Must tell you of my yummy lunch. I chopped up mushrooms, spring onions, leeks and iceberg lettuce (all Grade A foods for LE) and added one clove of garlic for flavour. Sautéed them all using oil spray and then threw in sushi rice (or arborrio rice etc). Then added a dash of soy sauce and a dash of mirin (a sweet sake used for cooking) and some low fat vegetable stock. Such a delicious veg risotto! Using 75g of rice as a portion, it came to 335 cals, 2g fat and 6g protein. I cheekily had a large chunk of a rustic French baguette with it but no butter! :)

Not sure where you're from Eleena but I can get it in all of my local supermarkets, plus a more authentic version in lots of speciality supermarkets in London. When I am not on the LE, one of my fav brekkies is sushi rice with Japanese style eggs on top (I add ginger, soy sauce, mirin and finely chopped spring onions if I have them) - delish!

I was a bit naughty on the weekend and ate a bit of meat, etc. However I tried to eat less overall. But I would guess that I definitely went over for fat on both days. I'm too lazy to try and figure it out. I had salmon today for lunch but now I am getting back to the diet...and the exercise. Both kids got a stomach bug on the weekend and I didn't work out at all.

Cool! I like stir frying all the LE friendly veg in oil spray and then adding a dash of mirin and soy sauce before serving on rice. I prefer doing this to adding a packet of stir fry sauce for example, as I can still taste the vegetables themselves :)

That's not rubbish at all eleena. Maybe a little high in fat but we all have those days, it can be hard to keep it low sometimes.
Your other totals are fine though, in fact you could even have had a little more cals and protein, and remember there are no magic foods and everything is allowed on LE if it's fits into your totals. 😀

I've had a crappy couple of days and today I hardly ate much at all...
10am full cream milk coffee
12pm pumpkin soup
7pm one crumpet with margarine
I'll probably have a pop tart and hot choc before bed to get some more calories in.
With that included it's...
800 cals 22g fat 27g protein.

Ive decided that this week for the rest of the week until next monday I am going to relax a bit on the diet because Im feeling a bit fed up. I have a hen weekend coming up this weekend, I have lovely meat and fish in my freezer that I keep putting off eating until I am PG and I am getting a bit fed up of it all. Its not like I havent been eating meat and fish but I just keep putting off removing things from the freezer and DH is getting fed up of it too.
today:
5.15am - coffee with whole milk
12pm - lentil and vegetable curry with white basmati rice. Was still hungry so had 3 hotel chocolat treacle tart chocolates. Wanted the other 3 but resisted.
3.30pm - a banana, blackberries, raspberries and total greek yoghurt
8.00pm - roast tomato and brie tartlet (I am going to put some extra brie on this!!), parmentier potatoes, and loads of veggies. I will likely snack whilst cooking on some pretzels and finish the findlater blackbean dip which was absolutely amazing!!! I have only just discovered this delicious dip and its not suitable for pregnant women as it has unpasturised cheese in it.....so until I get that BFP, if I ever get that BFP I will be indulging in this dip (as well as brie and camembert!!)
so i will be over on fat and dont care. if i manage not to eat the pretzels and dip I will not be over but I am not going to make that promise:
approx 2000 cals, 85g fat and 53g protein.
at the moment i feel like what is the point in burning all these calories in the gym if I cant eat some chocolate or dips or whatever. I am just in a bad mood I think. I will go back to observing the targets properly on monday.

Had a 'day off' from LE today! Have no idea what amount of anything I consumed but stuff it!
I had:
10am large flat white
12pm had a family lunch at DS5s preschool so picked at pigs in blankets, mini quiches, a honey joy, some oat slice, savoury pulleys and pumpkin soup.
6pm chicken stroganoff and rice. The chicken was actually hard to stomach!

it wasnt pure beef, just a frozen beef grill kinda thing.
can i just ask,am i right in thinking that it doesnt matter about skipping breakfast,as long as you get the 14-16 hours with out food?
i had my last meal at around 7.00-7.30 ;ast night so does that mean the earliest i can have my late breakfast is around 10-10.30am?
i really cant skip brekkie, not gonna have another fried egg though, just having teo crumpets with jam today

I keep discovering more and more tasty low fat bits from Morrisons NuMe range for any UK ladies. Had a mini crustless quiche for lunch today with 249 cals, 11g fat and 14g protein, so pretty good for that kind of cheeky lunch. And it was yummy! I'm having veggie fajitas tonight using Weight Watchers wraps so will still be under my totals

First the boys were sick and then DH and I got sick. I haven't eaten anything besides sips of sprite, a few nibbles of crackers and the like and a few ginger cookies since Monday. Although I am finally starting to feel better thankfully.
My mom arrived for her visit so I am sure my overall calories will increase. Especially when we go on vacation next week. It sounds bad but I wouldn't mind getting a stomach bug again in about a month before we TTC LOL. Good way to eat nothing! Although I don't need to feel that miserable again for a good long while.

Thank you. I just downloaded myfitnesspal. I hope soon will get the personalised plan from Atomic as well.
I read what you all write and it seems you are cheating like every day...
How often is good to "cheat" on meals?
I'm able to skip breakfast as I dont really like eating in the morning, I usually go to gym..when I return I'm starving and I'd eat the whole fridge :)))
Instead, I looooove chocolate!
Junie
June 4th, 2014, 10:30 AM
I think you should just do what you can, some days I am really craving something, or there is a birthday, etc. Plus many of the women here have been on the diet for months and months and I can't imagine anyone can do hardcore LE without ever cheating longterm.

