I often see it posted on forums and the Internet in response to an article about IVF with PGD for Gender Selection that we should “leave it up to God” or we shouldn’t interfere with “His plans”.
I can only assume that these same “Christians” have to same issue with the general infertility population because if that is what you truly believe, you have to tell that population to accept what is given and not to seek out what they desire as well. If they must seek artificial means in order to conceive a baby, that may be seen as going outside of God’s will and His plan for them.
This is my issue with that thought process- as a “Christian”, why do you assume that God is not present during an IVF cycle whether or not PGD is used? If you believe God is with your through everything, why would He not be present with us when we go through IVF? Did He decide to step out for that instance? Turn the other way? As a Christian, I believe He is there with us as all times and especially when we need Him the most and trust me, in any IVF cycle, whether using PGD or not, you need Him there!
So, be careful when you judge someone for their choices and make the assumption that they are stepping outside of God’s plan for us- if you are truly a Christian, you know God never leaves us, never desserts us and IVF is a time when we lean on His strength the most.
Here’s praying that God keeps all of us in His good grace this year and love to all those that are going through IVF- whether or not they decide to use PGD.
