Supper - pasta (2 servings:oops:) mixed with 1 TBSP low fat ricotta and parm

Snack - peppermint tea, raspberries and some Nibs (red licorice)

Not a bad day - I was a bit above with protein - about 46g, but my sodium was only about 530mg! My total calories were 1200.

Me too, great idea! This was yesterday:

100ml skimmed milk in my coffees - I'm having one after my morning workout and another mid-morning (with lots of sweetener!) otherwise I really struggle to make it until lunch time, and I didn't drink coffee before I had my 3rd boy so you never know!

Lunch - 2 small slices white bread with unsalted butter, a slice of dairylea light processed cheese and a little iceberg lettuce and skinless cucumber. Cup of strawberries with a dollop of zero % greek yogurt and sweetener on a meringue nest.

Dinner - 2 servings of pasta with half a tin of tomatoes and a few chopped leeks, mushrooms and courgettes with some quark (almost) fat free soft cheese mixed in.

Snack - pop tart. I never had these before and I hated it - so won't be having them again!

I meant to have my Yakult before bed but forgot ...

Today I've had:

100ml skimmed milk in 2 coffees

Lunch - 2 small slices of bread, unsalted butter and sugar free raspberry jam. A cup of grapes and an Activia fat free raspberry yogurt.

Dinner - same as yesterday but with a little parmesan instead of the quark. Meringue nest, zero % greek yogurt, sweetener and diced peeled apple.

I haven't decided what to have for snack yet and I'll try and remember my Yakult!

For drinks I have sugar free fruit squash (artificially sweetened), diet caffeine free coke and peppermint tea. I might have a vodka or two this weekend :D

Took several month to get used to...

7 am coffee with aspartame and coffemate
9am crystal light
11am low everything vegan lunch and diet caff-free soda
1 pm coffee with aspartame and coffemate
3pm crystal light
6pm low everything vegan rich dinner (40g of protien every other day) diet caff-free soda
8pm crystal light

The drinks spread out help to calm hunger pain. But I eat about 1,800 cals a day, no dairy, very little salt and sugar because I crave more, and about 40g of protein for BFing.

Before I was a hugh sugar, salt, and meat person. Guessing I was averaging 3,000 mg of salt, well over 500 cals worth of sugar, a weeks worth of protein in one day, and about 2,500-3,000 cals a day if not more. I plan to change a lot for a healthier lifetime diet.

Breakfast peppermint tea
Lunch 2 pieces of toast with jam (there's a pattern here!!) actimel fat free, some strawberries,
A tiny, tiny bit of ds2's ice cream
Dinner cous, cous with courgette, aubergine, squeeze of lemon, butter and Parmesan. Muller light yogurt and few more strawberries

But jam toast is yum (shame we can't eat 4 or 5 slices of it!). Today I was excited because I'd decided that as a 'treat' on Saturdays I would have a couple of eggs. We also had a family day out so had a picnic.

Breakfast - coffee, sweetener and skimmed milk
Mid-morning - met friends for a coffee, had sweetener but no skimmed milk so I had a splash of semi-skimmed
Lunch - 2 pieces of bread with unsalted Lurpack, a slice of dairylea light and iceberg lettuce and cucumber (sounds so much more substantial than it is!), a packet of Goodies (toddler!) cheese puffs, strawberries. A couple of diet caffeine free cokes.
Dinner - A bagel with unsalted Lurpack and scrambled eggs. Meringue nest with an Activia fat free yogurt.
Snack - Grapes and Yakult light.

Seems like a good place to record my daily exercise too as I find it *so* difficult to stick to. Today I went out for an hour with my youngest DS in his pushchair and ran as much as I could, walking in between. It was exhausting and I tried to like it but I hated every minute!

Yesterday was a strange day because I ended up falling and hurting myself late afternoon and spent the whole evening in the hospital:

Breakfast: coffee, peppermint tea
Lunch: salt-free bread with unsalted butter, yogurt, CL
Dinner: none (in the hospital)
Snack: 2 mini pumpkin chocolate chip muffins (not ideal but it was all I had with me at the hospital)

Today --
Breakfast: Tassimo cappuccino (not great but after my night last night I needed a treat)
Lunch: salt-free bread with unsalted butter, CL
Snack: yogurt
Supper: pesto pasta (again, not great, but I need some comfort food tonight - I'm down 3 pounds in the last 2 days from all the stress of the injury and hospital visit, and I'm also still in a lot of pain)
Snack: I'll probably have some raspberries later

Thanks, Atomic - I've been trying to up my calories, but find it impossible to do it without making either my sodium or protein get way too high (surprisingly, I'm having more trouble keeping my protein low lately). Really, the only way I could do it would be to eat some empty calories like candy, and I can't imagine that's good for me (but I do it sometimes anyway).

Ok, Sunday so not a good day as we have family over...
Breakfast peppermint tea
Snack at 12 yogurt
Late lunch 1 bruschetta with mozzarella and one with broad beans. Pasta With tomato and chilli. Salad. White chocolate magnum (yum!!! And it was White chocolate)
Snack cracker bread with jam (this is my save as very little protein or calories!!!)
Sunday is always the hardest day for me as we are always with family, next week I will be a boring angel!!!!

zanacal
June 5th, 2011, 03:28 PM
Sounds good Swish - especially the white chocolate Magnum! Here's me today

Milk for coffees this morning
Lunch - half a jacket potato (I didn't think to leave the skin until I saw Atomic's recipe thread!) with grated cheese.
Snack - Grapes
Dinner - Spaghetti with mushrooms cooked in unsalted butter and 2 tbsp parmesan. Followed by apple pie and ice cream :D

We ate out at lunch time so I shared a potato with my toddler and asked to have no butter and the toppings on the side (they were rather confused by that!) - then I gave most of it to him (and the coleslaw, oh how I love coleslaw!). At dinner time I was going to watch everybody else eat their apple pie and ice cream but when I looked at the ingredients and the nutritional info I realised it was ok so I cut back on my pasta portion and this is actually the only day I've managed to stay under 40g protein! It was Tesco Value apple pie and it pretty much only had flour, water, sugar and apples in it - they obviously don't add too much to the cheap stuff!

Mochagirl
June 5th, 2011, 08:49 PM
Here's today:

Breakfast: apple juice, coffee (I normally avoid all juice, but the medication I'm taking for my back made me feel faint and I was worried my blood sugar was too low, so I drank some juice for a quick boost)

Lunch: plain, unsalted rice cake with no sugar added raspberry fruit spread + 1 small slice of low-fat swiss cheese + skim milk

Snack: a handful of fresh green beans (I like them best raw)

Supper: no-salt risotto (this was an experiment - I made it with unsalted butter, leaks, arborio rice, mushrooms, salt-free chicken broth, and a little white wine. I added a small amount of parm to mine and more to everyone else's. Boy, was it bland! DH couldn't even eat his, but surprisingly, the kids loved it! I think if I try it again I might marinate the mushrooms in balsamic before adding them to give them more taste)

Snack: I'm planning to have raspberries

I think I'm probably too low on calories today, but I did pretty well with sodium and protein, even with the chicken broth I added to the risotto. Maybe I'll even add some low-fat ice cream to my snack since it won't put me over my limits.

Hmm, I've messed up a bit today. I've not felt good all day, very light-headed and jittery, and after work I collected the boys from the childminder's and had to take them round the supermarket. When I got through the door I had to eat 'now'!! So here's what I've had so far:

Skimmed milk for coffee
Lunch - 2 bread with unsalted butter and sugar free jam, 2 caramel flavoured rice cakes, Activia fat free yogurt.
Dinner - Microwavable pouch of mushroom rice (see above!) and a Weight Watchers white chocolate ice-cream (I blame you for this Swish after you mentioned white chocolate Magnums!!).

So now I've had only about 900 calories, 25g of protein and 1200mg of sodium! I'm not too worried because I have at least half that amount of sodium most days but I need to find something high in calories and protein but no or little sodium for snack later. Looking down my list this includes rice, pasta or a glass of milk - I guess it'll have to be the milk as I'm not going to be cooking again later. Any ideas in the meantime let me know!

twosweetlads - I had some goodies cheese puffs on Saturday! Not bad when everybody else is munching on crisps :D

swish - Was the aubergine puree nice? Were you eating too much or too little pasta before?!

I've just had some strawberries with sweetener and a meringue nest (Tesco Finest meringue nests are yum btw!) as well as a glass of skimmed milk. Tomorrow will be the end of my first week on the girl diet and I'm excited to see how much weight I've lost!!

swish
June 6th, 2011, 03:49 PM
The aubergine puree was actually really nice!! Dh laughed at me as he ate his chicken in egg and breadcrumbs, pasta and broccoli!! It was a funny colour! I just roasted a whole aubergine in the oven for 40 mins, scooped out the middle and added a bit of lemon.
I was eating WAY too much pasta, I'm not calculating protein etc at all so I thought I should measure the pasta portion. Are the meringues good for the diet?

Zanacal, have you decided to drop the supplements? I'm thinking of doing it but it's a real leap of faith, I wish there were more people who had done it whikst swaying and got a girl

zanacal
June 6th, 2011, 05:55 PM
The meringues are just egg whites and sugar which I think is fine - only 52 cals, 0.6g protein and no salt and they're yum with strawberries and sweetener and a dollop of fat free yogurt or a bit of diet squirty cream :D

I'm still taking Vitex but I'm not taking anything else. I'll take an antihistimine and baby aspirin around our attempt. I would consider Saw P if I wasn't breastfeeding (I don't think I'm ready to stop but I really need to read more about Saw P to see what it does). I wish there was a magic testosterone lowering pill (perhaps that's the Saw P?!) because every time I read about traits of women with high testosterone I feel like they're describing me and I'm not sure anything I ever do will change that! The only other things I was taking were calcium and magnesium and I *think* I'm happy not to bother. I hate taking them because the pills are so big but I'm trying really hard not to let that be a part of my decision lol! I think the whole concept of swaying is a leap of faith and literally everybody takes calc/mag when swaying pink and it doesn't seem to be a deciding factor - lots have girls but lots don't. I don't think I'll ever wonder if it would have made a difference and I've spent far too long worrying about whether the supplements are safe to take in the first place which can't be good either.