Yup. I understand.
I gained around 40 kg at my first pregnancy...and I felt like a wale after giving birth..I lost almost all..now when I'll start this, I really want to do it a la carte and dont cheat(I hope I can) because I'm sure I'll take another 40 kg with my second pregnancy...little afrid of that...
weeziewoozles
June 4th, 2014, 10:46 AM
I don't consider it cheating. I think the point is to keep your nutritional intake down as much as possible. The actual numbers mentioned by everyone will vary so much depending upon how much weight people have to lose, how long they've been on the diet, if they're BF, how accurately they or MFP are recording it all etc.. Does that make sense? So some people are aiming for 1200-1500 cals while others like me who are BF are aiming for 1800.
MyByC

Ok. But the question is...
I can do 1500 calories per day..but can I eat a bigmac(for example)? Which is 500 kalories...then veggies for the rest of the day...I mean it must be some restrictions, right?
stephk
June 4th, 2014, 01:09 PM
Yes you could do that if that's what you want, calorie wise I imagine that's no problem but I don't know the fat and protein content of a Big Mac.

The problem with most meat products is that they contain a ton of protein and often lots of fat. So if you only want to eat a Big Mac for the whole day and then just veggies or something you could but I can't imagine doing that every day. Plus going vegetarian seems to sway pink although atomic isn't sure why. I think most people do try to cut meat out though.
MyByC
June 4th, 2014, 06:28 PM
I was just asking so I can see the thinking of the LE diet.
I dont like big mac :))
If vegie is helping pinky then we turn vegie and abstain from chocolate(my biggest love) and everything Atomic says.
The program I have downloaded tells you everything about each product.

Gosh I eat chocolate nearly every day! Its better to eat chocolate than meat, but then everyone does this differently you have to do it in a way that works for you.
Seems I suck at being more relaxed lol, I dont know how else to be clearly, so after deciding to be more relaxed on the totals for a few days, yesterday I was only over on fat! I had 2000 cals, 80g fat and 58g protein lol so may as well post it:
515am - coffee with whole milk
11.00am - butter croissant and nescafe cafe menu latte
1.30pm - Kirstys moroccan vegetables with quinoa, mash direct red cabbage and beetroot and salad bar items (mainly aubergine, broccoli and cauliflower)
4.00pm - a colleague was handing out chocolate biscuits, it would have been rude not to have one!
8.00pm - waitrose mushroom open ravioli, half a parmesan & garlic bread, some roast mushrooms

Im not really bothered about meat to be honest. I just fell into eating it every day when I first moved in with DH because he is south african and has to have meat. So we had meat or fish every night and I very rarely ate vegetarian. It was all very healthy though - meat or fish with veggies and rice/cous cous, would sometimes have pasta/garlic bread as a treat (having it loads now!!), would have the fattiest, creamiest sauces for everything, but good fats - olive oils, avocados etc. We also fell into sharing a tub of ben and jerrys every friday and again on sat/sunday! Half a tub is about 500 cals!
Now of course it is all about veggies which I love, dont get me wrong. Also am loving the fact that a pasta and garlic bread dinner is allowed (not so good for DH's waistline though!) I do tend to have meat/fish at the weekend and go over on things because its important not to be too OTT with this, for me anyway...but lately I am getting sick and tired of the restriction and hence I have allowed myself to go over during the week for this week. I imagine it will spill over to next week too who knows. I think whilst I am feeling like this I am not going to beat myself up over it because it seems even when I am not caring about the totals its so ingrained that I manage to meet (most of) them anyway!
Sorry about the long post, this is just my current state of mind on the diet and I have been doing it in a way that fits in with me.
eleena - I found some great veggie recipies online, definitely look online and as time goes on, they will just become part of your routine. I know that a lot of the things/meals I eat now I will continue to eat as strange as that may sound!

stephk - you're likely pregnant so none of this matters for you anymore anyways!
I've been too lazy the past couple days to post or even track, but now that I have a pretty good idea of what 1500 calories/30% fat/40grams of protein looks like it's much easier to follow! I have a lot of social functions this week (a playdate yesterday with chicken salad sandwiches and mimosas, a cocktail party tonight at a museum opening, a friend's end of school mexican bash on saturday) so I will do my best just to have a couple of bites at each event without going overboard like I would have in the past!

Although I'm not recording what I have every day, if it's useful to people, I'll jot down a few of my meals in case they help.
For lunch I have one of these:
Vegetable soup and white toast
Bagel with low fat cheese and mushrooms
Weight Watchers wrap with low fat mayo, lettuce and veggies (so many that I can't normally close the wrap!)
Instant pasta and sauce
Potato salad made with low fat mayo and spring onions
French bread and low fat cream cheese
Low fat crustless quiche (occasionally as I know eggs are a bit healthy!)
Jacket potato with low cal baked beans
Mini pizza baguette
Quorn mini savoury eggs and salad
I nearly always have a bag of either baked crisps or popchips with my lunch too and a can of fizzy drink (great empty calories to keep my totals up without increasing my fat or protein)
At my boys' tea time I usually have a tonic (often with gin in too) and a bag of cassava crackers/popchips or a very small handful of peanuts. Sometimes if my totals are low enough, I have some low fat super noodles. If I'm in a sweet mood rather than a savoury one, I choose Weight Watchers cakes and Go Ahead biscuits, sweets and fizzy drinks. Sometimes I work some chocolate into my totals but as rich dark chocolate is my choice, it's hard to fit it into the fat totals.
For dinner I have one of these:
Roasted veggies (peppers, leeks, mushrooms, courgettes with oil spray) and couscous
Spinach falafel and couscous
Pasta with low fat pasta sauce and reduced fat garlic bread
Spaghetti bolognaise (using quorn mince)
Spaghetti carbonara (made just with an egg, a tiny bit of parmesan and mushrooms, no bacon)
Quorn sausages, mashed potatoes and veg
Vegetable quarter pounder in a white bread bun, with low fat chips
Vegetable fajitas (girl friendly veggies again, served on Weight Watchers wraps) with a small amount of home made guacamole
Stir fry veggies on white rice with a sauce (teriyaki, sweet and sour etc) and if I've been careful with fat that day I will have some mini vegetable spring rolls too
Three bean chili with white rice and a small amount of home made guacamole
Mushroom and leek risotto
Vegetable tagine (made with swede, carrots, peppers etc) and couscous
Vegetable curry with white rice and mango chutney! Probably a small homemade chapati too as I make them with very little fat
Small vegetarian pizza or I make my own using low fat mozzarella and very little oil in the base
Vegetarian cottage pie (which is usually mince and veg in gravy topped with mash) using chunks of swede and carrot instead of mince
We normally have good old British Fish and Chips once a week, so if DH really wants it, I have a smaller portion than usual of the chips and then cook myself a few vegetable fingers/vegetable burger to go with them.
I've found the supermarket vegetarian options really useful as it's clear to see what fat and protein etc you're eating. Also, as I cook everything from scratch for my family, having something pre-prepared for me to just chuck in the oven is really useful. So my boys and DH can have lovely homemade meals and I can sort of tag along with my veggie burger or something.
I hope that's helpful. It's made me hungry! :)

