Alright, new journey, new thread! :) I'll leave the old sad one behind for now.
Ladies so this is my FMU OPK... I know I know, but it gives me HOPE! LOL
This is the darkest one I've seen, and it looks a bit darker in RL. I'm going to take one again in like 4 hours and compare.
So DH and I started BD on May 6, and then on Wednesday the 9th, and now today on Friday the 11th.
He is at this point refusing to take supplements because he just wants to avoid doing me until the hcg is out of my system,(It already is, but he thinks otherwise) so I HOPE that I O REALLY quick here! I was feeling activity down there yesterday on the left side so I'm hoping my body is getting ready!
Now Atomic, I trust you and I want this next pregnancy to stick of course so I really need your help on this. I have hypothyroidism so I'm not the average lady when it comes to taking Vitex. I am TERRIFIED to stop taking it when I learned that it is a natural medicine for my disease. But MAYBE it will be okay.. I've now been on 100 mcg of levothyroxine since the 23rd of April yet it takes 4-6 weeks for the thyroid to become balanced again.
Then I got my mom saying "I don't think you need to take an herb to conceive..remember the Enforma system you took as a teen and it was herbal, my friend has the same thyroid condition as you, Vitex is probably why you miscarried. You DON'T need an herb to conceive, you are fertile enough" Then when I told her "No, mom it WAS my thyroid that killed it, I didn't HAVE any production happening.. my body was screaming at my thyroid to make more!"
blah blah blah.
Then there's part of me just struggling with crap saying.. maybe the sperm I scraped off the couch was messed up with chemicals because we have to carpet clean our couch regularly because of our kids. How stupid was I to do that..
Then I didn't wean off my supplements like I was told to...
Did the Vitex harm my egg because I took it into my 6th OPK.. Or did it happen because I stopped the Vitex when I should have kept going and could have saved my baby..
I Don't know!!!!!
I know things are different than they were because I'm taking red raspberry leave capsules, now just to double to check that those are safe to continue, when I get that + OPK and BFP?
I need total help this time of how to wean off ALL my supplements. Please tell me exactly how to wean off of them so this does not happen again.. I feel My +OPK is right around the corner. My cm last night was white and very stretchy..
Anyone know if semen is that stretchy by a few inches? LOL that sounds so silly!
This thread is going to be like the other one, my journey with Vitex.. so here we GO!

On a side note I'd love for you ladies to go find the latest thread I made about that lady on youtube. It's a fun video to watch because she reveals the gender of her baby and she took the Pink Or Blue lab test with her hubby feet away from her on the otherside of the kitchen baby gate..and results said BOY and she took Vitex to conceive.. she even took it 12 or so week into pregnancy then finally weaned off! I thought she was NUTS for doing that LOL. Anyways just watch!

Two things I would love to discuss as well: maca root and progesterone cream. I might get some cream to apply after I've Oed to ease my mind of dropping Vitex at O.

We don't know, can't know, and it very likely was none of those things at all and just a bum swimmer or a bum egg. :/

My crystal ball is in the shop this week unfortunately but to the absolute best of my knowledge, what feels best and safest to me is either NO vitex at all, or stopping vitex the day before O. I do not believe vitex caused your loss, taking it or stopping it, I think it was just one of those things and the levo is only going to help prevent anything happening in the future. I know of tons of ladies with miscarriages that resolved after thyroid treatment and I am hoping that it's true for you.

The RRL capsules again, we don't truly know what is best or safest. RRL can cause uterine cramping that is quite dramatic at times, even in the first tri (which I witnessed firsthand when I was pg with DS 3) and so I ~personally~ think it's best to wean off at BFP.

Semen doesn't stretch, so if it's stretchy, it's CM!

Good luck!!!

People had some WEIRD stuff happen on Maca. ELP was having hallucinations on Maca!!! I feel it's too much of an unknown for now.

The prog cream they sell OTC is only 20 mg of progesterone. Barely any at all - about the level a postmenopausal woman makes and not enough to sustain a pregnancy. Prescription strength prog starts at 200 mg and up. My concern with the OTC prog cream is that even tho it can't do enough to sustain a pregnancy, it ~may~ be enough to confuse your body - your body senses this progesterone and may not know how much to make any more, if that makes any sense. It may not make as much and may end up causing you to make less than you would otherwise. Plus, you need to take it throughout the first trimester every day, and don't miss any days.