Breakfast: coffee, CL
Lunch: plain white rice mixed with a bit of plain non-fat yogurt. Pretty bland, but for some reason my kids loved it when they asked to try some, and requested it for supper tonight!
Snack: Peppermint tea
Supper: skim milk, salad with balsamic vinegar and one piece of boconccini cheese + quiche made with a storebought pie shell (80mg of sodium per serving), eggs, milk, a bit of goat cheese, dried oregano and some cherry tomatoes. It was soooo yummy and one of the more satisfying meals I've had in a long time. It was surprisingly low in sodium, and fit well within my maximum allowance, especially because I kept sodium low the rest of the day. I'm working this one into my regular repertoire, and I'll just change the veggies I add for variety.
Snack: strawberries, peppermint tea

Thanks, swish - it was really yummy. Next time I might experiment with a crustless quiche or my own low-fat crust because it was pretty high in fat. What should our upper limit for fat be? I ended up with 35.4g yesterday, and 12g of that was the crust. Too much?

zanacal
June 7th, 2011, 10:52 AM
I keep having to stop and think about fat too Mochagirl because so many things don't seem too bad with regards to calories, protein and sodium and I don't always remember the fat - I'm not sure what a good limit would be?

I lost 6lb on my first week of the diet - woo hoo :D

I have no idea what to have for dinner tonight. When you have rice and yogurt together, do you mean hot rice and cold yogurt?!

Mochagirl
June 7th, 2011, 10:56 AM
Yep - I just steam some rice, add about 1/4 cup of plain yogurt and stir. It gives the rice a bit of a sour taste, which I like for a change. I suppose you could also put in some herbs or spices for flavour. One day I added some cumin so it tasted like Indian food.

I have no idea what to have for lunch today! I'm out of salt-free bread - I need to bake some this afternoon. I feel like I want more than a rice cake and some yogurt, but I don't want to use up any of my precious sodium quota on lunch. I need to have a tastier supper to look forward to or I'll go crazy!

2 unsalted rice cakes, grapes
Dinner - Bagel with unsalted butter and sugar free jam, a mini white chocolate weight watchers ice-cream, a glass of skimmed milk
Snack - Strawberries and meringue nest

Breakfast: coffee, peppermint tea
Lunch: 1 unsalted rice cake with an extremely thin layer of low fat peanut butter on top (I think it was maybe 1/2 teaspoon, so the sodium was very low - it definitely made the rice cake seem more substantial!), Yop yogurt drink, CL
Snack: 2 caramel corn rice cakes, peppermint tea
Supper: 1 cup orzo pasta with a simple sauce made from a few no-salt-added canned tomatoes, fennel, oregano and a bit of balsamic vinegar + parmesan, a slice of homemade no-salt bread with unsalted butter
Snack: raspberries, Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich (these are the low fat ice cream treats Atomic is always talking about. I'm pre-mentrual, and I NEEDED some chocolate - I've gotta say, these fit the bill without being too big a cheat)

Skimmed milk for coffees
Lunch - same as yesterday
Snack - 4 Ryvita Crackerbread with unsalted butter and sugar free jam
Dinner - Bagel with reduced fat houmous, strawberries and meringue nest, glass of skimmed milk

1130 cals, 38.5g protein, 1095mg sodium

Too much sodium again today. I've discovered that it's easy to stick to protein limits if I go for bread or bread products at each meal (makes a change from pasta too!) but sodium then becomes too much. Might have to start baking!

zanacal - I've been making the bread recipes from Tamara's girl cookbook (available free on IG) and my whole family likes them! The first loaf I made wasn't very successful - it was just flour, water and yeast YUCK! But her "Country Bread" recipe turned out quite yummy - I think it's the addition of a touch of sugar and an egg. I make it in my bread machine, so it's simple to do. The only thing I omit is the ascorbic acid, simply because I have no idea where to find it.

Mochagirl
June 8th, 2011, 07:40 PM
Tamara only lists the sodium content of the bread, which is 16mg per slice, but I used a very similar recipe in a bread machine cookbook I have to figure out the rest: 3g of protein and 98 calories.

Ok, here we go again:

Breakfast: peppermint tea, cappuccino (a friend was visiting)
Lunch: a warm layered salad brought over by a friend: roasted sweet potato ****s topped with fresh baby spinach and crumbled goat cheese, with balsamic vinegar drizzled on top. It was sooooo yummy and sooooo satisfying, yet well within my sodium and protein limits. I also had a glass of skim milk.
Snack: slice of watermelon
Supper: grilled 4oz chicken breast on salt-free bread with a slice of swiss cheese and 1 TBSP mayo. Also a bit of asparagus and cucumber on the side. Fruit salad (made by my kids) for dessert.
Snack: raspberries and a cinnamon bun  My friend brought them over this morning, and they've been taunting me all day. My calories were so low today that I thought I'd take a plunge and have one.

Calories: 1,043 (even with the 230 calorie cinnamon bun!)

Lol at the chocolate tart swish! Pasta doesn't tip me over the protein unless it's a day when I've also had cheese in my sandwich and a yogurt after lunch - yogurt seems to be the worst for protein!

The pizza sounds yum Purplepoet!

Today I had:

2 coffees with skimmed milk and sweetener
Lunch: A corn tortilla with dairylea light spread, lettuce, cucumber and a couple of cherry tomatoes (really enjoyed this!), bowl of strawberries and sweetener
Snack: 2 Unsalted rice cakes with sugar free jam
Dinner: Pasta with quark, slice of toast and unsalted butter, meringue nest, Weight Watchers white chocolate ice-cream

Cals: 978 Protein: 43g Sodium: 780mg Fat: 21g

My fat was really low all day apart from my unsalted butter/spread I had on my toast - 8g a serving! I'm going to try and find an alternative next time I do the shopping. I started taking Chitosan again today, found one without all the extras added.

I'm actually sat here starving but I've had all my meals. I might have something as my cals are so low today and I know I won't be eating again until lunch time tomorrow! No idea what though, something with very little protein in it!

Swish - I think we'll all get to a point where we can't lose anymore weight and still be healthy. I'm down to 122, which is lower than I've been in more than 15 years. Even if I don't lose anymore weight, I'll feel satisfied that I did a good job.

Zanacal, do you mean you wouldn't bother with chitosan? The reason I did in first place was as fibre to help keep me moving!!! Do you think I should just ditch it?
Mocha, I didn't ever weigh myself before this, had to buy scales!!! There is a chance I weighed snout this weight for one of boys but I really don't know. So I'm not sure whether to drop to about 107 which would definately be my lower ttc date or if this is too low as I would be underweight...

Here's today's food:

Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: 3 pieces of curd cheese (my favourite, but I was careful to keep within the 30g serving, and even then it pretty much took half of my fat and sodium allowance for the day), 1/2 piece of salt-free bread, 1/2 cup strawberries, 1 sugar free yogurt (I really can't stand this stuff - I think I'm going to switch back to non-fat sugared yogurt since I need the extra calories anyway) + CL
Supper: orzo pasta mixed with unsalted butter and parmesan, steamed yellow beans
Snack: More strawberries!

I forgot my peppermint tea today because I was outside most of the day. DS hasn't nursed in 3 nights now, so maybe I should start taking Saw Palmetto....
Calories: 1,084
Fat: 22.6g (I'm happy with this - if it weren't for the curd cheese (which was a one-time thing), I would have been well within the 20g daily limit)
Protein: 45g (the pasta is what did me in today. I had two servings (larger servings than 1/2 cup - I used the guidelines on the box) because I was so hungry, and it came in at 22g of protein! I might as well have had meat tonight!)
Sodium: 482.6mg

Why, oh why do I have such an easy time reducing sodium and such a hard time reducing protein??!!

swish - I was referring to the Chitosan but I was thinking of it as a weight loss aid rather than as something to move you along. I don't know enough to advise whether I think you should take it or not - sorry!

Here's me for the day:

1 tea and 1 coffee with skimmed milk and sweetener
Lunch: Corn wrap with Dairylea Light (again!) and Activia fat free rasperry yogurt
Dinner: 3 mini white pittas with a dollop of low fat houmous and some cucumber and red pepper sticks, 2 unsalted rice cakes with sugar free jam and a glass of skimmed milk
Snack: Strawberries with a meringue nest

Calories - 843 (ie. not enough!)
Protein - 41g
Sodium - 962mg

Any ideas of something I could have later that has calories and nothing else in it? The only thing I can think of is Vodka!!

Seriously, though, if anyone out there has ideas on how to add calories without adding protein, fat or sodium, I'm all ears....

Breakfast: coffee

Lunch: salt-free bread toasted with 1/2 tbsp of low fat peanut butter spread on it (this seemed soooo decadent, yet it was only half a serving and so the protein and sodium weren't too high), CL

Snack: peppermint tea

Supper: My kids have been begging for tacos, so I made a girl-friendly version. I used ground chicken, and was planning to use the fajita seasoning recipe from Tamara's cookbook, but got lazy and bought low sodium El Paso taco seasoning instead. I figured it would be ok because I'd be eating so little of it. I made two tiny tacos on sodium-free corn tortillas, and topped them with plain yogurt, fresh salsa and shredded low sodium Swiss cheese. I only used about a TBSP of chicken in each taco, and so was able to keep my protein low. Did it taste like a real taco? Not really, but it was ok and the bit of sodium in the seasoning made it feel like a treat. I also had some rice milk to drink. Shortly after supper I realised I'd only eaten like 500 calories today, so I quickly tried to think of things to add to the calories. I still had lots of room with sodium and protein, which is rare, so I had a Pop Tart, a yogurt AND a glass of skim milk.

Snack: I'm also planning to have some strawberries in a bit.

