I think I'm gonna do the MaterniT21 test- anyone else here pondering the genetic testing?

Lola- I am scheduled for my test next Monday. Although my dr himself had never done one, others in his practice have and he was happy and supportive that I chose to. I am hoping to hear results before Easter/Passover as I don't know how I am going to hide my growing bump then. However it can take 10 business days for results and probably will for me.
As far as ph and baking soda test, I take them as a fun but not serious thing. Although there is a bit of science, like others have mentioned the foods you eat do change ph and plenty of people have gotten opposites.
Has anyone else put on some maternity pants yet? Yup I did and felt so good. That and stretchy waist pants are my best friend right now. The problem is I lost over 15 lbs swaying and have no idea what size I am and the normal and maternity stuff I have is all over the place, but none of it seems right. I HATE trying on clothes but know I am going to have to.

I am not doing anything early this time to find out the gender. I found out early with DS2, thinking it was probably a girl and got crushed. I told myself I am going to wait until my regular anatomy scan. I just want to enjoy this pregnancy and TRY not to worry about gender which is extremely hard!

Oh I've definitely been wearing maternity pants and stretchy pants! There is NO WAY my regular pants would fit me right now. I've also been wearing a lot of dresses.

Crazy I am 9 weeks on thursday and still have yet to lose my waist line it's weird I'm wearing my jeans and clothes as normal as can be. With my second boy I was in maternity clothes at 8 weeks and felt huge and of course he was an 8 pound baby. I tll my mom I get a little worried cuz i havent lost my waitst line yet and I haven't been to the doctor yet. I''m sure everything is okay it's just weird.

Welcome Alyssasmom789!
I'm getting massive already, have been wearing mostly leggings for the last couple of weeks. I can feel my uterus is quite a bit above my pelvis already.
I had a scan yesterday, everything is fine. Baby is measuring exactly right for my dates. It was so nice to see a little baby moving around, makes the pregnancy feel more real.
The heart rate was very low, 116 bpm, even though the tech said everything was fine I started to google it when I got home and started worrying. I rang them back and they said it was in the normal range and not to worry.
It's adding to my suspicions that this is a boy.

March 13th, 2013, 11:05 PM
I had a scan on Sat and hb was 157 although I don't think it really matters especially at this early gestation.
I feel massive already too Pangea and i've already noticed a few strange looks at work so don't know how long i'll be able to stay quiet for.

Lola we dont get offered the mat 21 over here or I would:agree: especially as I'm an older mum now at 36 lol :)
I had my 1st bout of vomiting last night, from nowhere I had to run to the bathroom and hurl! I had just eaten a pear so mabe baby doesnt like pears??!! I havent actually been sick in a pregnancy for a looooong time, can't even remember who with :$
I slightly slipped into conversation with DH while he was distracted about getting an early private scan, which he mumbled agreement to lol, so I might just sneakily do it! I've had bleeding on and off since the beginning so it will be a reassurance to see a heart beat:agree:

I'm back and I did sneak up for a scan lol! One baby, one strong heartbeat, I don't know which side baby was on the pic looks on the right but I dont know what angle it was taken off of so not sure about Ramzi's possibly girl? she also found a dark aarea which is probably where the bleed is coming from so that was worth paying for in itself:

So glad you got to see the baby how exciting!! I talked to my OBs office yesterday and It looks like I wont have my first scan until 12-13 weeks which I guess is good so I can try and get a nub shot. With my boys pregnancies I always had my first one at 9 weeks.

There's a link in the section on studies for gender swaying. Basically if placenta implants on the left baby is more than likely a girl and if it implants on the right it should be a boy. It's very hard to tell from scan pictures though so you really need to ask during the ultrasound.
I think it's only accurate between weeks 6-8 though.
xokatietatie
March 15th, 2013, 09:20 AM
I've always read that it's only accurate between 6-8 weeks, but never understood why. Won't the placenta always be in the same place??
My Three Sons
March 15th, 2013, 05:51 PM
I think that while the location it attaches doesn't change, it's hard to tell where it is attached on later ultrasounds due to the expanding uterus. I guess if you think of the uterus like a balloon and mark an x on it. The location of the x doesn't change as the balloon gets bigger, but it appears to change when looking at it. I dunno, maybe that isn't it, but it sounds reasonable..
I asked the US tech during mine, but she said it isn't really right or left, it could be top/bottom/front/back. She said too, that depending on how they hold the wand, twisting it, etc, would be hard to tell for Ramzis. She wasn't very helpful though. If you have a more cooperative tech, they may be able to help out more.

