Are your kids learning cursive?
I just heard that the Common Core Curriculum has taken out Spelling as a subject & kids will no longer learn cursive.
We're just starting the system...
Curious if any of you ladies have kids already using the Common Core & what you think of it!!!
Thanks!!!Proud mom of 3 sweet boys...

I have one starting out. Spelling is still going to be taught! Even if they don't write in cursive, they still need to be able to spell on a keyboard!
I think some things are more aggressive and some things have been deemed not as important. I haven't seen much of a difference yet.
Private school still teaches cursive. I never write in cursive and really hardly ever write with paper at all. We all type!Mom to

I agree with the typing thing...but I just feel like you need to be able to sign your own name. Thankfully my older two have already learned it, and my youngest will, too...even if I have to teach him. My boys are in catholic school right now...we're having a meeting next week on the CC, I guess I'll find out then what will be changing for us.
I'm hearing a lot of conflicting info about it right now...I have teacher friends who love it & teacher friends who hate it.
I don't have a background in education, so I'm trying to be open-minded about it.

My ds learned spelling in grade one and then when he went to grade two I noticed he had been getting bad with spelling so I asked his teacher if I could have some spelling sheets and he looked at me like I had three heads lol... And then he didn't have spelling in grade three... And toget me tell you it has taken its toll! He has went from knowing how to spell to not even being able to spell basic word... It is extremely frustrating

That's exactly what I'm afraid is going to happen, WAG.
Thanks for the input.
I hope all of the school systems rethink it.Proud mom of 3 sweet boys...