So, not a great day all in all. I ended up eating too little. I think my mistake was not enough variety (and for some reason, no veggies today). I meant to eat more for lunch but was in the backyard with the kids and forgot to go back in to get something else until too much time had passed and I was in 'snack' territory.

Fruit! :agree:

Don't fear the nutrients, on such a low caloric intake the nutrients count less than if you're eating more. And you guys CAN'T be getting enough potassium on such a low food intake, so the fruit will help with potassium too.

Candy is also an idea.

Mocha you are making a GREAT point here. TINY servings of things are ok. Like fat free refried beans, peanut butter, etc. if you eat a small amount, you can easily include these in your diet now and then and stay within your nutrient guidelines for the day.

Of anything, I suspect that sodium is the least important. People seem to ahve an unlimited taste for salt so I think it's somewhat unlikely that superlow sodium intake is required to TTC pink, it's just that since it seemed to be in line with both thge FGD and the Oxford study, it seems smart to include it.

I also found pure chitosan today and took it before dinner, are you meant to ake it 30 mins before you eat. I'm wondering if it's a good idea as I'm now down to 110 lbs, do you think it's a good idea to continue to drop weight, I'm really not sure, I'm nit underweight yet but nearly!!!

It won't affect calories from carbs anyway, only cals from fat. I do think it's worth it to continue taking it, if only for regularity! OMG the girl diet is so constipating.

Well I'm glad you say sodium is least important Atomic because I've just completely screwed up on my dinner! While I was buying the gluten free pasta I spotted some gluten free pizza bases but I misread the packet and they had 1100mg each - they weren't even very nice! So here's me today:

100ml skimmed milk for coffees

Lunch: corn tortilla with slice of low fat processed cheese and salad. 1 peeled apple. 1 pop tart (still yuck!).

Dinner: Gluten free pizza base, 1 tbsp tomato puree, low fat cheddar and vegetables. Weight watchers white chocolate ice-cream.

I still have my snack to go but so far have had:

931 cals
26g protein
1980mg sodium - dear oh dear!!

Oh and I tried a vodka and cranberry last night and ended up tipping most of it down the sink!

Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: caramel corn rice cake, Yop yogurt drink, a few strawberries and a few cherry tomatoes
Snack: 1/4 of a bagel and cream cheese. This wasn't really a snack, but sort of an early dinner as we were out of town for the day and only started driving back at supper time. I bought the kids bagels and cream cheese and stole 1/4 of one of them (and scraped off much of the cream cheese) to keep me going until I got home.
Supper: rice pasta with stewed tomatoes and parmesan, skim milk, Pop Tart for dessert
Snack: strawberries

This was my first time trying the rice pasta. I liked it a lot - with tomato sauce on it, I couldn't tell the difference. One thing I noticed that the serving size on the package was quite small. I made 3 'servings' and when I measured it it was only 1 cup. The protein was still lower than regular pasta, though with a total of 12g in the 3 servings I ate. The tomatoes I used for the sauce had sodium (I was hungry and in too much of a rush to make my own sauce), so I used half a serving and was still able to keep within my limits. It was quite tasty!

I am clueless as to how to keep the weight on with this diet-still! I am thinking of cutting my magnesium out completely-in accordance with the low nutrient theory (I am taking about 100 mg/day), as I wonder if it is flushing my system-for me, trying to maintain, let alone gain weight, is near impossible.

here is what I ate yesterday, ( this was a "bad day" as I don't normally eat pizza, wine, or the bagel twist, but thought I'd throw caution to the wind for ONE day since I am in the 2ww and desperate to gain wt)

8 AM peppermint tea
10:30am cinnamon raisin bagel twist with 1/2 of a 1/2 decaf coffee with cream and equal
1pm 1 small piece of pizza (not normally on my diet but I was at my son's birthday party!) usually I would have something else here, like toast with sugarfree jam and unsalted butter
3pm huge sandwich with homemade low salt bread, 2 slices low salt cheese, smidgeon of hummus and Tblsp. tahini, sliced, skinned cucumbers and butter lettuce, unsalted butter, about 8 lowfat potato chips
1 caffeine free diet pepsi
snack: 2 caramel rice cakes
8PM dinner: large salad with about 8 chick peas, a few raw almonds, a slice of red pepper, 1 tsp. shredded parm, 2 mushrooms and about 2 tsp. poppy seed dressing
large bowl (2 cups) pasta cooked in almost no salt and some oil with 1 tsp unsalted butter and 3 T ricotta,a sprinkle of parm and about 15 edamame
10 PM dessert: 1 cup vanilla greek yogurt (nonfat) with 1/4 cup raspberries and 2 equal packets
1 more cup peppermint tea
glass of red wine ( haven't drunk in 4 weeks but I'm so desperate to gain wt. I figured WTH!!!)
dasani

I usually have a big piece of homemade toast with a mixture of sugarfree and regular jam in place of the erroneous items (pizza, wine etc.).

I am still 85 pounds, can't get higher on the above caloric intake- so I may have to think of something else to eat soon. I am starting to think I should add a glass of wine back in... or as Atomic said some sort of candy? I need empty calories at this point. I occasionally eat string beans with butter...I was eating pop-tarts but discovered they have gelatin in the frosting and I am vegetarian so I am nixing those.

And in reading the studies, if I am pregnant or do get pregnant I fear I still will have done all the wrong things for the diet, every time I turn around I find that maybe I shouldn't be eating something I just did-AGH!

BLAAAA do not cut magnesium out all together!!! You NEED 250-300 mg of magnesium (which most of us easily get via diet, even on the TTC girl diet) just for SURVIVAL. I wouldn't supplement but there is NO need and in fact it's a terrible idea to try and eliminate the magnesium in your food.

Please realize there is a huge difference in the nutrients contained in multivitamins and those that you get via foods. AT that level of caloric intake, you don't need to worry about nutrients. Besides, the macronutrients of protein and fat sway a lot "harder" than any one of the micronutrients anyway.

Your diet would be perfect if you didn't weigh 85 pounds to begin with, even with the pizza and the bagel. Anyone else I would just be telling them they were doing great. Please try not to worry and just keep eating exactly what you're eating only in larger quantities. Eat a bit more hummus, a few more chickpease, more strawberries, use sugar in place of some of the artificial sweeteners and don't worry about the pizza or the bagel. Wine? Why not, a day or three a week.

Candy is dandy! And if you're vegetarian anyway, you're already doing a lot to sway pink just from your day to day diet.

There is no need at all to worry about every scrap of food that you put in your mouth

OK I should have clarified, I was referring to cutting out the supplemental magnesium. I am worried it is causing me to go to the bathroom too much. Could it be something else, like the calcium supp? I am still eating tahini and getting whatever magnesium in the above diet. I am trying to get DS to eat more and nurse less, but he's not really taken with the idea, and overcompensates at night.

Thanks so much for your input, I'll keep my diet as is,maybe add the occasional wine, but was trying to keep low sodium low potassium, and make sure my pH stayed low-Is the theory that the high magnesium is keeping my pH low, or is it the low potassium/sodium, or both? I am considering cutting out the calcium supplement as well but not sure if I should. As you can see I drink no milk but am getting calcium from yogurt and cheese...

Do you mean towards boy? Problem is, if I return to my previous diet (pre-swaying) it would have way more sodium and potassium. Maintaining wt, let alone gaining it on either the IG or low-everything diet is obviously meant to be hard!

Hi ladies, today was Day 1 with my in-laws visiting, but I think I did pretty well anyway:

Breakfast: coffee with a little skim milk
Lunch: rice with a little light hummus mixed in (this actually wasn't very tasty - I prefer it with plain yogurt mixed in)
Supper: This is where I got creative. I was making BBQ hamburgers for everyone, so I made a portobello mushroom burger for myself. I marinated the mushroom in balsamic, a bit of olive oil, oregano and pepper, then grilled it. I topped it with a slice of low fat provolone cheese and put it on a low sodium bun (it was actually pretty high in sodium, but the lowest ones I could find in the store - 210mg) with a little mayo. It was DELICIOUS, and no one even noticed I was eating something different. I also had a salad with balsamic vinegar on the side
Dessert: I was feeling so good after my yummy dinner and noticed I was still well within my intake limits for the day, so I treated myself to one of the chocolate chip cookies they all had for dessert. MMmmmmmm chocolate. This was definitely a HUGE treat, and not something I'd have very often.
Snack: Strawberries

Calories: 993
Fat: 26.1 (I would have been under 20 if it hadn't been for that cookie....)
Protein: 29.6
Sodium: 687mg

I have been feeling a lot better about my diet lately since I realised that I am always way under the 700-1000 mg limit for sodium. I've started introducing very small portions of salty food (like hummus, peanut butter, and provolone cheese) into my diet. It seems so decadent after weeks of eating flavourless food, yet I'm still keeping well within the target range. My mushroom burger tonight was so yummy that I think I'm going to keep eating them instead of regular burgers sometimes after this whole diet is done.

My protein intake was too high but the rest i guess was within limits.

And any week day for me is like this and itīs very boring!:
6.30 peppermint tea
10.30 decaf skimmed milk latte
12.30 lunch iceberg lettuce with raw mushrooms and balsamico dressing, one plain serving of couscous, or gluten free pasta. Activia low fat yoghurt and a small decaf skimmed latte.
16.00 peppermint tea
18.30 dinner rice with leeks or grilled eggplant/zucchini with couscous or glutenfree pasta

1)Oh duh, some days I read a LOT of posts and sometimes my brain gets damaged LOL. YES magnesium can make you go #2 a lot but usually at higher dosages than 100. I would still cut it out (over the period of a couple weeks) because of the low nutrient idea. I would also phase out the calcium supp but I totally understand that people don't feel comfy with that.

2)The pH stuff and the mineral stuff are two different theories. Some people try and make them link together by twisting and stretching the facts half to death, but they don't because calcium actually tends to make people's pH RISE.