If you think you need prog support, it's much better to get a prescription strength cream.

I REALLY think vitex is great for swaying pink. I took it with DD3 without even knowing lol

I also agree that if you do Vitex, you should stop it a day or so before you anticipate ovulation.

As for progesterone, if you have been diagnosed with a prog deficiency, I would def recommend that you take a Rx product. If not, I do think it is ok to use a well made NPC but we don't really know if it will do a thing. I like Emerita because you can get it in 20mg packets so that you know exactly how much you are using at a time. Trying to measure out a nebulous amount of cream is difficult.

As for the dosing, NPC is different than synthetic. The studies are interesting. They know that NPC binds to progesterone receptors in the body. However, it is not really directly measurable in a blood test. Some have said that 20mg of prog cream is equiv to 200mg of oral or vag suppos because transdermal absorption bypasses the hepatic system. However, they are really only estimating this as far as I can see. In studies, NPC does increase measurable blood levels but the levels don't increase like they do with the Rx products, rise more slowly over time and never reach the same levels. However, we might not be measuring the right thing and what is there might be much better used by the body than synthetics. In head on studies and in NPC vs placebo testing, primarily used for menopause symptoms, symptom relief is comparable with NPC to the higher dosed oral or vaginal supplements. The discussion in this article is interesting: A Study to Look at Hormonal Absorption of Progesterone Cream Used in Conjunction With Transdermal Estrogen - Health News - redOrbit (http://www.redorbit.com/news/health/264854/a_study_to_look_at_hormonal_absorption_of_progeste rone_cream/)

Also, interestingly, there are studies comparing transdermal hormones to oral hormones that show that oral hormones increase inflammation markers where transdermal do not. Since they think that many miscarriages, especially repeated miscarriage have an immune component, this is interesting to think about.

Bottom line, NPC evidence in miscarriage prevention is limited. There has been few human studies, all small and more often case reports. It does seem pretty convincing that there is no harm (due to the very large volume of users), as long as you take it twice daily EVERY single day without missing a single dose until between 12 to 14 weeks. I am currently 11 weeks so I have been taking it for roughly 13 weeks. That is 182 doses already!! I have my calendar set to email me and text me every single morning and every single evening to be sure I remembered it. I am usually really good but let me tell you, there has been maybe 3 or 4 out of the 182 where that text saved me- I was so tired and crashed and would have totally forgotten. If you search, you can find many stories of women who missed 1 dose and started bleeding 1-2 days later. They might have had a miscarriage anyway but of course, they will always worry that it was that missed dose. So be sure you are the type who can commit if you start it!

What if you do not know when you are going to "O" how do you stop VITEX then?
I've lost contact with my body recently AF was a week late and was irregularly weird this month. I kinda just wanted to get up and walk away from my body for confusing my mind this much! I am all out of OPK & if I order some I won't have it in time for the "big events" as I plan to DTD Thursday-next Thursday lol

I would guess charting would be the answer to knowing when you O. Do you do that?
My body is CRazy right now, and I can't figure out what's going on with it, my sleep patterns aren't the greatest though, so I probably wouldn't benefit from it even if I did chart with temp.
I can't figure out either my OPK or my cheapie HTP.. I'm in limbo right now.
I hope that you are able to figure out what is going on. My cheapie OPKS work fantastically! But my HPTs are another story.. only ghostlines.. .. ...I would recommend taking a few tests a day so you don't miss your surge.

Well, you could cut off Vitex at day 14 since that's average.. ? :)

Two hours ago I had milky white non stretchy cm and now I discovered a GLOB of 4- in stretchy clear mixed with white cm, but my OPK isn't yet positive yet. Weird!
I'm almost 2 weeks to the day of my M/C. I stopped Vitex yesterday incase it was holding O back.

Maybe day 13 to be safe? Well actually I didn't take it last night and I'm scared to take it today as well..I am gettin an HSG and the antibiotic said do not take while taking vitamins

That is weird! Not even a sign of it becoming positive?

Yeah its VERY weird. My control line isn't even that dark...but my
HPT control is VERY dark with a ghostline. So I am in limbo, and I don't know what the
hell is going on right now. Perhaps later this afternoon I will have a positive.