I've decided to postpone my attempt until July for various personal reasons. Getting a positive OPK this morning and not having an attempt tonight is going to be hard, but I feel good about my decision! I've decided to be naughty on the diet this weekend but still stay within limits. I'm posting today as an example of a day full of "non LE" foods that are still within the limits for the diet. I do run 6-8 miles/day (60-90 minutes of hard cardio) so I've been eating in the 1500-1800 calorie range.
Lunch: Honey smoked salmon bagel sandwich from Einstein Brothers
Snack: frozen caramel blended drink from Einstein Brothers
Dinner: 2 slices of Hawaiian BBQ pizza from pizza hut, 2 Michelob Ultra beers
1680 calories, 45 grams of fat (24%), 51 grams of protein

Mom of Six, how this month went? You TTC?
I started the diet 2 months before coming off BCP. I was also drinking pep tea at that point too. I stopped pep tea and took my last BCP on 10th jan thinking (rather naively) that I would be pg by march!! I didn't get my first AF until Easter. So it's been a pretty painful time, I've had short LPs the past 2 cycles and scared this month will be the same, and I have allowed it to really get me down. I'm currently 8 dpo and praying that this is my month but I'm not holding my breath.
I haven't posted here for a few days as since Friday I haven't been doing the diet apart from skipping breakfast - it's a hen weekend and I can't do the diet properly. Actually I will be having breakfast today but going to hold off as long as I can. One of my friends is staying over and I promised Nutella on toast!

stephk - pisco sour is a yummy drink from South America with frothy egg whites in it.. YUM. weezie- sounds like your DH is quite the bartender!
I've decided to start eating breakfast foods on the weekends (as long as I've fasted at least 14 hours or so). Breakfast food is my absolute favorite and I'm tired of making myself miserable when it's probably fine to eat breakfast after a 14 hour fast anyways.
Today:
Late Breakfast: waffle with syrup at a local diner
Lunch: dinner salad with 2 tbsp of low fat dressing, a dinner roll with no butter
Dinner: 2 slices of vegetarian pizza with mushrooms + green peppers, 2 glasses of box sangria
1654 calories, 56 grams of fat (30%), 37 grams of protein

Pisco is apparently a Peruvian grape whiskey. A Pisco sour is 4oz Pisco, 2oz lime juice, 1oz sugar syrup and two egg whites, and all shaken together with ice and served with a few drops of bitters on top :)

Today I think I did well as were at my inlaws for a proper English roast dinner. So that's roast beef, gravy, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, Yorkshire Puddings, leeks, carrots, broccoli and green beans! I had tonnes of the veggies, two Yorkshires and four small roast potatoes. My MIL had made me a personal creme caramel using light soy milk so I even got to have pudding! I cheekily also had a large spoonful of chocolate mousse (recipe is just dark chocolate and eggs) but had zero fat really at lunchtime so my totals ended up pretty good! :)

weezie - good for you for resisting a roast dinner! What did you tell your in laws? Social situations are the hardest for me because I've always been a very vocal paleo eater who was anti carbs/vegetarian and pro meat. LOL. My mom eats with me often and thinks I've gone insane. I have to eat a tiny bit of meat in front of her every once in awhile so she doesn't get too suspicious.

Hi ladies - can I join in? Have just read all 29 pages and love this thread!
Purchased the plan last week so hope to get it this week some time.... In the meantime plan to start the LE diet tomorrow.
I'm planning to go veggie and stick to Atomics guidelines to protein/fat etc. I don't eat wheat so pasta and bread not for me. Could do with losing a couple of stone and plan to stick around 1200 calories as any more and I know from past experience I won't lose weight. Will log using MFP.
I am English but live in France where wheat free and veggie products very hard to find so I am super jealous of all the stuff you Uk ladies can get so easily!

Good luck! The French are definitely not low fat vegetarian eaters! When I've been there I've often found rye and buckwheat flours easy to get hold of which you could make flatbreads from etc. Also I found gluten free products in large Leclerc stores x

LOL - yes generally they dont undersatnd being vegetarian and I have vegan friends who have been served chicken!
Most of the large supermarkets do gluten free products but only on a tenny tiny shelf.... and they taste like cardboard - you have to live in a big city to get anything nice :-( Thankfully there are little bio shops springing up which do different flours.
I think I am going to just have to be a terrible expat and pay one of those companies who will bring a British shop to Europe!
Gosh I would kill for a local waitrose like StephK right now!

So I have thought about this and I cant go on feeling restricted. I have no problem whatsoever sticking to the daily 14-16 hour fast (I do technically cheat wtih coffee but dont see that as cheating), I have no problem eating mainly vegetarian and I am enjoying what I am eating. I just feel (and this is self imposed of course!) that this military precision target sometimes holds me back mentally, just like the BD every 4 days it was getting too much and as soon as I gave myself permission to BD whenever I felt like it, it was all OK again. Last week when I decided to have time off the diet, well I wasnt far off at all really was I, so if all it takes is to give myself permission to relax and not meet the guidelines I might feel a bit better.
So - I might post my eating here, I might not, I dont want to confuse other people. My targets are still going to loosely be 50-60g protein a day and 30% fat, around 2000 cals but if one or more of these is over then I am not going to worry about it. The meals I now eat are second nature, I input stuff into MFP as I am doing my shopping and its more about being organised than anything else.
I will still be stalking this thread regardless of whether I post or not though!!