Mineral theory - cal/mag attract X sperm to the egg via ions (PLEASE NOTE that I do not believe this theory, just saying what the theory is.)

pH theory - X and Y sperm "like" different pH and Y sperm is "frozen" by low pH. (Again, I do not buy this theory - although I do think pH can sway at least a bit by killing off sperm)

3)Yes, towards boy. Protein and fat tend to sway blue especially when eaten with a lot of carbs. Personally I think you're just not eating enough calories to replace what you're burning off. Protein doesn't make people gain weight very easily, it's carbs and fat that do that. I would like to see you upping your carbs to gain weight because I think that's the "safest" for pink sway. I am not sure that eating MORE fat than normal is the best thing to do for pink but you may have no choice in the matter if that's the only way you can gain.

4)If you make your own hummus without salt, that's the best option. Of anything, I think the sodium sways least (because people have an unlimited taste for salt, I seriously doubt that of all the baby girls conceived every day, that ALL or even most of their moms were eating barely any salt.)

5)You don't NEED artificial sweeteners. Again, of all the baby girls who have ever been conceived, most were long before the advent of artificial sweeteners!!! If you want to continue eating htem, that's fine, I'm just saying that sugar has a lot of calories in it with no protein, no fat, and it may even help with your blood sugar by contributing to a sugar crash.

6)Yes, being tested after eating will cause your glucose numbers to rise. It is totally normal for there to be fluctuations in your blood sugar levels. Blood sugar level of 102 is just fine.

Snack: Ryvita crackerbread with sugar free jam, Organix Sweetcorn Rings (baby crisps!), skimmed milk

I'll be weighing in in the morning, don't feel like I've lost much this week though.

I find I want sweets more than usual too, but I sure do miss my salt. I sometimes find I keep eating sweets to try to get rid of my salt craving and end up unsatisfied with a lot of empty calories.

2)The pH stuff and the mineral stuff are two different theories. Some people try and make them link together by twisting and stretching the facts half to death, but they don't because calcium actually tends to make people's pH RISE.

Thanks for all the thorough answers Atomic, I did not realize I was basically swaying under the premise of two different theories ( I think I am still sort of used to the IG stuff as that was what I had first absorbed and they obviously believe in 7 factors, etc.)

Sounds like you take more stock in MDT and testosterone more than anything else, but if so, why is diet still the most important-for reducing testosterone rather than pH?

re: the calcium, did not realize it could raise pH! I am relieved I have not drunk milk-at least my pH stayed low through O with the calcium I was taking...will wean off of it if I need to. I was only taking between 400-600 mg supplemental calcium, and I feel good that my blood sugar was 102 after eating, so thanks for allaying my fears about that. I have been keeping my sodium low but will possibly ease up on that too should I turn out to not be pg after all.

Thank you for the tip on the hummus! Looking back at my diet , I don't think I have been eating too much fat, or at least probably not more than I was eating before, because I was not eating chips, lots of cheese, and other salty things with added fat, so the fat I added was to non-fat items (fat -free carbs or the occasional low nutrient salad).

I obviously am burning more than I am consuming since there is no evidence of a thyroid problem. I have had a tough time accepting this since I feel like I eat tons! I will keep working on it-thank you as always for your sage advice!

My second day with the in-laws visiting wasn't great diet-wise. I don't know if it's because of af, but I was feeling weak and sleepy all afternoon, so I kept eating to try to make myself feel better.

Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: Yogurt, 1 slice low-fat Swiss cheese, green grapes, unsalted rice cake, Pop Tart (this was added after lunch when I realised I was still starving even though I'd just eaten)
Snack: small slice low-fat Swiss cheese
Supper: Quiche in a store-bought crust (low in sodium, but high in fat, unfortunately), salad with balsamic vinegar, 1 slice low-salt homemade bread (I used my salt-free recipe but added 1/4 tsp salt so it wouldn't taste weird to my guests)....then I lost all willpower when they started eating dessert and I had a quarter of a slice of blueberry pie with a bit of low-fat ice cream on the side.

Calories: 1,042
Fat: 40.7g :sigh: (it was the two pie crusts that killed me here)
Protein: 34.2g
Sodium: 747.4

I think I need to start eating a more substantial lunch so I'm not so starved by supper time. It was terrible tonight because we didn't eat until 8:30pm, and since I'd eaten my paltry lunch at 12, it was a loooong wait for more food. I might have been able to pass over the pie if it weren't for that. At least I'm so stuffed now that I'm not doing my usual evening snacking.

Indira - I made sure to buy my least favourite flavour of pie, and I'm not a huge pie fan to begin with, so I was able to restrain myself. If it had been something chocolate there's no way I could have resisted having a huge portion. I think I did well on everything yesterday except fat - it was twice my target amount of 20g! It's amazing to me that even with all that indulgence yesterday, my calories were still way too low, and my protein and sodium were well within the limits. I guess I could have had some milk yesterday - I was avoiding it because I knew I'd be having quiche for supper. I have a tendency to deprive myself all day so that I can have a yummy supper, but sometimes I overdo it.

I do the same with all the food I give my kids and dh - I make them meals they love but that I'm so-so about - things like fish sticks, sausages, mac and cheese, that way it's not as hard to eat my plain pasta. So basically, pizza has been banned in the house since I started the diet - that's one thing I'd NEVER be able to say no to! The best part is the kids are trying some of the special meals I make myself and they love them!

How have you guys felt doing the low everything diet? How has your sugar levels been or how has the highs and lows been? I have decided to pretty much do the IG number in fear of the highs and lows of my sugar and that with me when I eat a lot of carbs I don't stop...lol

My glucose both times was at 80 (65-99 was the normal range) after eating a large meal and a lot of carbs (I cheated those days , when I didn't know what was going on, so my sugars seem to be doing well), but it still makes me nervous to eat all those carbs and my sugars going through the roof and staying there.

The one meal (dinner) I have my carbs rice and pasta, I do my exercise 30-60 minutes later. Exercise helps you regulate your blood sugar.

Mochagirl
June 14th, 2011, 11:57 AM
I've been doing alright with the blood sugar lows. I always carry something sweet with me when I'm out and about with the boys just in case I start to feel faint (there's a history of diabetes in my family, and though I don't show any signs of it yet, I have fainted from low blood sugar a couple of times in my life). I'm finding this diet far easier to follow than the IG one since it allows so many more foods. Balsamic vinegar has been a gift - it helps so many otherwise bland foods taste good - even my kids have started saying "Everything tastes better with balsamic vinegar on it! :)"

I'm not including exercise as part of my sway, and I have no idea what my carb-heavy supper is doing to my blood sugar, but I know I'm getting several hours of low blood sugar overnight and through the morning + in the afternoon after a light lunch, so I'm hoping that's enough.

I'm finding the diet surprisingly easy (although ask me after 2 months rather than 2 weeks and I might say something else!). I thought no breakfast would be hell but I've got used to it. I get really, really hungry mid morning but I have a coffee with sweetener and that sees me through until lunch. I'm also very hungry before dinner and often when I go to bed - but strangely enough not gagging for breakfast in the morning. I kind of like that I get hungry, I'd almost forgotten what that felt like! If I was doing this diet simply to lose weight then I've no doubt I'd cheat but because the reason is bigger than that I'm not tempted.

I never thought skipping breakfast would be so easy. I agree that the diet is easier than I thought - especially for someone who's never dieted a day in her life! However, I am finding it harder and harder to fight the urge to snack in the late afternoon and evening. I'm used to grazing on food all day long, so having little meals and nothing in between (especially when those meals are boring) is tough. I just keep the ultimate goal in mind and try my best not to cheat. This week has been tough with my in-laws here, snacking all day and eating lots of taboo foods in front of me. Right at this moment my stomach is rumbling and I keep checking the clock to see if it's late enough for me to start cooking supper (not quite yet - it's only 4pm here).

I've already started counting down the days until I can test and hopefully get that BFP. I've been on the diet about 5 weeks now, and I am soooo ready to be done with it. I know if I don't get a BFP this month I'm going to be seriously depressed.

Mochagirl, I often have my dinner at 4pm on this diet!

Here's me today:

Skimmed milk for coffees
Lunch: Cheese and cucumber sandwich, 2 caramel rice cakes
Dinner: Gluten free pasta, courgettes, leeks, mushrooms and cheese sauce
Supper: Weight Watchers individual victoria sponge cake

I managed to get a few more calories in today with having pasta for dinner (just under 1300) - I think I need that to be able to lose weight. I've dieted a lot over the years (I'm a serial yo-yoer!) and I know that not eating enough stops me from losing. Silly hey?!

Mochagirl

Another not-so-great day since I'm cooking for guests and can't get away with my normal, bland diet

Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: 1/2 piece leftover quiche from last night, strawberries, milk
Snack: peppermint tea, strawberries
Supper: Scallop chowder. I tried my best to make this as girl-friendly as possible: I used sodium-free chicken broth as the base and didn't add any extra salt, but I couldn't avoid the bacon and onions the recipe calls for. I tried to make sure my bowl had hardly any bacon or onions in it, and I also only took 3 scallops. I was able to keep the protein and sodium low enough with a small portion, but it was way too high in fat because of the bacon and the cream I used to make it. Everyone else had pie for dessert, and though I managed to avoid having any, I did end up eating 2 digestive biscuits when I was craving something sweet while cleaning up.

Snack: Strawberries

Calories: 1,039
Fat: 40.3g (really not happy with this)
Sodium: 911.7mg
Protein: 41.9g

I think I need to make sure I have a lower fat day tomorrow since I've had two high fat days in a row. The in-laws want us to go to brunch tomorrow morning, which I need to find a way to get out of since they'll definitely notice if I don't order any food. They're going to a play out of town tomorrow evening and I'm encouraging dh (who is going with them) to suggest they go there early and eat dinner there instead of here - that way I could have some plain pasta for dinner and get back on track with the diet. I'll be so relieved when they leave - it makes it so much harder to keep to the diet!

