Any US ladies get a blood test done under the age of 35?
I'm under 35 (not pregnant yet, but TTC), and would like to have a blood test for chromosomal abnormalities. The gender is a nice bonus but honestly I really just want the chromosomal data so I can feel more confident about my pregnancy earlier on. I asked my doctor about it at my annual and she wasn't really supportive about me getting it because of my age. Anyways, would love more information from anyone in my shoes that has had the tests done so I can get more information! If you wouldn't mind sharing..
1) How old are you?
2) Which test did you have done (panorama, harmony, maternit21, etc)?
3) Did insurance cover (if so, what insurance)? If not, how much did you pay OOP?
4) How many weeks were you when you had it done?
Thanks!!!DS1 (2012)

Insurance may not cover it but you can use MaterniT21 or Panorama testing. It is several hundred dollars. I believe around 11 weeks.

Panorama told me they test at 9 weeks. They will bill the insurance something absurd like $3,000 and if insurance rejects it (most do) then they'll bill you $200 something, maybe $300 I forget the exact number. No age limit.
I'd just tell the doc that you've researched it and want to do it and you're ready to pay out of pocket. Just put your foot down. If the doc has a problem then go somewhere else, you should have the right to a simple blood test.2010

1) How old are you? I am 36 years
2) Which test did you have done (panorama, harmony, maternit21, etc)? maternit21 - Got my results yesterday. Negitive and a girl!
3) Did insurance cover (if so, what insurance)? If not, how much did you pay OOP? I will probably end up paying $200 out of pocket. (There is a $200 cap regardless) $200 for a piece of mind and no Amnio - SOLD
4) How many weeks were you when you had it done? I was 14w3d and I asked for it at 8 weeks and the doctor acted like I had three heads and didn't know what I was talking about. The next doctor at 13 weeks, in the same pratice, wondered why I didn't do it yet! I had a quad and NT that week and he said "You should have just got the blood test done..." They had to send me to a high risk place, but I am now RELIEVED and can got the next 5 months knowing she is healthy!
Just a note: I am in the Northeast and the labs are in California and I got my results in 7 CALENDAR days!
GL on what you choose to do!

I am high risk because of my first pregnancy and our mfm clinic does it automatically for pretty much everyone now. I will only be 30. My insurance pretty much covers anything my mfm orders so it will likely be covered. My friend's doctor only ordered it for her (33) after the ultrasound tech could not get clear measurements for the nt scan...it makes no sense to me that some doctors will order an nt scan but not this which is far more accurate.

The easiest thing to do is call your insurance! THEY will tell you if they will cover it and will your cost will be. Your doctor will have no idea.
