Salmon is fish, so it is still fish oil. The issues arises in the source of the salmon used to make your salmon oil. Sea farmed salmon usually contain much more omega-6 and saturated fats than wild salmon. In addition, depending on the type of salmon, the EPA/DHA content is relatively low, typically ranging from 8 to 16% of the oil.
That means, you would need twice as much salmon oil to get the same EPA/DHA dose found in regular fish oil. One of the reasons we are encouraged to take fish oil for the HE diet is to balance your omega 6 oils that you'd consume when you eat nuts, EPO and processed foods (if you eat those). So again, ultimately it boils down to the source of fish. If it's wild caught and a good quality oil, you should be okay as far as balancing of Omegas.

Carlson is a good brand
So Carlson's fish oil (one serving/ 1 Teaspoon) has:
Omega-3 Fatty Acids* 1,600 mg †
EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid)* 800 mg †
DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid)*500 mg †
and the salmon capsules have (one serving/two capsules):
Total Omega-3 Fatty Acids‡ 500 mg
EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid)‡ 220 mg
DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid)‡ 180 mg
So you should take 3 times the dosage for it to even out Carlson's salmon oil still has fish oil in it. According to the back label, it contains 50% salmon oil and the rest is their regular fish oil.

Salmon oil is fine, I would be hesitant for you guys to use more than 1000 mg for a couple reasons, firstly because high dose fish oil may lower cholesterol and that in turn may lower testosterone levels and reduce estrogen, and also because it can really contribute to bleeding and bruising issues. To compensate for the difference in fat profiles I'd have you leave out the EPO (I'm doing this more and more anyway, with the increasing amount of data indictating Omega 6 fats seem to sway pink in animals) and yes yes limit processed foods - I like you guys to keep these limited on HE Diet anyway to keep weight gain under control.

My preference is to stick with 1000 mg tops and then just cut back other sources of Omega 6 like EPO, flax, veg oils to compensate! Thanks