I think you're doing great under the circumstances Mochagirl :D

Today I had:

Skimmed milk
Lunch: cheese slice and cucumber sandwich, 2 caramel rice cakes
Dinner: Rice with chopped cucumber, cherry tomatoes and pepper and light salad cream. WW individual victoria sponge cake.
Snack: 4 ryvita crackerbread with phili light with spring onion and black pepper, low fat rice pudding

About 1200 cals again, 40ish g protein and 900mg sodium.

Does anybody know if spring onions are ok? I'm sorry I can't think of the word used for them in the US - swish? I know onions are not ok but leeks are and they seem more like little leeks!

Breakfast Peppermint tea
Lunch Toast with jam, actimel and muller light yogurt
Snack green beans - yum, yum!!!
Dinner pasta with leeks, mushrooms, butter and Parmesan
A few sugar free sweets!!!
Hopefully I'm in the right amounts - I'm spreading my butter thinly on 2 pieces of toast and having a teaspoons worth with my pasta. Do you think that's too much? I've never worked out the fat and am wondering if it's ok - I feel like I'm stressing more about food as the attempt gets nearer!!!

Zanacal and swish, sounds like you're both doing great. Swish - just for reference, according to FitDay, a pat of unsalted butter (which they define as a 1" square, 1/3" high) has 4 g of fat. I got a free pass today because I got out of brunch with the in-laws and they've decided to go out for dinner before the play they're seeing tonight. I'm trying to get back on track with the diet. So far today I had a slice of bread with unsalted butter and some strawberries, and I'm STARVING!! It's 3:30, and I need to try to hold out at least an hour and a half before supper or I'll be snacking all night, but the 200 calories I've has so far today just aren't cutting it.

I'm starting to obsess about fat too. Now that I finally have protein and sodium well under control, fat seems to be my big challenge. Even with the tiny amount of food I've had today, I'm up to 9g of fat (I blame the cappuccino I had with a friend this morning), which means I basically can't add any fat to my pasta tonight if I want to still keep my fatty parmesan, which is 10g of fat per serving. I'm not sure what to eat that won't push me over the 20g fat limit, especially when I'm so starved I'm contemplating eating a huge bowl of gluten free pasta. I know if I put tomato sauce on it I could get away with less parm, but I'm starting to worry I'm eating too many tomatoes now that I've finally started including them in my diet - I've had tomatoes in some form almost every day for the past several days. I think they're still on the 'include with moderation' list for the low everything diet, right?

I've decided I won't be testing pH again either. I have a couple of types of strips and can't for the life of me figure them out. The colour never seems to change from one time to the next! It's just giving me something to stress about so I'll leave it.

swish - how many calories are you eating? It doesn't seem like you're eating much at all! I can't imagine you're eating too much fat even if there's a fair bit in the butter and you're being careful with that anyway.

Rainbow, I don't test ph either, I didn't want to waste money on the expensive kit plus it sounded complicated and my test strips don't really change colour either!!!
Zanacal, I have no idea how many calories I eat, I just eat practically the same thing every day as I find it easier to control! I'm now down to 7 stone 9 which is seriously low for me and definately my lowest pre conceiving weight so now I think I should maintain my weight but I've no idea how to do that without messing up the protein thing. It hurts my head to think about it so I just stick to eating the same things, if only we were allowed chocolate!!!! The weirdest thing is no-one has noticed which is odd as in the past if I've dropped a tiny bit people have tried to stuff me with chocolate and this is what i was dreading but it hasn't happened! Maybe I don't look different, who knows!!!!!

11-3 about a cup of pasta sauce, had to taste it to make sure it was safe for the family ;)
3pm - 2 servings of buttersctoch brownie  again had to make sure it was good tasting to DS1
6pm - pasta sauce on noodles... I will limit it to 1 1/2 serv of noodles and sauce but no sausage.

Tomorrow I am eating nothing but salad... the weekend is going to be hell we are going to Las Vegas Thurs night until Monday afternoon. I know we will be eating buffets, Thai, pizza, and a ton of crap. Maybe I ca control myself only a few weeks until we TTC.

I don't know why I'm so hungry today! I JUST finished eating quite a generous supper, and my stomach is still growling! Here's how today looked:

Breakfast: 1/2 cup coffee then a cappuccino with a friend
Lunch: low-salt bread with unsalted butter, strawberries
Snack: I had a few strawberries here and there as the day wore on since everyone else was eating cookies. I also had some peppermint tea to try to stop my stomach from grumbling
Supper: about 2.5 portions of regular pasta (I actually thought I needed the protein today because I only had 6g during the day) with commercial low-sodium tomato sauce (I had lots of room in my daily sodium allowance for this and I wanted something tastier than the usual) + parmesan cheese + a handful of fresh green beans
Snack: probably more strawberries, though I'm sooooo tempted to have one of the Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches I have in the freezer.

I'm also starting to worry that I'm not eating enough calcium. I've virtually eliminated milk from my diet because I found it impossible to limit myself to keep to 40g of protein while including it. Some days I have yogurt, but didn't today. According to Fit Day, I've taken in about 537mg of calcium today + 1000mg from my supplements - I know this is within the RDA for calcium, but I can't get past the thought that every other girl diet out there includes tons of calcium. Some days I feel great about not including milk, other days I second guess myself. Anyone else out there conflicted about this?

Calories: 1087
Fat: 22.7g
Protein: 40.3g
Sodium: 560.4mg

That Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich I'm craving has 140 calories, 1.5g fat, 3g of protein and 100mg of sodium in it - I'm already slightly over both my fat and protein allowance for the day, so I'm going to try my hardest not to have it, but it's so hard to ignore the fact that I'm soooooo hungry right now and it's only 7:40pm!

Hi mocha, I'm also really conflicted about calcium, I've stopped taking the supplements as I feel if I am going for lie everything it doesn't make sense to take the supplements. I am nervous about it but I do think it's the right decision for me!!! I hope so!!! I have a yogurt every day and occasionally a glass of milk but I would say my calcium intake is probably lower than before. Aaah!!! I'm just keeping my fingers crossed now!!!!

I feel the same way, swish - conflicted. Atomic's theory about calcium totally makes sense to me (and I think her research is sound), but it's sooooo hard to ignore the fact that calcium has been a big part of every other sway for a long time. If you go to IG they're all still talking about drinking milk and eating yogurt all day long, so it feels weird to go a whole day with not one yogurt or glass of milk. Oh well, if I've managed to get over my fear of potatoes and tomatoes, maybe I can get over this too.

I agree - adding tons of extra protein and fat to your diet through dairy doesn't seem to be the answer, especially, as atomic points out, because much of the world doesn't or can't eat dairy, yet they still have lots of girls. I'm starting to suspect that losing weight is going to be the biggest factor. My weight this morning was 120 - nearly 10 lbs lower than my weight when I started this diet! That weight changes depending on what time of day I weigh myself, but that's definitely the lowest I've seen it since I was maybe 16.

zanacal
June 16th, 2011, 12:26 PM
Well done Mochagirl! You guys are all so slim to begin with :D How did you eat before the girl diet?

Today I've had:

Skimmed milk for coffees
Lunch: Wrap with extra light cheese spread and cucumber, Viennese Whirl!
Dinner: GF Pasta with extra light cheese spread (this was so boring I couldn't even finish it!). Apple and blackberry pie with squirty cream :D
Snack: Strawberries with WW vanilla yogurt

1280 cals, 34g protein, 680mg sodium, 25g fat

I was worried about too much fat (I forgot to check before I had the Viennese Whirl and the pie and cream!!) but I found a calculator for how much fat you should consume - you take the calories x 0.35 / 9. So for 1200 calories this would be 47g and 25g is definitely much less than that!! Any idea whether we should be watching saturated fat or just fat overall?

Mochagirl
June 16th, 2011, 01:01 PM
I've started to worry that 20g of fat isn't enough to stay healthy. I did some googling, and found lots of articles that said 30g is a good guideline if you really need to lose weight, but that 20g isn't enough. I don't know about saturated fat, but I imagine we want as little as possible. I don't want to reduce my fat so much I don't ovulate! I already noticed my period was waaaaay lighter than usual this cycle, which worries me. Atomic - if you're still checking in on this thread, can you advise us on a good target for fat intake?

My diet before this was lots of treats - pizza, pasta with fatty sauces, salty snacks, and lots of chocolate, but I've never eaten steadily all day. I might have one HUGE meal a day (that probably had a full day's calories, fat, etc. in one meal), but would have smaller meals and fruity snacks throughout the day. My weight has always hovered around 130 lbs when not pregnant, but I've also been nursing steadily for 4 years between my twins and ds3, so that's probably helped control my weight. I gained 75 lbs in my twin pregnancy and about 40-45 lbs with ds3. I've never dieted and never really exercised, other than lots of walking for fun.

Oh mocha, I've also really started to worry about not ovulating after a post today, I don't know how to increase my calories without increasing protein, did you have any joy with that? Also if we can increase fat, what should we have? Cheese?
Zanacal, before ttc girl I ate whatever I liked and always stayed between 8 stone 4 to 8 stone 8. I did have a naturally healthy diet but just snacked whenever I liked and ate quite large meals - a complete mixture of pasta, potatoes, chicken, fish but not much red meat and lots of cheese!!!! Looking back I think it was quite a high protein diet. Oh, I can't wait to eat normally again..I've made dh arrabiatta fir dinner and it smells delicious!!!!!

You beat me to the punch, swish - I was going to do the same thing. That same post scared me too! Atomic never responded to my post asking that question in the private members area, so maybe she'll see your post instead.

The more I think of it, my diet was probably high protein too. I have always eaten lots and lots of cheese - for almost every meal.

It's tricky to add calories without messing up the other parts of our diet. I've started eating a lot more real sugar - candy, sugared fat-free yogurt. I think I might try some low-fat low-sodium baking to see if I can come up with some recipes that will add calories but not protein or fat. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

I think the dairy theroy is mixed up.... the cows were not given milk they were given calcium supps, a big difference!