Sounds sensible to me. I'm still managing on the LE diet but pretty stressed today about it. I'm currently trying to convince DS3 that taking a sippy cup of formula at bedtime rather than my booby milk isn't me being evil but actually not very different! He's nearly ten months now and I've had to put him to bed every night since he was born!!!! I love BF but I would like to be able to go out occasionally and let someone else do it. He's such a smiley sunny boy but is not happy at all with this change. I hate putting him to bed so upset. It's not something I'm used to at all. Makes me feel a bit sick listening to it! Which I guess is the point! Oh well. He'll have to put up with it I guess :(

stephk - I'm so sorry about AF this month! You definitely need to do whatever it takes on the diet so you don't drive yourself insane. I'm hoping (selfishly) that exercise sways more than diet anyways. I have cheated plenty on the diet but I haven't cheated on my exercise, sounds like you go above and beyond in that department!
weezie - I started formula at night with my LO when he was 9 months old, too. The constant BF 24/7 was getting too much for me. We did have to try 3 formulas before we found one he actually liked, maybe that's part of it? Also, can you have DH put him to bed with the formula ? My DS always hated taking bottles from me but didn't mind taking them from DH at all. GL, I know it's a really hard transition!

Thanks BlueBonnet. I bought a lactose free formula as we've a few food intolerances in our family so I don't know if there's another brand I can try. I think it's more the latter though and the problem is just me doing it. He can't really be hungry as he always eats a great tea so I think he just wants me. DH never gets home in time to feed him but I've asked my mum to come over tomorrow and try and put him to bed. Pretend I've gone out. I imagine he'll cry loads but we shall see. A large glass of wine with a huge vegetable stir fry has helped my mood :)

I am also secretly hoping that the exercise will save the day for me as I do not slack in that department!
weezie - good luck with the transition. It will be a big change for your DS, not just the formula but someone else putting him to bed but he will get there. It will be harder on you than it is on him. Wine is the answer :)

sounds yum. Of course I will be stalking this thread, I love reading about food, I love looking at food, I love doing the online food shopping and planning meals, I love eating food!!
We are going for lunch in cafe rouge in half an hour for a colleague who is going on maternity leave. Her DS was born a couple of months after my DS. Needless to say I am so jealous that she got PG by accident just before she came back from mat leave!!! She is having a surprise but I know its going to be a girl to make me double jealous (of course I am happy for her too)
So - I had my usual coffee at 520am, I had a nescafe cafe latte sachet just now to get me through until we actually eat and for lunch I will be having a croque monsieur with fries! I have some of that natural yoghurt a banana and some strawberries to eat at some point this avvo too.
Dinner tonight is a linda mccartney sweet potato, spinach & quinoa kiev with some broccoli & cauliflower cheese gratin and roast mushrooms.
if i can stop at that its 1800 cals, 88g fat and 50g protein......
BUT - world cup starts tonight and we are going away tomorrow to visit friends so its practically friday, therefore I might drink and/or snack after dinner
wont be posting for friday-sunday as we are visiting friends. They are south african so it will be meat and breakfast central!

stephk - enjoy your weekend!
To the other ladies - you guys are all so healthy and put my menus to shame. I'm almost embarassed to post this here! I have decided to live as vegetarian as I can (while avoiding red meat nearly all the time and healthy foods like eggs, etc). That being said, I will not be avoiding small amounts of seafood and chicken IF they fit in my daily totals and IF it's only one serving per day. I started panicking thinking I might be on this diet for 6 months so I need to make it liveable for me!
Yesterday:
Breakfast - coffee with creamer
Lunch - takeaway sushi from the grocery store - blue crab roll with blue crab meat, avocado and a small amount of spicy mayo
Dinner - 2 slices of brooklyn style pizza from Domino's with mushrooms and green peppers, 1/2 bottle of white wine
Totals: 1392 calories, 35 grams of fat, 43 grams of protein
I'm going on a bachelorette weekend today (I think it's the same as a hen weekend?) until Sunday so I won't be posting, tracking, or thinking about LE! Quite excited for a little break ! At a family christening today and the buffet lunch was sandwiches, cold meats, pork pies, sausage rolls, cheese and crackers, deep fried chicken nuggets, samosas and veggie spring rolls, with mini eclairs, macarons and cupcakes to finish! Fortunately the platters all had salad on them for garnish so I gathered up as much of that as I could and ate some egg mayo sandwiches and a veg spring roll. So proud of my resolve today! :) For dinner I had some veggies on white rice and red wine. We'll see what the scales say tomorrow but I'm pleased.

myByC - your fat per g is probably ver low but because your calories are very low your % will be higher if that makes sense. If you had eaten the same amount of fat and 1500 cals, your % would have been lower. You should try to eat more calories because that isnt enough and you might lose ovulation. If its just one day then its probably OK but I wouldnt advise so few calories daily, especially if you are also exercising.
mum i would be more concerned about lack of protein - 50g fat is fine :) wow I never get below 50g lol

My weight has been stable since January so I think you will be fine as you havent cut back too far, you will likely plateau at some point.

Your meals sound yummy...but only if I add a portion of pastas in my daily menu...500 cal flies...
You must eat really small small portions..like 20 gr?

mybc - yes I use myfitnesspal. The pastas I eat are generally fresh ones coming in packs that feed 2-4 people (so I am eating approx 300 cals, 10g protein per pasta portion). That way I am eating 1 or 2 portions according to the packet. You can also buy slim pasta that has about 10 calories and 4g protein per portion - if you are having a cheat dinner this can be a saviour for lunch with sweet potatoes and a load of veggies!

I'm counting my veggies as well..I generally eat salads every day...
I made boat eggplant yesterday..cut 1 eggplant in half and filled it with mushrooms, tomatoes, pumpkin and the rest left from the eggplant I sccoped...when I searched on MFP was showing 400 kcal....OMG!
How much is a cup having?
Are there any DONT at all that I should avoid?
And a DO all the way that helps our sways?
Stephk, I know those pastas for 2 portions..I'm generally eating half or even less but still have plenty of kcal when you put some tomato souce homemade or some veggies...
Today : 50 min stepper - 700 kcal burned
12:00 late breakfast salad with goat cheese low fat, cucumber, baby salad, capsicum, radish.
Dinner : Pasta filled with spinach(homemade) + some homemade tomato souce + 2 slice of watermelon (I looooveeee watermelon)
Most probably will have 2 milka crispello (yummy).