I would stop about 1 or 2 days before I your average o day. I usually o on day 12 so I would stop it on day 10, my opk would turn + 24 he's later than I would o 24 he's after that. If I kept taking it, o would be late.

For people who always have super long cycles, just take it for the first 13 or 14 days of your cycle and then stop.

In your situation Babyy, I would just stop it the day before you plan to start TTC.

I prefer it if people use RepHresh further out than that from BD - 8-12 hours. Otherwise you risk killing off all the sperm.

Some vitamins can cause certain antibiotics to be either less effective or supereffective and so you are not supposed to take vitamins while you're on them.

I couldn't find any hard data about vitex and antibiotics and so for safety's sake, prob. best to stop.

This morning BD didn't work out..I even scarfed down two fresh fat delicious chocolate and white chocolate chip cookies that my mom made this morning.. (completely forgetting I was probably going to O soon! haha) Then Tonight when I woke up I felt BIG time pressure down there..and hubby still wanted to BD! So I dipped my opk in water and showed hubby (tip for any of you ladies TTC with uncooperative spouses. I know the Lord will forgive me, I already told him I'm sorry, but he understands my stubborn husband! LOL I think even God has a sense of humor too! And successfully BD and he konked out while I massaged his back since it was a LONG day for him. I didn't have to pretend to wash off..I didn't get up for an hour! Well okay maybe 40 mins later to slip on my ion bracelet! (lol) And while I laid down I had a pleasant visualization to relax. Pictured being at the beach with my hubby and BDing and then afterwards meeting my daughter with her long platinum hair to match my own. Then I pictured her saying "It's time mamma" And then she left. Lastly visualized Oing even and popping out that egg or two. When I got up I was surprised that a ton of pressure was gone. I think I have a real shot for conceiving this first O after M/C.
I know I am super fertile, that's what I've learned.
Fingers and Toes crossed!!! YAY!!! :) I'll be in the 2WW tmw!

Aww this makes me so sad to read. But I thought you are due to O now? You can't feel this way now. You have another chance to conceive right now, you can't just be all negative right away, that is so hard and won't help you in any way, you said it was so painful that you've been crying constantly, but you aren't out yet this cycle. May might just be your month you never know!
If you don't conceive this cycle, just give TTC a break and do what's best for you and your family. You can still just "play, and not prevent" Once you let all the extreme stress of TTC go, you will welcome the laid back fun of just making love with your hubby because you want to, and enjoy it, not focusing on anything else or having a purpose for doing it.
When it's time for your babe to come along, and I do believe they all come when they are meant to come, The Lord will bless you with your sticky bean! I KNOW he will! In the meantime please cheer up, my friend!

Thank you for your reply though, it makes me feel better! Maybe already Oed, and the Vitex is to blame for the surge still present. It was odd really, no explanation. like 8ish hours after I took the first +opk the line did completely fade then come back again..which I have never seen.
I wonder if when this is over it will result in a double O.

Butterfly, I'm happy to hear you got a BD'ing in, and I'm sure it will be in time, my only question is why is your DH so relucant to get you preggers? Was just wondering...it was a fight to get my 2nd one, though DS2 is an opps, but previously that year in April/May/June I begged my DH for a chance to get preggers and he was aganist it for monetary reasons. Then in July I decided to stop fighting it and listen to him and boom! we got accidently preggers in August...was just wondering what the story behind you and DH is :)

Our boys are A LOT of work and have TONS of energy! hahaha "Too much work" will be his response to anyone who asks. He likes to choose the moments that our kids are screaming and crying and being difficult and then says "I'm done having kids." "I don't want anymore kids with you" etc. It's heartbreaking to hear, I just try to tune out now. I have made it clear that nothing will talk me out of wanting a daughter. And I won last time, so I know I will do it again. I got a BD in on Saturday and Sun, so that does make me happy. I just need to relax and forget about O, but all the pain and pressure doesn't make it easy. I am feeling tons better though, and I'm trying not to test so much now the surge is there. :)