Depended on the milk you get and what the cow ate - you either get a boy friendly milk or in some cases a girl friendly milk. Also dairy products have added things in it like when Atomic said to find out what is in your milk. Certain fruits, veggies, and grasses have a high amount of different vitamins but also very high amounts of Vita D. If the cows are eating grass which I know they are it has tons of vitamin D (during warmer mths) they will have less if the cows were eating grass during the winter mths. Even if you got unfortified milk it will still have vita/supps from the food or fed that the cow ate.

I think the best thing is to get calcium from supps. A nursing mom needs a min of 1200mg a day the same that a women would need if she was TTC or already preg, I am taking 2,000mg a day.

Here's today's menu:

Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: 1/2 bagel with 1/2 tbsp low fat peanut butter, Activia non-fat yogurt, strawberries - I was very excited to discover that Montreal-style bagels, which are much smaller and sweeter than the standard NY style ones have only 80g of sodium in them! Having half a bagel with peanut butter felt indulgent and made me feel more full than I usually do at lunch, but it fell well within the diet.
Snack: strawberries
Supper: portabello mushroom burger with provolone cheese and mayo on a low sodium bun, a warm salad made with roasted sweet potato, baby spinach, goat cheese and balsamic vinegar. For dessert I had some homemade strawberry crumble (made with a bit of unsalted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and oats) with some low fat ice cream. Yum!
Snack: surprise! More strawberries (good thing they're my favourite fruit and they're in season right now!)

Calories: 1060
Fat: 35.1g (oops - not a great fat day - I blame that strawberry crumble!)

The great news is that was the last meal I have to cook for the in-laws - they're leaving early tomorrow morning. The bad news is, my Mom has decided to visit next week right around ovulation time! :suprise: Now, don't get me wrong - I LOVE my Mom and even told her a little about my diet, but she doesn't know the extent of it, so I'm no doubt going to end up cheating a bit while she's here. Also, it's going to be tricky to dtd nightly when she's sleeping down the hall! Here's hoping the Vitex doesn't delay O and it comes on time on June 21st. If that happens, O will be done before she gets here and I can loosen the diet somewhat because it will be the 2WW (yes, I know that blood sugar is still an important factor in the 2WW, and I think I can still manage that part of it with her here).

Mochagirl your supper and that strawberry crumble makes me want to have breakfast! Thatīs sounds really yummy.
Congrats on your in-laws leaving lol, since your mother knows somewhat about the diet I think you are going to go well, you did a great job with the in-laws.

Breakfast peppermint tea
Lunch actimel, toast and jam and thorntons diabetic fudge bar - this was seriously delicious, I did share it with ds2 (reluctantly!!!)
dinner vegetable curry and rice, strawberries, cherry and dark chocolate frozen yogurt (yum!!!)
far too many treats today!

What do you mean when you say Actimel swish? Do you mean a little probiotic drink?

Yes, fat free actimel, they are really nice and I think they keep me feeling ok all round! There's not much in them, bit of protein. I always have one at 12 on the dot then I don't feel too bad if I have to wait another half an hour for lunch!

Here's my day:

Skimmed milk in 1 coffee and 1 tea (it's sooo long since I've had a nice cup of tea :D)
Lunch: Wrap with low fat cheese spread, a ww yogurt and a peeled apple
Dinner: Spaghetti with 1/2 jar of kids ready-made pasta sauce (mainly pureed veg and very little salt!) and parmesan, a slice of jam roly poly (cake!) and a meringue nest with pineapple and squirty cream
Snack: 1/4 packet of tutti fruttis (sweets/candy)

Really enjoyed my food today and it's still all within the limits of the diet :D

Breakfast peppermint tea
Lunch toast and jam, weight watchers carrot cake, strawberries
Dinner gf pasta with boiled leeks, courgettes, aubergine, lemon, butter and parmesan (that mum bought me back from Italy so a real treat!!!) strawberries and Ben and jerrys frozen yogurt (can't recommend this enough it is delicious!)
protein 29g, cal about 1100, fat 30g- thought I'd work this out today and I cannot believe how much fat is in butter - wow!!! I've always spread it on REALLY thickly!
Also had quite a few sugar free sweets which also contain a fair bit of fat!!

I'm going out to a movie tonight with a friend and told her that we could go for gelato afterwards since I'm fairly sure I can eat that within this diet. Of course, I'll want to get the chocolate, but I'll try to be good and get the raspberry or strawberry....

Have a good night Mocha.

What flavour Ben and Jerry's are you eating swish? The chocolate fudge frozen yogurt is to die for but I'm guessing it's not that!

I only had 17g of fat today - I think that's almost entirely because I didn't have any butter! The jam roly poly I bought was very low fat (Tesco's!) and tutti fruttis have no protein, no sodium and only a tiny amount of fat - plenty of calories though :D

Hey gals, I thought you might be interested to read this response from Atomic as I asked the question on the 'boy' forum so you may not have seen it. First of all I asked whether sugar was ok and Atomic said yes but not chocolate, then I read that too much sugar can increase estrogen so I asked about that and this is the response:

'Yes, it is possible but if you're eating 1500-1800 calories a day on 2-3 meals, with fresh fruit and vegetables, and are either not gaining or else losing weight don't worry about this.

There are some overweight people like my MIL who eat nothing but sugar and simple carbs all day long, every hour or two she snacks on something sugary. She eats toast with jelly for breakfast, fat free cookies, Slimfast shakes, juice, Coke, Pringles, pasta, etc. She is heavy and and has eaten this way for many years and when she puts on weight it is ALL estrogen producing fat rather than muscle. She does have estrogen dominance issues like fibroids. But for those of us who are swaying for a few months, we can easily withstand a few months of more sugar than we should eat in the long term, esp. since we are eating lower calories overall.'

Hi guys - I got home late last night, so I'm only getting a chance to post yesterday's food now. Thanks for sharing that sugar info, by the way, zanacal - good to know since the only way I'm managing to add calories lately is with sugar.

Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: Activia fat free yogurt (by mistake I bought one with muesli added - it was nice and substantial, but probably not great for the girl diet), frozen corn (ok, I'm weird - since I was a kid, I like to eat sweet corn, or maize as I think you call it in the UK, frozen. My kids love it too. I only recently realised that it was probably acceptable on this diet)
Snack: 2 gummy worms (candy)
Supper: orzo pasta with unsalted butter and parmesan, steamed broccoli, skim milk to drink and a digestive biscuit for dessert
Snack: strawberry and vanilla gelato (I went out with a friend and this seemed a fairly girl-friendly cheat), strawberries (I brought these to the movie theatre and ate them there so I wouldn't be tempted by popcorn)

I need some advice, ladies. Today is Father's Day, and I promised DH he could have his favourite Indian takeaway for supper. I'm wondering if I stick to a couple of vegetarian dishes if I could still keep within the diet. I was thinking maybe Sag Paneer and an eggplant curry? Thoughts? Would a naan bread push my sodium over the edge? I'm just looking forward to eating some real food! I'm going to try to keep protein and sodium really low for the rest of the day so I can indulge a bit.

Hi ladies!
Thanks for repeating all that, zanacal, it is good to know it is ok to eat sugar as it is getting me through this diet!!
Sunday so always my most difficult day!
Breakfast peppermint tea
Snack rice milk, cucumber
Late lunch - 4 roast potatoes, carrots, peas, vegetable stuffing (this tasted quite salty!), a tiny bit of gravy! 2 biscuits with a little cheese and a handful of maltesers
Snack 1 piece of toast with jam, no butter as I think my fat is probably really high today! And 3 ryvitas cracker breads with cucumber. Might have some strawberries later
No idea about cals etc today!!!!

Quick question as I know you ladies are taking saw palmetto. I haven't taken it up until now but now I'm wondering if I should be. It's probably last minute panic!!!! Do you think I should take it from now up until I ovulate or just forget about it this cycle and take it next if we don't conceive? I think I'm just getting nervous now and everyone seems to be taking it so I think maybe I should too!!!!! I know there's always going to be something you're going to feel you didn't get quite right but this is easy to change. What do you think?

Mochagirl
June 19th, 2011, 07:01 PM
I only added Saw Palmetto about 2 weeks ago when ds weaned himself. I also recently added Vitex because of some last minute panic just like you - I realised everyone else was taking it. I agree that we'll constantly second guess ourselves, so do whatever feels right for you - you'll have an awesome sway no matter what you decide.

Mochagirl
June 19th, 2011, 08:19 PM
Ok, here's today:

Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: low fat cream cheese and steamed broccoli in a no-sodium corn tortilla, apple with the skin off, 4 gummi worms (candy)
Snack: Decaf coffee, 4 marshmallows (I saw these in the grocery store and couldn't resist. Do you think they're ok? They have pretty much no protein or sodium, and add some extra calories which I often need)
Supper: Saag Paneer (spinach dish with a small amount of fresh cheese), Brinjal Bhaji (eggplant curry), basmati rice, 1/2 Naan.
Snack: Strawberries

The Indian food was a big cheat. My intake amounts for today are really ballpark figures since I have no idea about the nutritional content of these dishes at this particular restaurant - I just searched online for general info on these dishes. I have a feeling sodium was a lot higher than I have since the Saag Paneer in particular tasted salty. I'm feeling very guilty about eating this stuff so close to O-day - Indian food isn't even my favourite thing, so I could have just gotten it for dh and taken a pass. Oh well - it was yummy, I'll admit.

Calories: 1162
Fat: 32.1
Protein: 29.5 (at least I kept this low today, even if my other amounts aren't accurate)
Sodium: 510 (as I said, I'm sure it was much more than this)

The Indian food was a big cheat, but I tried my best to keep to girl-friendly foods.

June 20th, 2011, 01:49 PM
swish, did you see the thread I started on Saw Palmetto? I really want to do all I can regarding the testosterone aspect, which is why I'm taking it. How many children do you already have btw?

