Folic acid and iron advice please!
ADA92577-3B04-4A39-80E7-40A824AE09E2.jpeg
Hello
I have anemia and today the doctor prescribed iron+folic acid(350mcg) that come together in one product.
I am in my TWW. Is it safe to take it?
I always take 5mg folic acid, should I stop it?it will be too much folic acid😰or should I swipe it with 1mg folic acid!
Thank you

Why are you taking 5 mg folic acid? Is there a reason for that?? If you're taking it for a medical reason then you shouldn't just swap one for the other, and if you're taking it WITHOUT a medical reason that's too much and you should wean off all but 1000 mcg of that (which is 1 mg). But before you do that, please fill me in on why you're taking that much so I can give you the best advice I can.

No medical reason. I thought it was the right amount to take before pregnancy
What should I do now? and how to wean off ?

That dose is only for people who have a history of babies with neural tube defects. Yes, you need to start weaning off now. DO NOT drop it all of a sudden, over the course of the next month gradually wean back to 1200-1600 mcg maximum (and that should account for the amount in the Ferose F as well, so you'd take 1000 mcg/1mg folic in pill form and the Ferose with the additional 325 in it for total of 325)
Since you are in the 2ww, if you are pregnant, you should just stay at whatever dose you're on at the time of BFP through the entire first trimester and then and only then wean off of it. So go ahead and start weaning now (I'd just drop 1000 of what you were taking and add in the Ferose F) and then take that for a few days and drop down another 1000. Stay there till you are due for your pregnancy test. AT that point, if the test is negative, continue to wean off the folic acid. If you ARE pregnant keep taking that same amount till the end of the first tri and then wean off. We don't want to cause any shock to a developing fetus by weaning off of the FA too quickly

It's not harmful, you'll just pee out any of the excess, but some evidence indicates that taking more than you need may build up in the system of some people who are prone to it, and possibly cause issues when pregnant. This is believed to be in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters and so I do NOT want you to panic and drop it totally or too quickly, do take the time to wean off gradually!!

Sorry! What is BFP?
So from tomorrow, I will take 4000 mcg for couple of days then 3000 and so on until I do the pregnancy test and keep the same dose for the whole first tri, am I right?
About how many days for each dose?

BFP = "big fat positive" meaning a positive pregnancy test.
Yes that's right!! I would give it 3-4 days per dose.