Thank you so much! I think I am Oing right now because I over ate yesterday (depressed & it was lasagna which mother in law made so I love it too much) and I woke up at 7 because I was starving!! I never in my life felt this hungry! I woke up because of hunger pains..weird!
Hubby and I are now both jobless and I can't have so much pressure on him so I too want and need a job and throwing a baby into the equation scares me but he's not scared at all. He's actually a little upset that I'm pull back from it but I just think we need to focus on ourselves first. It's confusing because I want a baby so bad but I have to realize we both have goals as well. I just fear trying and trying and seeing AF or BFN because god says no because we need to get stable jobs now u know what I mean? I told him god is saying no because we are too stressed as it is and a baby will add more stress :(
Maybe May is my month maybe not but..sometimes I get the feeling that it will be and it would brighten these cloudy days but then I say no because it's not meant to happen yet

RE: husbands...I totally understand.

Mine is a stay at home Dad but the minute and I do mean the *minute* I get home (I barely have time to take off my work clothes and get in comfy, lounge clothes) the kids are *my* responsiblity and he is "off-duty"

If I ask for help on the weekends, he'll roll his eyes back and say he's not my slave, lol.

I tune him out too, because it's not worth a fight, and he knows how I feel. I've told him so many times when the arrangement first began that if the roles were reversed he wouldn't want to be ambushed the second he came home from work and I'd still be watching the kids the entire evening. That usually gets a response of "don't you want to play with the kids?" (guilt) or "They want you, not me when you come home, I can't help that" (more guilt.)

So now if I really need soemthing from him, I don't ask or beg, I just say "here are the kids" and do what I got to do, and he deals with it, even if he grumbles.

Well I checked my cervix this morning... VERY dry and hard to check it but there was some milky white discharge up by my cervix! Cervix was firm and low and closed from what I could tell.
So I had a positive OPK right before I checked I just had to know WHAT was going on. Well... there can't be O if it's firm, low and closed, so it must be the Vitex that caused the other +s, and so I must have already Oed and the gas and cramping yesterday came after O.
I suspect that I Oed on Monday when I had that intense pain that stopped me in my tracks but who knows. I'm just happy I am now in the 2WW!!! I don't think I will do anymore OPKS.. maybe one a day until they fade.

Well, I never thought it could do too much but that was before I got anemia this time. I've had it 3 times before and never felt bad but my iron is pretty low this time. I've been really tired the last 2 weeks, plus I felt kind of physically weak/lightheaded, and I was also making some really odd mistakes here on the site (like writing "antibiotics" instead of "antihistamine") and then I started the iron pills and feel a million times better, I almost can't believe it how much better I feel. Iron helps with the amount of oxygen you're getting in your blood and since you were bleeding for so long, it's possible you could be on the low side.

i wouldn't worry about the progesterone unless you're having super short cycles.

I've gotten pg twice now while nursing with no problems at all (one was before I even got AF!!) and then I've nursed twice throughout pregnancy. I breastfed quite a lot when I was pg with DS 4 and he weighed 8 lbs! You just have to be sure to eat a lot and it will be fine.

I've never had IB.

Before we got pregnant with DS1, I was hell bound on getting accidentially knocked up. I watched my cycles like a hawk, and I always had break through bleeding a few days before AF, so I always knew that I was out and I'd be sad, waiting for the real flow to start. One time I had bleeding 7 days after we had DTD (but he pulled out) and I was convinced it was going to be pregnancy because I had read so much of IB, but alas, it was not, some weird freaky cycle thing.

Then, when I finally did get pregnant on accident (my DH knew I wasn't on birth control, he just pulled out for a method), I had no bleeding at all...no breakthrough bleeding or anything. I was so busy studying to take the GREs (a test to try to make it in grad school), that I didn't notice the lack of bleeding until I was 2 weeks late. I was at an eye DR appt and was filling out a patient survey and one of the questions asked: "Are you pregnant? Y or N" and I thought hmmm, I am two weeks late, have had no bleeding, but it couldn't be! (I didn't recall us having sex that entire month!) I circled N and took a test that night and it was postive before I finished peeing....biggest surprise of my life! :)

Now DS1 is 4 and I could not imagine not having him....we had a great weekend playing together, and I love it when he says "Mommy you're my very best friend." He melts my heart.

