I generally recommend waiting 18 months for a boy but that's your call to make of course.
If you're not ovulating you're not going to be conceiving anyway, even if you hoped to get pregnant at 12 months.
I would get some cheap OPK and use them once daily after lunch. They'll likely be negative for some time and then once you get a positive where the test line is as dark or darker than control, have three attempts, that night, the next morning and night (so two in the same day on the second day) and if possible, one more the next day. Then keep testing - it's not unusual to have false positive OPK sometimes and any time you get a positive, you need to have the attempts. It is possible to get pregnant before you ever get your period!
