Why does IUI sway boy if timing doesn't sway? A close friend and her wife conceived a boy via IUI. The Dr said the clinic gets mostly boys from IUI and his theory was based on Shettles. They centrifuge the sperm so only the lightest ones are in the sample (I think this is what she said) and then they inseminate when the patient gets a positive opk (like that day or the next day they inseminate so based on Shettles timing this is not territory). But how does this work if timing doesn't sway? Why are there so many IUI boys?
I'm not a huge Shettles believer but I do admit it's things like IUI resulting in mostly boys that makes me think maybe there is some truth to it?

I can imagine that since they are inserting the semen into the uterus right before ovulation there are many vivid sperms at the egg when it appears.
And this is Atomics Theory...many sperms sway blue while less sperm (by having only one attempt in the fertile window) sways pink.
Shettles said that the y sperm is faster at swimming and therefore first to arrive at the egg, but by inserting the semen deep into the uterus this theory is useless anyway...!!

I wondered about this awhile ago and looked into it. IUI seems to sway boy not because of timing or speed of sperm, since we know scientifically that is not the case -- it's the AMOUNT of sperm, which has been observed to sway boy. So IUI deposits more sperm very close to the egg.
All natural sex is going to result in some sperm not making it, but as evidenced by Shettles being disproven and by just the normal birth rate, there's not really a difference between who makes it based on speed or timing between X and Y. But having more sperm around seems to be a bit more Y friendly (hence why jump and dump is still a favored girl tactic -- it's removing more sperm, and for whatever reason, less seems to be more girl friendly).
ETA: I think it's worth adding, considering I've been mulling over the fertility element of boy vs girl, too that: most people going to IUI are having issues. Like, male factor infertility often is a big reason for someone to use IUI, because the sperm are having issues getting to the egg. And these men might have low sperm counts, which would sway girl -- but fixing up and getting the best looking sperm and putting them all at once in the uterus and thus closer to the egg still puts maybe "set for girl" men closer to boy territory. And additionally, you might have many women using IUI for their fertility issues taking lots of things to improve fertility (swaying boy) or who have issues that sway boy (PCOS).
Just some more thoughts! It's sometimes hard to pinpoint what exactly is the sway factor, even.Last edited by Throwaway_panther; May 15th, 2018 at 07:25 AM.

Please keep in mind that all this is speculation BUT...
We believe it is because the sperm are prewashed and all capacitated at once and then inserted all the way up inside so there is a huge, sudden influx of sperm that are ready and rarin' to go. Normally sperm is waiting in the repro tract and some are "asleep" and some are "awake" but the prewash makes them all "awake". We speculate that a lot of sperm at the egg may sway blue for some reason and the IUI process seems to ensure there will be lots of sperm that are positioned to find the egg, vs. a natural conception where they have to swim all the way from the vagina to the egg, and some of them are still dormant.!!! Just to clarify the idea that Y sperm swim faster and live a shorter time has been debunked anyway. http://genderdreaming.com/forum/sway...m-y-sperm.html

Yeah, I know that. But even if it WAS like that, the theory wouldn‘t work with IUI, that‘s what I meant