And butterfly, so sorry for hijacking your thread! Sometimes I just wanna ramble and tell a story...LOL

So I will go ahead and explain... so today my boobs were hurting and .. I knew something was off and then I said to myself... bleeding..period on 10 dpo.. REALLY!?
Then I couldn't shake the "OMG I am pregnant" feeling.. So I held my pee for 4 hours exactly and tested at night.
When the line came up though I started sobbing hysterically, afraid that.. well.. I'm not going to repeat it.
I called up my BFF and she calmed me down.. but then hubby and I fought for a few hours straight and finally ended it.
He knew I was lying to him so... at the end I finally came clean. Now he feels happier.

DO NOT double prenatal vitamins. Many vitamins are not safe in higher doses and can actually cause birth defects.

I always like everyone to take a bit extra folic esp. after a loss...1200-1600 for pink, 2000 for blue, up to 4000 if you have a previous history of a child with neural tube defects. i would also suggest a DHA supp for pregnancy like Enfamil Expecta.

The only difference between BF and not BF is about 300 extra cals a day. Which, if you're like me, when you're pregnant you eat that much more anyway!! :) I gained 80 lbs when BF DS 4 and already gained 35 lbs with this pg. o.O

I did have anemia, but I really think that's because this baby doesn't "like" meat and not because of BF. I also had anemia with my second son (not BF) and twice when I was a teenager and not even pregnant.

Bloated and gassy are two of the telltale signs of early pg. I look more bloated at 10 DPO (when preggo) than I look when I'm 8 weeks pregnant.

What about iron? What should I increase?

Doubling up once will not hurt anything, esp. this early on, and esp. with Flintstones vitamins which are not super high doses. If you do it for weeks and months on end, esp. in the latter half of the first trimester, it's just not a good idea (Vit. A in supplement form has been strongly linked to birth defects.) You just don't NEED to double up on vitamins, it's an old wives tale because you just don't need the megadoses of vitamins, breastfeeding or no. I'd rather see you find a prenatal gummy rather than the Flintstones ones to be sure you're getting the right combo of nutrients. The Flintstones are lacking in some nutrients you could benefit from and then have the Vit. A which you should be taking only a small amount via supps. They do have iodine which is good, so if you decide not to use them any more and your new vites don't have iodine, be sure to eat iodized salt.

You should probably (esp. coming off the bleeding) be on some form of iron to provide 100% ADULT iron needs. the downside of iron is that it upsets your stomach, so if the reason you're taking the Flintstones is because you get sick from reg. prenatals, an iron supplement is going to make you queasy.

Ladies, I love you.. you are all so sweet and wonderful! And we are truly like a big family here! I don't know what I would do without the support. But right now I need all the powers of prayer that I can get. I have been dark red then bright red spotting with some small clots (clotting usually only happens when I lay down). I didn't want to talk about it of course due to the obvious.. but this am it seems to be slowing down a lot! It's turning brown now..maybe, and I hope it's just implantation!
I myself am praying HARD! I found an OB and I'm hoping in half an hour I can call and get an appt this morning. I am going to beg for progesterone before even being tested. It might be due to BFing because my baby won't stop :'( I love him too much to be a cold hard ass and say "NO!" I tried it in the past but it didn't work anyway. I really REALLY think it's a progesterone issue.. and pray.. PRAY pray pray the doctor will soften her heart and give me some. I don't want to put up a ticker just yet.

Thank you!

He did a quanitive test and checked my thyroid and gave me oral progesterone! Ahhh I feel better! He says I'll keep it up until 12 weeks if baby is.. well, there.
When I got home, I was really constipated and had to push hard.. and well I started bleeding red again.. I'm so tired of this.. can't it just STOP!?!?!

LOL Butterfly...I bet yellow is a much better color than brown or red! totally understand, you crack me up

I am glad it's getting better, and can't wait till the hcg goes up way high!!

Just for reassurance, cinnanom is one of those spices that you have to consume a pretty big amount to have any toxic effects. One cinn roll is surely OK, prob even two...the most you'll get out of the cinn roll that may be hurtful to you is constipaction! After I got my BFP, I resumed eating my oatmeal again, and guess what flavor it was? Cinn. and spice! Baby is very healthy and OK!