MyByC - 1 cup is ~250 milliliters . Not sure if that helps you or what sort of measurement system your country uses. There are NO forbidden foods! I try to avoid red meat and eggs (I eat them in things, just not eggs by themselves), but if there are tiny portions of bacon in a dish or whatever I just count it and eat it and move on.
So I decided to get hardcore on the diet this week (since our attempt is 3 weeks away) and I dropped 3.5 lbs in a few days. I backed off yesterday because I'm nearly at my lowest adult weight ever. I'm no where close to losing ovulation (I'm still a healthy weight) but I do think losing weight too quickly can cause screwed up cycles and is just bad for general health. I'm bumping up to 1500-1800 calories per day for awhile until my weight loss slows down some.
I'm also very naughty and used my rapid weight loss as justification for eating a sushi roll with real crab meat in it yesterday. I ADORE crab and in my head is sort of vegetarian. Yup, this is why I suck at dieting.. In my world crab isn't meat. LOL
Thanks for letting me use this forum as a confession booth. You ladies rock!

Lunch - baguette with low fat cheddar and pickle with baked crisps and a Fanta
Snack - G&T or Pisco sour with some cassava crackers
Dinner - mushroom toad in the hole with onion gravy, mash and green veggies. And wine!
(I'll let you know how the dinner goes as I'm making it up! For those who don't know, Toad in the Hole is a British dish of sausages in a pan with batter, like Yorkshire pudding. So I'm making that for DH and the boys. For me though I'm going to marinate some mushrooms and then bake them till crunchy, then make a batter of low fat milk, flour and egg whites to pour over the mushrooms and bake again. Plus my onion gravy and mashed potatoes don't have fat added)

OK so yesterday something happened to me which was really scary and made me question the fasting and diet etc. I woke up at 430, not on purpose but between my bladder and the daylight I couldnt sleep until my 518 alarm. So I ended up getting up at 5 and having my usual coffee. I went to the gym, did 20 mins weights, an hour of cross trainer and 30 min of pilates/yoga - all normal for a thursday (I do weights once a week due to RSI). Afterwards I did feel hungry, again not unusual, I did burn 830 cals on the cross trainer. I told myself I would treat myself to a coffee mid morning. I needed to go to the shop at 10 and thought I would have my coffee when I got back, closer to lunchtime. Felt OK whilst shopping, bit tired, not unusual. When I got back to my desk, before I sat down I had a major dizzy spell and almost fell over. I sat down and still felt dizzy. This was 11am - I immediately had a coconut water, banana, big spoon of manuka honey and some popcorn. I sat and tried not to panic (I wondered if it was a panic attack but it wasnt, as my heart wasnt pounding and I could breathe fine). After 20 mins I tried to get up to go to the loo but couldnt get very far so sat down again and ate some pistacio nuts, drank some water. I called the work doctor and made an emergency appointment for 2.15. At 11.50 I thought I may as well go to the microwave and make my lunch (I had kirstys moroccan vegetables & quinoa, a pack of red cabbage & beetroot plus a big salad - I felt so stuffed after all this). Had to walk slowly there and back as I felt so weak. Eventually I started feeling better and was OK to walk to the doctor.
The doctor said it was a vasovagal episode - described it as a 'funny turn' where your body cant regulate everything thats going on such as blood pressure for a moment hence the dizzy spell. He said I did the right thing in eating and drinking straight away (thankfully there is a desk full of snacks here waiting to be eaten when I am PG......) I told him I dont usually eat breakfast and he didnt seem overly concerned by this. Anyway it scared me sufficiently to skip gym this morning.
At 3.30 I had strawberries and yoghurt
At 8.00pm I had a lentil and vegetable curry with white basmati rice and a glass of sauvingon blanc (was obv feeling better!). Also had a mint magnum ice cream
Felt like I ate loads. However this only came in on 2100 cals, 60g fat and 50g protein. The curry I make is extremely low fat and has lots of free veggies in it so doesnt count for much on the LE diet.
Just wanted to share my experience because I am eating plenty and this still happened to me. I am very much in tune with my body and did not feel out of the ordinary before almost fainting. I am glad that I have safe food to hand just in case. I might consider eating a banana post gym in future, not sure, just need to get PG so I dont have to continue with this 16 hour fast! Or I might go back to 14 hours which is a lot more manageable.

Hi ladies. Sorry to crash this post but wanted to ask a quick question. I'm trying to do LE and I've found a meal I really like big wondering if it's ok, when I put the ingredients into MFP it comes to 288calories but I just wonder about the nutrients. So it's basically a tortilla wrap with cooked rice and cheese in it. It's soo yummy but as I said no nutrients. For a lunch or dinner meal should I add some veggies?
I'm a really fussy eater so it's hard to find low calories/protein foods which I like!

Wow steph, that sounds scary! Glad you got to the drs and had everything checked out. Maybe it was the gym session after less sleep than normal and low blood sugars was just too much. Maybe going back to 12-14hrs would be a better idea especially with your exercise. Hope you're feeling better today. xx
I had a few mild dizzy spells last week but then came down with a cold so I'm assuming that's why. 😕
Mars - yes, defiantly add some veggies. I've had a meal the same a few times whilst on LE and I add cooked mushrooms, capsicum & peeled zucchini. You could also add some low sodium canned/refried beans. 😊

And I do love Thai too....it was a cheat meal as DH is actually home tonight and DS1 & 2 are out for the night at friends and guess what....I picked DH up tonight and he had a present for me. He said it was something to say sorry for him being such a jerk lately and it was an iPad mini!!! I was so shocked! He has NEVER done anything like this, he doesn't even get me birthday or Xmas presents. He bought it with his overtime money and because a while ago when we were struggling financially I sold my previous iPad to pay bills and buy food. So we had a nice dinner together too and it was so nice to have my DH back!❤️

Thanks Ladies :) I guess while I'm poking my nose in here I'll ask a couple more questions.
Chocolate - I LOVE it and need it in my life daily. For LE diet it should be ok right as long as I keep under my daily calorie limit?
Cardio - It's winter here and very hard to get out and do my daily walks like I did in summer so I bought a cross trainer and I'm doing 25mins a day on it. It doesn't seem a lot but its all I can do before I have to break up a fight between the boys lol! It works out to be roughly 5km a day(3 miles).

