    Acidophilus for DW and DH

    Hi,

OH and I have been taking cranberry for about two months now, but it doesn't seem to have made too much of a difference to our pH.

I have read about acidophilus and also people taking both at the same time.

Has anyone got any experiences? Is it safe to do so? Is it likely to lower our pH?

Any help would be much appreciated.

http://genderdreaming.com/forum/ttc-...echniques.html Acidophilus/probiotics are down at the bottom, in the "other" category.

I think ALL SWAYERS should add probiotics, be they acidophilus or other, because swaying can cause yeast infections (there is a link to the Yeast Infections thread in the essay above) and yeast can mess up otherwise good pH.

Probiotics are VERY VERY safe and in fact are highly beneficial and I believe everyone planning a pg and also if you are pg, you should be taking them to help prevent dangerous infections.

OH and I are currently drinking an Actimel a day each. Is that sufficient? Or do we need more? Does it work lowering OH's pH too?

If he has high pH because of an infection in his urethra (pee pee hole) which is actually not that uncommon then yes it can help his pH go down.

If his pH is just in the 7's though, that is totally normal and the probiotics prob. won't change that.

Oh and I think you should get a pill form of probiotics too because you get more that way.

Thanks for your response as always, atomic. So do you think that if OH has a high pH, he might have an infection in his urethra (pee pee hole)? Or do you mean the high pH suggests some sort of infection somewhere in his body and only if it is an infection of the urethra, then the probiotics will help? Sorry, but I am easily confused today...

If OH has a high pH (above 8), that can be indicative of infection somewhere in his repro tract/urinary system. He actually should be checked out by a doctor but I understand a lot of men will not do that. The probiotics will help somewhat with clearing up such an infection IF it is in a part of his body that the probiotics can colonize - his urethra - if it is a deeper infection that the probiotics have no chance of reaching, he would need antibiotics or else to wait for his body to clear up the infection on its own. Garlic may help as it's a natural antibiotic (but garlic is not good for probiotic organisms either so kind of a toss up.)

I would also try giving him cranberry if he will take it. It makes the walls of the bladder less "sticky" and so any bacteria that has infected it will slough off and be urinate out.

It will actually also help him to have YOU take the probiotics too because the probiotics will colonize your VJ and then when you have intercourse the healthy microorganism will then be able to colonize his urethra. (sorry TMI!)