My only concern with the lunch meat is sodium nitrate is in most lunch meat, and that is supposedly a big no no for pregnancy. I didn't listen and consumed quite a bit of it for lunches when preg with DS2, and he's awesome and very smart, but he has a milk protein allergy and some issues with food allergies. I'm not blaming his allergies on the lunch meat per se, but I ate everything the same with both pregs, except the lunch meat with DS2. DS1 does not have a single food allergy--again, the lucnh meat is prob not to blame, but it does concern me to the point that I did not have anything with sodium nitrate this time just in case.....if my DS1 wants bacon, we buy the all natural organic bacon that is sodium nitrate free and even then I only have 1 slice, if that, because I'm so paranoid...

And I'm sure this is not helping either...lol, but I just wanted to share my experience with lunch meat with you.

Yes mam, and it's STILL GONE this am! I love love love that Progesterone! :) I know I can't forget to take it.. I have three cell phone alarms for each time I take it during the day!

Thank you for sharing your experiences with lunch meat and cinnamon!
So because of the nitrates don't consume it at all? Dang it, it's good! LOL

I know I'm being silly about the cinnamon. You guys enjoy it and don't worry! I will wait! ;)

All this talk of cinnamon rolls made me hungry, so I bought one this morning and just finished it a few minutes ago :).

For me I don't eat deli meat because of the risk of listeria. I probably should worry about nitrates but I don't - I just had bacon this weekend. I do eat deli meats if they're hot - like in a grilled panini - but I only have things like that once in a long while.

Oh, and I'm soooo happy the progesterone is working!!!!!

For me I don't eat deli meat because of the risk of listeria.

Same here ... I don't eat deli meat/lunch meat or hot dogs when I'm pregnant. I figure that's such a tiny sliver of the total things we can eat overall (esp. after the sway diet where it felt like so many things, including ALL meats, were off the table) that I can easily do without it for nine months. Pregnancy is tough enough to achieve and m/c so devastating, that I figure it's one easy thing I can do to prevent trouble. My mother did lose a baby at 20 weeks when I was a toddler and she believes it's because she changed cat litter (which can be a vector for toxoplasmosis ... I originally miswrote this as listeria and edited to fix; also, I should add that it wasn't her cat, it was my grandmother's, so my mom wouldn't have had the long-term exposure to help with immunity).
As Atomic said, you can't freak out about everything ... and most m/c are chromosomal and not caused by anything that moms did. But for me personally, I'm more comfortable taking a temporary pause on Oscar Mayer and his ilk. ;) (I totally still eat bacon, though!!! Mmm, bacon!!!)

Mochagirl
June 7th, 2012, 01:51 PM
I do eat hot dogs and sausages if I've made them myself and know they've been heated enough to kill any listeria, but with my first pregnancy I didn't touch them at all. I'd still never get one from an outdoor cart or at a large organized BBQ because you never know with those of they've been cooked long enough.

Drama, now I'm freaked out a little...I have changed cat box 2-3 times this preg, i thought the biggest issue with catbox during pregnancy was the toxosomplomous (sp?) thing? I've had the cats for over 10 years, so I assumed I'd already been exposed years ago to the toxompolus....listeria huh? My DH always makes a fuss when I say I cannot change the cat box because of the pregnancy so when it gets too bad I put on gloves, a mask and make sure I"m covered up and do it, then take a shower right afterwards...I'm going to have to look this up.

Mochagirl

Ack! I wrote a big long reply on my phone then tapatalk crashed and I lost it. What I said was that Toxoplasmosis is the main worry with cat litter, but both my midwife and vet assured me in the past that my chances of getting it were almost zero. First of all, if you have an indoor cat they're unlikely to get it in the first place, and if you've spent a large chunk of your life around cats you've likely had it before anyway and are now immune. I changed the litter myself through my whole pregnancy with ds3 because dh despised the cat and there is no way I could have gotten him to do it.

Butterfly Spirit
June 7th, 2012, 02:25 PM
We have a kitty too and we all love her.. we didn't want to get rid of her. DH is changing the litter.
And I don't breathe it in. I leave when he changes it, and I'm cautious when I walk by it.
Stupid toxoplasmosis.

In looking over my "I'm expecting" app, it does look like I confused the two. I thought listeria was involved in both deli meats and the kitty litter thing ... but it looks like the latter is toxo, not listeria. Sorry about that ... I will edit my post to fix.

