things like rice, asparagus, etc, which are actually very low in sodium, but they come up high on fitday so people think they're getting way more sodium than they really are. So don't have a heart attack when you enter in something and it comes up high in sodium because it may not actually be.