Mars - there are no forbidden foods. You can eat anything you like as long as you count it in your totals for the day. The negative about eating sugary/fatty foods like chocolate, cakes and biscuits is that they take up a lot of your daily allowances, leaving you less for the rest of your food. So it's up to you. Last night I ate less of my dinner than usual as I knew DH had some delicious shortbread biscuits so adjusted so that I could have a couple. If you will only feel happy if you have a bit of chocolate every day then have it with a meal rather than in between meals and adjust your totals to fit it in

stephk - you poor thing! In my first month of LE I got a severe ocular migraine (I couldn't see anything) which was crazy scary because I was caring for my son by myself. I ate a huge pack of gummy bears and felt better about 15 minutes later but it's so so scary what can happen with low blood sugar! Let's both hope for BFP's in July so this is all over soon!!!
Mum - so sweet of DH! Glad he is coming around!
Mars - chocolate is fine. I'd post a new thread so atomic can answer re: the exercise, but as far as I know exercising 25 minutes sways blue so it's best to do the couch potato route if you can't squeeze in an hour. I've been getting up at 5 AM to squeeze in my hour before my son wakes up because otherwise I'd get interrupted constantly as well!

Today I will be doing my best but will definitely be over... No exercise on Friday or today. To keep DH happy I don't go on Sundays. He has asked me to cut down to 5 days a week and after much arguing about it we have compromised and he agreed I can continue with 6 days a week until my friends wedding (19th July) but from then it has to be 5 days. Absolutely no point in listing yesterdays pig out but there was one thing I made that I thought I would share as it was yummy. I grated some carrots on the side of the grater that makes them long and flat. I then mixed them with some chopped fresh coriander, some sesame seeds and a splash of toasted sesame oil. I put this mixture, plus some humous in a white pitta bread and YUM!
Appreciate the sesame seeds/oil isnt really LE friendly but it was a white pitta bread so still less nutritous than before when I would avoid white bread like the plague.

Its only been a 13 hour fast and I pigged out massively at the weekend but I did burn 850 cals this morning. I am really gutted as I have gotten so good with the 16 hour fasts and no breakfast but its scaring me that I might be making myself ill. And as you all know I haven’t taken the diet thing too far at all, I eat so well it seems so unfair. Ive just drank a can of sprite and eaten some pistacio nuts too. I don't think it's necessarily the diet that's the problem, it's maybe the combo of a 16 hour fast and burning so much at the gym 5 hours before I eat anything. So the sensible thing is to stop that long fast.

Steph, better take care of your health. It's you are the most important right now. Put everything bck on their feet and maybe allow a few more weeks for the sway.
I ate a little more extra sweets then I had to this weekend.
Almost half of my daily kcal were on sweets..I think I'm just too tired and my body asks for extra sugar.

Steph - could it be potassium deficiency? Up the coconut water?
Woken up with a headache again. I found this last time I did the LE diet. My body doesn't like the 15hr fast. So I'm having breakfast today after 13hrs:
Brekkie - a strong caffeinated coffee with a dash of hazelnut syrup. Yummy! Two slices of crappy white bread with scrambled egg whites
Lunch - roasted veg (no fat used) with couscous, Baked crisps and a Fanta
Dinner - veggie curry, rice and a chapati with mango chutney and a ginger beer or beer
Totals should end up 1755 cals 20g fat 48g protein

Thanks Weezie - that thought crossed my mind too and coconut water was the first thing I reached for both times. I would be surprised though given that I eat a banana every day, I often have coconut water and lots of potatoes - I would be surprised if I was deficient. My bloods were normal for this in April too so its difficult to tell. I had fruit, yoghurt and a nescafe cafe latte sachet at 9am this morning, it felt weird to eat so early but I felt good for it. And its nice to have an extra coffee too, I have often wanted one but didnt want to 'cheat' too much. I will still be having 3 meals but they will be more spaced out. I will skip/delay breakfast when I feel able and/or when I dont exercise. Its not adding extra food, I usually have fruit and yoghurt in the afternoon.

Welcome! Of course you can do it! All you need to do is get your head around the best way to eat for you within the guidelines. Once you do it for a while, you get to know what to put together that fills you up and allows you to still eat any favourites!

Well done Steph. I'm pleased I had brekkie today as it was after 13hrs so not too early and it cleared my headache! I've spent ages cooking today. Cooking two different dinners for me and DH (a veggie curry vs a chicken and coconut curry) and trying to make exciting new dinners for the boys (tonight they're trying salmon with black beans and quinoa with Cajun spices) as well as making sure I've enough food for DS3 as he's ravenous at the moment!

