    butter vs jam

okay, this is another stupid question. Do you suppose that jam is better then butter to put on my gluten free bagels? I'm doing okay with my nutrient levels and stuff, but I find that I am going over fat daily. THe culprit doing me in is my butter (well, its a dairy free, soy free butter spread). It has 11g of fat per tablespoon and although I don't know how much I'm truly using, I'm guessing its about 3 table spoons between the two halves. I can't go less cause it wont spread (it melts). Anyway, I was looking at the Smucker's natural raspberry spread (high fructose corn syrup free) I have and its lower in cal and fat per tablespoon, but I wonder if the nutrient trade off is nominal or going to be a problem. Do you think any nutrients it has has been cooked mostly out when processed? If so I'm looking at just 10 carbs in the form of sugar per tbls (I can probably use less of it, but even so, its only about 30 more of each if I don't).

    What do you think?

I don't think there's much in the way of nutrients in jam, I'd choose that over butter

I use sugar free jam- yay for artificial sugars! Also for the butter, if you can find unsalted margarine, use that!

I can't find unsalted with my dietary restrictions. I haven't been monitoring sodium anyway. I'm looking for less fat! this butter spread is high in it.

I'll look at the sugar free stuff too though!

Both of them are fine. There are no nutrients to speak of in jam/jelly.

Youdon't need to do sugarfree unless you have PCOS/IR or are having trouble going over on cals.

Do keep in mind that higher intake of Omega 6 fats (which are prob. in your butter spread) may help your pink sway, so you don't need to avoid it all together of course.

Just a reminder for others reading this thread, most people have the opposite problem and are getting too LITTLE fat, so please don't read this and decide to switch out your butter for jam...you may need the fat. Fat should be 20-30% of your day's calorie intake, which shakes out to be between 25-60 g fat depending on how many cals you're getting.