Mocha, that's amazing that you were able to still stick to your daily limits yesterday with your father's day curry. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

Today I've had:

Skimmed milk in coffees
Lunch: Cheese sandwich, 2 caramel rice cakes, ww toffee yogurt
Dinner: GF pasta with butternut squash puree and parmesan, jam tart (yum!)
Snack: 2 custard creams, a small glass of milk, 3 Fox's glacier fruits

I'm really getting into the swing of this diet, I hope I'm doing it right, feels like I have too many naughty sweet foods - but I suppose they can't add up to much given that I don't snack and stick to a very low calorie diet. Weigh in again tomorrow, hoping for a good weight loss this week :D

Oh yeah swish, the butternut squash - it doesn't taste of a great deal (needs black pepper!) but I prefer it to everything else I've tried (except the tomato sauces) and is even better with parmesan. I just bunged a whole, cut up squash in the oven when I had it on at the weekend and pureed a little bit for my pasta and put the other cooked chunks in the freezer.

Hey ladies - it's too early in the day for me to post my daily menu, but I thought I'd let you know I finally tried that Shirataki pasta we were all talking about a while ago. It does smell fishy when you open the package, but I rinsed it and boiled it and the smell was almost gone. I put some tomato sauce on it and it tasted just like regular pasta though with a slightly odd texture. It has only 1 g of protein and about 20 calories per serving - even with the commercial tomato sauce I used, my calorie total was something like 100 as of mid-day - it would be a great product for people having trouble keeping calories low, but for me it's not so great since I have so much trouble adding calories. It was nice to have a filling lunch that had pretty much no protein in it, though. Now I have to think of a calorie-heavy supper to make up for it...anyone know of any 1400 calorie meals that are low on protein and sodium? (just kidding)

zanacal - I think I want to try the squash with pasta too. I remember reading a long time ago that a similar dish is a typical first finger food for babies in Italy - pasta with squash puree and parmesan. I made it once for ds3 and I recall it was quite yummy! Oh, and I think you're doing a great job with the diet, by the way. I'm adding lots of sugary treats lately too since it's the only reliable way I've found to add some calories. Besides, treats help keep us sane on such a boring diet!

Hi girls,
What time is it where you are, mocha?
Zanacal, I have 2 sons, they are 2 and 4, I'm pretty sure this will be our last one!! I love big families so I really wouldn't rule out 4 but dh wants to stop at 3. I'm eating lots of sweet treats too, the ww cakes are a great find, there's nothing in them!! Today went like this for me:
Breakfast usual
Lunch usual and ww carrot cake (yum!)
dinner gl pasta, courgette, mushroom, leeks, butter, Parmesan. Strawberries and frozen yogurt. Also had free from White chocolate buttons.
Oh dear, looks like a lot of treats when it's written down, might try to stick to one a day!!!
Will you guys find out the gender of your bubs at 20 weeks or have a surprise?? X

zanacal
June 20th, 2011, 04:10 PM
Oh blast, I meant to get some of that frozen yogurt today but I skipped the frozen food aisle and forgot!

We were sure 3 would be our limit too and, if I'm honest, I wouldn't want another if it weren't for wanting a girl and DH is only doing this for me. I can't actually believe he's agreed to it! We don't really have the room in our house as the biggest boys already share a room but I hope that one day they'll be glad to have lots of siblings and won't care so much that they didn't have much privacy as teenagers :D

I will definitely find out the gender this time - maybe even before the 20 week scan. We had a surprise with DS3 and it was lovely but I couldn't do all this swaying and not know, no way! How about you?

swish
June 20th, 2011, 04:22 PM
Oh, I just don't know!!! If I find out, I will tell everyone else I don't know as I can't be doing with the pity and rude comments!!! I agree that all this effort does make you kind of need to know. I know in the long term I won't have bad gender disappointment but there will definately be a period of disappointment after all this effort. I will have to hide it from dh as he would be really upset if he knew I'd be disappointed even for a second.

zanacal
June 20th, 2011, 04:32 PM
I hear people talking about rude comments all the time but I really don't recall ever having any! Many people ask me if I ever wanted a girl or asked if I was hoping for a girl when pregnant but I didn't see it as rude and was probably just honest about it and said yes - it's true afterall and, I think, a logical question to most people! I kind of have in mind that I'll get a gender scan at 16ish weeks and not even tell anybody I'm pregnant until then so I'll already know. In reality, the latest I've ever waited to break the news is 9 weeks so it's probably unlikely!!

swish
June 20th, 2011, 04:37 PM
That is actually really good to hear, strangely I've never even thought of being honest and saying yes I would have liked a girl! I just always say,you get what you're given and that is that! Will you pay for a private gender scan?

zanacal
June 20th, 2011, 05:30 PM
I'll certainly be tempted!! DS2 said to me today that he thought I should have another baby and make sure it's a girl this time - spooky until you realise he's been playing with a 2 year old girl at his childminder's today. DS2 really should have been a girl!

zanacal

June 20th, 2011, 05:52 PM
swish - we're 5 hours behind the UK here. Right now it's 5:52pm, and I just finished eating supper.

zanacal - I'm in the same situation as you. 3 kids was dh's max - he even said no when I asked him if we could try again, and only after several months of seeing how sad I was did he change his mind. Our twins share a room, and the baby and ds3 will likely share a room. We technically have 4 bedrooms, but dh uses one of the rooms as his home office (he's a professor and works from home a lot), and it was only when I promised he wouldn't give that up right away that he agreed to #4.

I don't know whether or not I'll find out the gender this time. We didn't with our twins, and I'll always regret the small twinge of sadness I experienced when they announced "It's a boy!". I did find out with ds 3 and I cried for 3 days straight, but was able to pull myself together, enjoy the rest of the pregnancy, and fall in love with him immediately when he was born. I'll probably find out since I can't imagine myself being able to wait so long without knowing. I think this time I'll have the u/s tech write it down for me to read later though - it was embarrassing breaking into tears in the office.

Mochagirl
June 20th, 2011, 06:44 PM
Oh, and I'm always honest and tell people that I love my sons to bits but I want to "try one more time for a girl". I find in general people are very understanding. I think almost everyone who has had babies has felt that way at one point so they can relate.

Mochagirl

Snack: Gummy candies, dried apples
Supper: rice pasta with 1/4 cup low sodium tomato sauce and a bit of parm
Snack: low fat vanilla ice cream, raspberries (I haven't eaten this yet, but am about to)

I didn't have gd with my boys as I was ecstatic with the outcome , it was only recently that I started to think I might never get my girl! If I got my girl I would have my perfect family, which to me seems therefore even less likely to happen!!!!! Weirdly ds1 constantly asks if I have a bBy in my tummy and he says he wants a sister!! Happy birthday to your son! My ds3 is turning 2 on Saturday!

Now that I know O is finally about to come, I'm contemplating cheating a few times in the 2WW. Do you think it would be the worst thing if I eat a little more salt and protein than a few times as long as I continue letting my blood sugar get low between meals? I have my Mom coming for a visit tomorrow, and a birthday party on Saturday, so it's going to be really hard to keep 100% on the diet.

Thanks for trying, Zanacal. I'll probably keep to the diet most days - I'm not going to go crazy until I get my BFP, but there's no way I'm not going to eat ds's chocolate birthday cake, and if my Mom wants to take us out to dinner while she's here, I'm going to order real food. You're absolutely right about the cheats being close to my next attempt, but I've been such a good girl the last few weeks I think I need to have a treat or two! Besides, we're ALL going to get BFPs our first month, right?

My mom arrives tomorrow and is staying for 2 nights, so I'm sure my diet won't be wonderful for the next couple of days.

You manage to hold off until 8pm swish?! I've been eating closer to 4pm lately :D

Today I had:

Skimmed Milk
Lunch: Cheese and cucumber sandwich and packet of crisps! I found these new crisps in the supermarket which only have a trace of sodium in them. They were jacket potato and butter flavour - a bit weird really, think I prefer the toddler crisps!
Dinner: I so nearly had nothing except a slice of birthday cake from yesterday! Instead had a wrap with low fat soft cheese and some fresh pineapple with meringue and squirty cream.
Snack: Fruit pie and glass of milk

Mochagirl
June 23rd, 2011, 01:15 PM
Sounds good, zanacal. I've been tempted to eat some chips (what we call crisps) a few times when my sodium for the day was so low that I could actually have a full serving of chips and stay within my limits (16 Pringles have only 210mg of sodium in them). I never gave in because I was worried if I started eating them I wouldn't be able to stop!

It's 4:30 right now here, and I'm soooooo hungry. We're going out for supper tonight. I studied the menus and nutritional info at all the local family friendly restaurants and discovered one of them that has a thin-crust pizza that I can actually eat! The sodium total for 4 slices of cheese pizza will be about 700mg, and it will have 20g of protein. Suprisingly, all their pastas were more sodium-heavy, all with at least 1500mg of sodium. I am sooooo excited to have pizza tonight!!!

Enjoy, mocha!!! I'm impressed you were able to get all that information about restaurant food!

Mochagirl
June 23rd, 2011, 06:40 PM
It is a big chain restaurant, so they post the nutritional info of their most popular menu items. We just got back. The pizza was fantastic, but it was small and of course it left me wanting more. I ended up eating a piece of ds3's pizza too , but I think I think my totals for the day will still be reasonable once I have time to add them up.

Mochagirl
June 23rd, 2011, 06:41 PM

Here's today:

Breakfast: coffee, CL
Lunch: half a Montreal-style bagel with 1/2 tbsp peanut butter
Supper: thin-crust pizza with cheese, tomato sauce and mushrooms (5 small square slices), 1 baby-sized cone of rainbow sherbet I stole from ds3 (the kids' meals at this restaurant include 3 mini cones per kid, and I figured he didn't need all 3 :))
Snack: strawberries

Calories: 850
Fat: 44.9
Protein: 34.1
Sodium: 966.5

So, I didn't do so well with fat, but I managed to keep everything else within limits even with that yummy pizza. I can't express how nice it was to eat real food, even if the portion was about a third of what I normally would have had. This is giving me hope that maybe I can cheat a tiny bit over the 2WW without going over my limits, as long as I can find nutritional information for specific restaurants and choose my food carefully. Who would have every thought I could eat real pizza without completely blowing the diet??