9.00am (boooooo) - a banana, blueberries, raspberries and waitrose organic wholemilk yoghurt. A nescafe cafe menu latte.
1.00pm - a jacket potato, mash direct cauliflower cheese gratin, a carton of new covent garden tomato and balsamic soup, a massive salad I prepared earlier (leaves, basil, roasted red pepper, roast mushrooms, roast babycorn, roast leek, artichokes with a little of their oil and some chilli flakes) - was so stuffed after all this!
8.00pm - waitrose fresh tagliatelli (approx 125g), tomato and garlic pesto, chilli flakes, fresh chopped coriander, courgette, babycorn, mushroom and a very small portion of monkfish medallions
approx 1800 cals, 50g fat, 65g protein. i was going to have chocolate last night to up the cals and fat but I was genuinely stuffed!

by the way, for anyone new reading this, I aim for 1800-2000 cals, 30% fat (so around 60g) and 50-60g protein. I dont always hit it and thats OK by me. Monday to thursday I try to meet the targets and then I relax at the weekend. I was doing daily 16 hour fasts for ages but had a couple of 'funny turns' recently which scared me so with atomic's advice I am now having breakfast again. Fill up on sugar! It's the only time in your life that you're allowed to drink cans of fizzy drinks and eat sweeties!! Every day I use about 600 of my calories for sodas, alcohol or sweets as they're all very low in nutrients so keep my calories in the range without adding protein or fat. I'm also eating lots of processed foods as it's easier to add up the totals plus it's less nutritious than fresh!
Today:
Lunch - French bread with two sweet potato falafel and a spoonful of hummus, with salad and a Fanta. Plus three Go Ahead biscuits with a cup of Redbush tea.
Snacks - handful of Kettle Chips with a Gin & Tonic
Dinner - Tesco Mexican style bean burger with a huge pile of swede/rutabaga mash (as it's soooo low in cals) and some veggies, with a beer or two.
Totals should end up 1730 cals, 44g fat, 35g protein.

What should I do? Any suggestions??
Should I drop folic, aspirin and LE diet until then and just start them in September again?
I can keep it and also continue with "no meet" but I'm afraid it wont have the same impact when I will most need it...Atomic wrote somewhere that 8-12 weeks is the best we can do for a sway with high succes....

I'm so sorry MyByC! I would drop everything (the aspirin slowly) and start up again about 6-8 weeks before attempt.

MyBC - sorry to hear about that. I would keep taking the folic acid, it wont do you any harm. I cant comment on the asprin I would take atomic's advice on that and any other supps you are doing.
Re: diet - you can choose to either take a break from it or start again at a point you feel comfortable with before your sway. But it doesnt work the way you are worried about it. 8-12 weeks isnt a magic time to be on the diet (as in, 8-12 weeks on the diet is better than 16 weeks for example). Its just that in the stats 8-12 weeks looks best. This is because the longer you are on the diet, it is more difficult to stick to that and other sway factors. So I wouldnt look at the stats in terms of diet and say that 8-12 weeks is necessarily better than longer because there are so many other factors at play for those people. If I was you, I would either take a complete break from the diet and start up again, or I would try to be vegetarian as much as possible, I would try to go for 30% of cals from fat as much as possible, but I wouldnt be particularly strict and I woudl have lots of cheats so that you are still sending your body a message without going overboard or potentially being on the diet for a lot longer than you woudl like. if you are not using contraception and have an oops you will at least have something working in your favour.
Hope that makes sense and hope your DH feels better.

I find myself worried now quite a lot that I will have a repeat episode which is really annoying. I have a history of panic attacks (really long time ago) and there was a time when just the thought of having a panic attack would make me have one!! And now in the mornings I am worried that something is going to happen argh...
yesterday
520am - coffee with whole milk
830am - usual yoghurt with banana and strawberries, nescafe cafe menu latte (I had meetings between 9-12 and didnt want to risk having any issues so thought I had better eat even though I didnt really want to)
12.15pm - white baguette, 2 eggs with mayo, carton of new covent garden tomato and balsamic soup, salad i made (leaves, carrot and coriander mixed with half a teapoon sesame oil, plus roast leek, mushroom and babycorn)
4.30pm - my colleague made shortbread and cherry cookies, it would have been rude not to have one.
8.00pm - higgidy roast meditteranean veg tart, parmentier potatoes, roast leek, mushroom and babycorn
approx 2000 cals, 82g fat (oops) and 52g protein

Today was as follows:
Lunch - French bread sandwich (with a couple of thin slices of low fat cheddar, pickle and lettuce), baked crisps, salad and a Fanta.
Dinner - veggie curry (made with no fat and lots of frozen veggies) with rice, a chapati, mango chutney and a beer.
This left me under for everything so I concocted myself a dessert! Mini chocolate cheesecake - crushed two Nice biscuits with a couple of pieces of dark chocolate melted, mixed low fat cream cheese and yogurt with cocoa powder and a few chili flakes and put on top of the biscuit base. Yummy!!!
So totals are: 1850cals, 36g fat, 44g protein

I feel terrible. I can definetly keep veggie but I was just thinking at the "no breakfast". I guess will be back at it and then just drop it again in September.
I dont want to start meet.. I feel much better. I'm afraid that if I start wont be able to drop it again.
Instead, will jump a little with my calories and only do 3x/week with my trainer at the gym(maybe some weights as well so I can drop them in September and go to cardio 5x/week).
The changes need to be present.
It's just that it was so easy for me to keep all healthy and sport every day during summer....when autumn comes it's horrible...

Lunch- French bread and salad with baked crisps and a Fanta
Then just as I was leaving home with DS2 and 3 to walk to school and get DS1, I fell over while walking out of the front door! !! I slipped on some sand I'd stupidly shaken out of DS2's shoes! Twisted my knee and bruised my foot - ouch!!! After painkillers hadn't helped I resorted to snackage:
Snacks - large bottle French cidre, baked crisps and peanuts
Dinner - will be a few veggies stir fried on rice but it'll still take me up to:
Totals 2054 cals 35g fat 53g protein - oops and ouch!

Mum - xx embies are more efficient at sucking up glucose from their environment, that's why it is recommended to maintain low blood sugar in 2ww. However embies of both sexes can develop in a variety of environments. I personally believe what's meant to be will be. If you are past ovulation now and this is your last attempt until December you can cease LE now (if you want to of course!!)
Weezie - sorry to hear about your day, hope the painkillers kick in soon. Doesn't look to me like you are over in any way at all!! You are a great role model on this diet!

Yay for breakfast! I can't speak for others but we find it easier with 2. Ours play well together and have really different but complementary personalities. So while our first never slept longer then 2 hr stretches for the first 4 months and only slept on me our second never used the wrap/sling and fell asleep without nursing from the start. Now as toddlers it has been reversed with the older having had a much easier time of being 1.5 than the younger. But what we love is the companionship they stop relying so much on the parents because they have each other. I imagine these bonds are even more interesting and complex with many children, especially the different age gaps. I'm so impressed by families with many though!!!