Also, in my mom's case, she had changed the kitty litter at my grandmother's house. So it wasn't her cat and she hadn't had the regular exposure. I figure that if you CAN have your DH or someone else do it, it sure is good to be on the safe side. But each of us has to do what's best for her and what fits into her life. (No cats for us, as DH is quite allergic!! :))

I've never even heard of them screening for GBS that early, much less treating it. I thought a baby could only contract it through a vaginal birth anyway - you still have 9 months until then! I hope someone with more knowledge has some answers for you.

Babycenter.com is saying the bacteria can come and go and that's why they do it at 35 weeks!
It also said if you test positive it means you are a carrier but that
you or the baby won't necessarily become ill even without proper treatment.

I think I will tell him no when I see him next Tues. I will be 5 weeks then.

I agree with you, I will definitely talk to him next week when I see him. I'd rather not have him pressure me on the phone right now. :( I'm so irritated enough, and I won't just do exactly what I'm told from here on, they aren't always right. Doing stuff too early is a BAAD idea, I would have never gone to the hospital when I thought I was miscarrying, just got my blood drawn. There's nothing they can do but painful, invasive, unnecessary things when they can't stop it from happening anyways. Okay rant over. :)

Butterfly, they don't even test for Group B Strep at ANY point in pregnancy in the UK so they sure as hell can't treat it.... First of all, if you've had cats your whole life you've probably been exposed already (it's a very mild illness and easy to miss) and secondly, if you wear gloves and a mask it's tough to catch it anyway (you actually have to INGEST the oocytes). Most people don't even catch it from cats, they catch it from contaminated meat or vegetables. Also, it's most dangerous to a baby in the first tri anyway (when luckily, it's hardest for them to catch.)

Our cat had toxoplasmosis when I was 7 months pg with DS 2, so severely that she actually went into liver failure and passed away and the infection was so thorough that her tissues were preserved and are now on display at Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine! o.O

I didn't catch the toxoplasmosis even tho she bit me while she was sick (may I just say, that was a nightmare) and DS 2 was and is fine.

The interesting thing about toxoplasmosis is that if you've been infected with it, you may have more sons than the population as a whole. Crazy!

Peeing in early pg is super common due to hormonal changes. I wouldn't worry about it unless you see blood in your urine and they'll be able to detect that at your next doc's visit.

It's healthy bacteria that live in your body all the time, that your body is used to and likes having around (some even help us digest our food) and compete for resources (food, space) with "bad" bacteria that can make us sick like Group B strep and even things like yeasts (which are not bacteria of course). If you have a lot of healthy bacteria, it's very difficult to get infected by "bad" bacteria, because the bad guys can't get a toehold.

You've probably heard them called by other names like acidophilus. Probiotic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Probiotic) I think probiotics are GREAT for everyone to take especially during pregnancy (and I'm actually out and need to get some myself!) If you take them in advance of delivery, the good bacteria colonize your VJ and your baby actually gets a nice big dose of them as s/he passes thru the birth canal.

If you do have a UTI, the probiotic will also help clear that up as well.

LolaInLove
June 8th, 2012, 01:19 PM
They are like "good" bacteria that help balance your system out. Here is a good article: Probiotics & Probiotic Supplements - WebMD: Uses and Safety (http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/tc/probiotics-topic-overview) I take them on and off, and did take them when pg with #2 as my doula advised that I should take them for overall health, first, but also to counter the GBS.

You can use docusate safely during pregnancy. If you aren't really suffering from nausea, eat anything with heavy fiber content: grapes, apples, plumbs, shredded weight, beans, broccoli, green and red leaf lettuce, etc. Have hot soup (not high in fiber, but hot liquid can encourage your intestines to stop being so lazy). Make sure you aren't getting too much iron from your prenatal vitamin. Avoid bananas. The progesterone can cause constipation, too.

I have heard of probiotics causing a yeast infection. Yeast infections can happen when any of the good bacteria is imbalanced, either too much or too little.

Well ladies I have for the first time in my life broken 200 lbs on the scale! YIKES! I was 189 with both my boys and I gained only around 15 lbs with each one during the pregnancy. but I didn't break 200 ever lol... so uhm, yeah.. lol I'll be HUGE at delivery! I'm hoping the extra weight I put on with April only helped me conceive this one as well. :D
I'm pretty damn confident it's a girl, so we'll see!