I'm most surprised about how low my caloric intake for the day was even with this huge indulgence. I'm actually sitting here thinking maybe I should have something else to eat, but I'm going to be going to bed soon and I don't really feel hungry.

If it helps you get through the day, it is ok. The prohibition against snacking is most important during the 2WW and even then I doubt cucumber could possibly raise your blood sugar levels by much.

TOTALLY!!!!! I could not agree more. What you are going for is not starvation and misery, but just eating the way that the girl moms eat. There are women who eat like this every day and that's why they have all girls, but they're not going through the day dying inside and skipping out on pizza. Vegetarian thin crust pizza and diet coke - A LOT of women just eat this as a matter of course because they like it or they're watching their weight.

Hmm, I read somewhere about not worrying about sodium in the 2ww I think - I'll see if I can find where I read it!

I remember that thread and I believe that was directed someone who was confused about the difference between sugar and sodium. They were thinking sodium was only important during the 2WW but it's blood sugar that's more important in the 2WW, not sodium.

Anyway, any sodium/2ww advice is more for boy swayers than girl swayers, because I don't WANT boy swayers trying to stick to those superhigh sodium levels when they may have a baby on board. For pink swayers, it does you no harm to stay off of excessive amounts of sodium during the 2WW and it may even help your sway. After all, if you don't get pregnant, you will prob. want to stay off sodium anyway.

Hmmm, today was very iffy! It was DS2's birthday party and it's been complete chaos all day! I didn't have breakfast but spent all morning making party food and at one point I was so hungry I was nearly sick so I sucked a lolly pop while I made sandwiches and pizza! I had soft boiled eggs and toast and unsalted butter for lunch because I didn't want to be starving at the party. When I got home after all the craziness I had some stuff I definitely shouldn't have - a cup cake, some of the chocolate birthday cake I made and a couple of small slices of pizza as well the wrap with low fat soft cheese and grapes I actually 'meant' to eat for my tea! I'm going to make sure I don't eat anything for the rest of today.

This is still an improvement for me - pre girl diet I would have eaten a tonne of sandwiches and biscuits and cakes at the party and would have cracked open a bottle of wine (or 2!) when I got home and probably would have rounded it off with an Indian take-away after the kids had gone to bed!!

I guess this is the day I stumled across a buffolo .,... :D

Don't worry, zanacal - I had ds3's birthday party today andso my day so far has been much the same. We ordered pizza (not the healthy, thin crust pizza, but the regular greasy kind. and I had two kid-sized square slices. I also had a regular sized piece of chocolate cake. I spent so long baking and decorating it there was no way I wasn't going to have a piece! But like you, I did much better than I would have 2 months ago. Normally I'd eat at least 6 of those tiny pieces of pizza and had lots of the salty snacks and pop I had out too. Instead I avoided all the snacks and kept the 'bad stuff' to a minimum. Happy birthday to you son, by the way! He's turning 4? Today is ds3's 2nd birthday.

I daren't ask her any specific questions because I know she'll guess (and they'd never say anything but I get the impression they'd think 4 children too many!) but she was incredibly slim so I don't imagine she ate alot! I also posted on FB the other day that I was hiding in the kitchen eating tutti fruttis and she responded and said she ate loads of them when pregnant so she must have had a sweet tooth! I imagine from her personality and her relationship with my dad that her testosterone isn't as high as mine either - my dad has always treated her like a princess! My dad also smoked and went to the pub regularly ... They actually wanted to try for a third baby and were looking in to swaying for a boy but my mum got cervical cancer and had to have a hysterectomy. She was only 29. On a happier note, they now have 4 grandsons!

Does anybody else notice that larger, unhealthier men tend to father daughters? DH is not eating so well lately (because I'm not cooking for him lol!) and is drinking my share of booze now I'm off it and I'm not too bothered about stopping him because he's naturally very muscly and more fat and less muscle is surely good?!

I ended up being out late last night, so I'm just updating yesterday's menu today. It wasn't a good day eating wise - it was ds2's birthday as I mentioned before, so I ate some regular pizza and cake.

Breakfast: coffee, skinny cappuccino
Lunch: 2 small square slices of cheese pizza, small piece of chocolate cake
Supper: pasta with unsalted butter and parmesan, watermelon
Snack: blueberry and lemon sobert (Yum!), strawberries

Calories: 1513
Protein: 51.6
Fat: 33.3
Sodium: 950

I'm sure my totals were more than that since I just used my best estimates for how much I ate. Oh well, good thing there's not a birthday party every day. At least I kept to my no snacking during the day rule and I also had small portions of everything, so hopefully my blood sugar still got low. If you can do it while keeping the overall goals of the diet, it's not only allowed but encouraged.

If you can find ways to LIVE the girl diet (rather than enduring it white-knuckled whilst walking a knife-edge of almost cheating constantly) then you can keep it up in the long term and have a lot more freedom to pursue things like timing, jellies, etc. because you're not in a super-big rush to get pg as quick as possible.

I do totally agree but there are things that some guys do for sports purposes that actually cause some of them to have more daughters than they would otherwise. Like, constantly overtraining, eating a vegetarian/vegan diet or lots of whey/soy protein, riding bikes/running which heats up their testicles and lowers sperm count, and taking certain supplements that are not good for fertility.

So far today I've had:

Skimmed milk for coffees
Lunch: Warburtons thin (it's like a very thin bread roll crossed with a flat bread) with low fat cheese slice, cucumber and iceberg lettuce, a few grapes (I actually had to stop eating these as they were filling me up!) and then a packet of salt and vinegar crisps!! These were a budget brand and only had 200mg of sodium and barely any calories or protein and they were yummy!
Dinner: A warm plain scone with jam and cream and a glass of skimmed milk.

I'm not sure what I'll have for snack yet this evening. The scone was so nice :D

Tomorrow I'm going out for lunch with work colleagues and I ordered a starter of potato wedges with cheese and mushrooms (it was meant to come with bacon and red onion too but I asked for it without). I'm now wondering why I didn't just ask for a plain jacket potato with salad as I'm going to have to sacrifice some of my other meals to make room for the sodium and protein in the cheese, even if I make sure I only eat a little!

You made my decision for me, zanacal! While buying groceries today I picked up a bag of low fat salt & vinegar chips (crisps) and thought I'd have them as a treat on a day when I have enough room left in my sodium budget...then I started to second guess myself. I'm finding lately that by day's end I've only had about 400-500mg of sodium, so it would be easy for me to have a treat like that. Salt & vinegar chips are one of my favourite things in the world - it would be soooo nice to have a treat like that some evening!

Over the last weekend I ate Red Robin, NV Buffets, donuts, and even breakfast. After a trip to Red Robin were I ate a burger and two straw/lemonaide my blood sugar hit the roof and I slept from 2pm-9am. I am still holding off breakfast and eating 2 meals a day or 3 very small meals. I am back on fake sugar, very low salt, no carbs, and no dairy. Since I am TTC now I am not to worried about limiting so much. I only eat 3-4oz of chicken, turkey, or pork for dinner and veggies. Afternoon meal is rice cereal with rice milk and fruit. I'm sure a little cheating here and there isn't the end of the world, purple. It sounds like you're back on track now.

Here's my day:

Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: swiss cheese sandwich (I splurged a little and ate store bought bread - it's Weight Watchers and relatively low in sodium), grapes
Supper: spinach & ricotta cannelloni, steamed broccoli, low fat fruit creme cookies
Snack: strawberries & grapes

The cannelloni was a big splurge. I used store bought pasta sauce and mozzarella, but I used each very sparsely. I measured all ingredients carefully so I could figure out the nutritional info per serving. It was very yummy and definitely tasted like a 'real' meal, which was nice. I think on a normal day I could have easily eaten this and stayed within the guidelines (my sodium by the end of the day is normally well below 700mg), but because I had a bit of a splurge with that cheese sandwich at lunch I'm slightly over for sodium today. No salt & vinegar chips for me tonight :(.

Good going everyone :D

I lost another 3lb this week, so 16.5lb in 4 weeks now. Very pleased with this given it was DS2's birthday and party and that I currently have AF so am bloated!

Today is my wedding anniversary and I really struggled to think of a meal we could both eat. There are some foods which aren't ideal but I'm at 1160 cals, 34g protein and 580mg sodium so that's all good!

Skimmed milk for coffees
Lunch: side salad - I went out for that meal I mentioned yesterday and when it arrived it was all deep fried and swimming in oil so I didn't even taste it, just ate the salad garnish!
Snack: (Late lunch really!) Croissant, 2 custard cremes, 1 boiled sweet
Dinner: Ceasar salad - I'm having lettuce, tomato and cucumber, tofu fried in Fry Light and with a salt free seasoning (like Mrs Dash I believe), croutons, parmesan and light ceasar dressing. Followed by strawberries, squirty cream and a meringue nest. 5 fl oz sparkling wine :D

DH is having chicken instead of tofu and a garlic bread side as well as the rest of the bottle of wine!!

I'm addicted too swish! They're so tasty and they last ages because they're so chewy!

Are you eating Snack-a-jacks? I noticed today that they're suddenly made from wholegrain rice. Thanks for making them healthier then!! I'll still eat them, think they're quite a good option.

We have a lady at work who has a little girl and she has 2 sugars in her tea and eats sweets all day long but not a lot else and today she also mentioned that she never eats breakfast - ha!

Are you excited that your attempt is coming up? I get the feeling that I'll be talking to myself here soon!

Lol! Fx I won't be posting my daily food soon! Very excited about the attempt just so want it to be successful, I'm going to struggle with another cycle eating like this, which for me is another 5 weeks as I have long cycles. Mut try to be positive!! The rice cakes are from m and s, they're delicious and come in lots of flavours, some have more salt than others.