We also have days where a glass of wine is well deserved when the kids are all in bed, but we just do it! Lol!!
I agree with Junie, often they're playing together so that's when I get stuff done then, but I wouldn't change it for the world!

How many cheat days do u think is suitable in a week?
IMHO only you can answer that. As I had a failed sway last time I feel strongly that I must stick to the LE guidelines ALL the time. Having said that though I don't seem to need to cheat at all as I am really careful to manage my foods. For example, DH and I are out in London tonight with friends who've booked a pizza place. So I'll either have a marguerita or one with a few veggies on and some wine, but no starter or dessert. Granted I'll have to guess on the pizza's nutrition but there are enough on MFP to make an educated guess. So in anticipation of my dinner taking up say 800cals 30g fat and 25g protein let's say, I'll just have a large salad with some French bread for lunch. So I'm able to "cheat" tonight if that's what you want to call it - I don't. I see it as good management!

June 28th, 2014, 06:19 AM
We'll never know why we got blue really. I may have swayed my odds all the way to 99% and still got a boy! But yes, I think it's likely down to a few factors. I increased my calories in month three of LE as my weight loss was too fast and I was worried I'd not ovulate. Also, we wanted to conceive asap due to the weight loss so we DTD every day through the fertile window. The stats now show that that was probably not ideal. I also feel I ate too many wholesome cooked dinners full of nutrient. So I'm eating more processed food this time, making sure my weight loss is slow, DTD every four days so as to only get one in the window!

I started LE in the August and conceived end Nov. I did have a Domino's blowout at October's AF if I remember rightly. BMI got down to 18.5 so I upped the calories from 1500 to 1700 that month which stabilised my weight. I'm still BF so will TTC when my cycles return. Hopefully August. Thee reason we're going down the every four days route is that with no idea of when I'll next ovulate, I don't fancy beingg all "Martha" with temps and OPKs

Today I went to a kids bday party with DS5 and couldn't even stomach the thought of eating things I'd easily have before so I had a few vege spring rolls.
Then I went to a ladies house (a mum of a friend of DS1 who swayed to get her daughter after 3 boys and the only one who knows I'm swaying) and I went to have a mini quiche and the taste of the egg was horrible! So I didn't eat there either.
I then come home though and had curry with chicken and beef!! OMG!! 😉 I ate the beef ok, but didn't really enjoy the chicken, which I used to eat a heap of but didn't like beef before???!!??

It just seems strange that I haven't had to make that many adjustments, and the fact that we can still eat cake and sweets seems strange.lol.

No diet for me today. I are breakfast today bc I woke up with a migraine. Ate a mango fresh, hand picked and hand delivered from a relatives tree in Jamaica, coffee with real cream lol and a yogurt. 20 mins later I was gettin ready to go to the hospital bc I had a reactions to the mango!!! Shortly while getting ready my tongue swelled up and things got scary! Needless to say I am so full of meds - steroids too.... That today was not a day for worrying about food. Ate 3 eggs and toast and butter at dinner. I feel I need to eat more too now that I'm coming around.

Na, really don't think my food aversions are pregnancy related, just from being on LE and not eating them for so long. Hopefully I'm wrong and you're right steph and MyByC, but not getting my hopes up.

Hitmebaby hope you are feeling better today
Mum I really hope you are PG, I have everything crossed for you hon
MyBC - I can't do the diet properly at the weekend so it's cheat central but it's still less than before. I couldn't do it 7 days a week plus my DH wouldn't tolerate it.
Had a BBQ yesterday for a friend visiting from Brazil so I snacked the whole day from 12-7! And drank alcohol from 2-10pm! So I'm guessing 3300 cals, 125g fat and 90g protein....

Thank you steph - I feel much better except the steroids are messing with my sleep.
I am going off the diet for awhile too.
Before trying this diet I was eating the same amount of cals and losing 1 lb a week or more. In te week that I've trailed this (just consuming more carbs, but less fat and way less protein, but same calories), I've gained 2 pounds.
The primary goal is to lower our weight to start right? So I think I was on the fast track to that without the diet, and once get down to a lower weight and am ready to Ttc I'll give the diet 90 days and be more strict about it, and even lower my cals more. I'll likely still be nursing, but by then I'll probably be introducing solids so I can reduce my cals a bit more.

Yesterday was tricky as we were at my mum's for a Sunday roast which they didn't serve till after 1pm. So I had:
Midday - large handful of Doritos and salsa
1:30 - loads of veggies and four small roast potatoes, with a lemonade
5pm - was hungry while the boys were having tea so had some Baked crisps and a spoonful of their fish pie.
7pm - frozen veggies heated up with Indian spices, wrapped in a chapati with mango chutney and a beer
Totals were hard to guess due to the roast potatoes etc but about 1700cals 56g fat 60g protein
Today:
Lunch - potato salad made from tinned potatoes and low fat mayonnaise, with salad and baked crisps. Plus half a macaroon and three coffee biscuits
Snacks - likely to be a G&T and a few peanuts
Dinner - I've made a roasted vegetable lasagne (used no fat to roast the veggies, Dolmio light sauces in the layers, which I've never used before! and half-fat mozzarella and parmesan on top) and will serve it with reduced fat garlic bread and wine.
Totals should end up 1750cals 46g fat 35g protein

Ended up lower than planned as I didn't have my fizzy drink at lunch, so I snuck in dessert. Tesco healthy living crumble - 188cals 2.6g fat 2.2g protein. Yum!

Sorry I haven't been posting because I haven't really been following the diet ultra properly since last Thursday and I have moved desks so I now sit next to my boss. It means I can only come on here on my phone now and it's not easy swopping between this and MFP to get everything. My lunches and dinners Monday, Tuesday and today have been pretty much the same as last week except I had chocolate for breakfast today - so am over on fat.

Snacks - red wine and cassava crisps
Dinner - three bean chili in Weight Watchers wraps with a little guacamole and red wine.
Should end up 1850 cals 48g fat 43g protein