I'm still around, great to see y'all are doing good :)
I only have nausea now if I get hungry. My first US is booked for 12 weeks, too early for a nub shot? I have never gotten a nub shot in previous pregnancies so chances of getting one were slim regardless.
Into stretchy clothes already, can feel my uterus in the mornings now too :)

True Blue- From what I've seen on here 12 weeks is standard for a nub shot.
Katie- I found some amazing skinny jeans (maternity of course!) that will hopefully hide me for the holidays. I prefer "normal" tops in a bigger size as opposed to mat. tops as I think the ruching on most maternity tops make me look bigger. Just glad I know my maternity size now so I can order off zulily.
As far as my input on the ramzis I scoured a bunch of different sites for confirmed pics to figure out as everyone seems to have a different opinion. The trans vag confirmed girls seemed to be mostly left in the picture and abdominal us girls on the right. I am no expert in where a placenta is, but went off either where baby was or if lucky enough to get a yolk sac or "cord" (I know technically not a cord but some people have something like) whatever side that was attached to. I went back to ds2 and he fits this as he was trans vag and positioned on picture right. Also read that although tech can switch image it is rarely done for these early scans. This is just my observation of what I could find and could be completely wrong of course.

No puking just feel like I am. But my sex drive is through the roof! even when I feel sick which is crazy. DH is loving it because I had zero sex drive with my previous pregnancies! I don't mind it either! :) I can't wait until my ultrasound. It feel like its forever away it won't be until I am 12-13 weeks. I hoping I can get a nub shot.

Welcome jamieshalon!:)
It is still to early for a good nub shot this week, isnt it? My baby measured a bit bigger than the week it is in , but its not reliable anyway,is it? Haha I have to stop thinking about this, I obsess with things sometimes :)Do any of you believe that the heart rate has anything to do with the gender?
Anyone else feeling tired still? I really hope it will go away soon. I still feel a bit sad, I dont like to leave the house but being inside all the time will make it worse i think. I dont feel like meeting people or really doing anything. But I have to for my dd. In that way the first pregnancy was easier, I could rest whenever I wanted. :)

Hi ladies
Just got back from my ultrasound. According to my dates it should've 8+4 but baby measured 7+5. Heartbeat was 174. Doc doesn't seem concerned at all about the size...but I can't help but be nervous. Or maybe it is so small because its a girl...lol! A girl can dream, right!? ;)

March 20th, 2013, 07:17 AM
That really isn't a big difference. I have been hearing that they won't even consider a problem if it's only a couple of days difference and the baby is growing each time you go in.

Hmmm...likewise much foam are we talking here? I of course had to do it, too! Little bit of foaming up top but not much. I'm not sure what kind if fizzing explosions I was expecting, ha!
I'm still obsessing about the baby measuring almost a week behind. Part of me hopes since its so small it's a girl...but the reality in me knows that doesn't mean anything as both could be small. Even though I just 100% think I have no chance of having a girl, it just felt "girly" to me. BUT with that being said...I wonder if I really did ovulate later than expected. It couldn't be but a day or two later based on my temps, opks, and early +preg test... But I only did the line douche & tampon for one day thinking we dtd on O day exactly. And I had high ph before douching so I might be doomed for boy #3. Anyone have any thoughts?? I had such terrible GD when I first found out I was pregnant....then it went away and now that I saw the baby on ultrasound the GD has returned.

They check for 3 trisomies (13, 18 and downs syndrome) and gender and is 99+% accurate. The phlebotomist was great and actually asked if I wanted to know gender (I have heard some other drs offices give people a hard time about that). They also said they would call right away and seemed excited to be doing the test for me.

How did Mymadori find out its a boy so soon?
Kiara
March 22nd, 2013, 06:51 PM
Im going to to the combine ultrasound with bloodtest to see the risk of down syndrome , preeclampsia and some more i think. I was not planning on doing that but my doctor said it was standard and I had preeclampsia in my last pregnancy so it could be good to see how big the risk is that i get it again.
I dont think they check the gender with that blood test though, that has to be a special one, no?
strawberrymom
March 22nd, 2013, 08:48 PM
Alyssa- mymadori went HT so that is how she is lucky enough to know
Kiara- Yeah that is a different test than what I did. I did that with previous, but one of the things that goes into that evaluation is age, and as I am older I knew it would give me an icomplete answer for me. I know the test I did is now conducted in Europe under the company name LifeCodexx. They check fetal dna in your blood which tells gender. I am glad your doc can check for preeclampsia as that is scary. Did you deliver early last time?

I had my Mat21 blood draw Monday so I should know by April 1 :nails: They said they will call as soon as results come in so could be sooner.
Thanks to your exciting news I just called my office to see about having the test done! They do it where I go!!! I just need to convince my doctor to go for it. She's been my doctor for 9 years and we have a good relationship, so I'm hoping she'll agree.

Oh, and I had a delivery dream with this one that when I gave birth it was a boy so phooey on that whole thing. Dreams are just a way of working out your fears and hopes IMO.

Congratulations Strawberrymom!! That is so unbelievably great!!
Gas is so, so horrible. I had to take Gas-x once, and it worked. It was listed as ok on my doc list of meds. It's way worse than my other pregnancies. Hoping it lets up in 2nd trimester
My doc office has a test like that too where I can find out gender-but it's called Harmony. I could have already taken it. Just trying to make sure we aren't going team green like with my two boys.

I have 2 sons ages 3 and 18 months. I did sway (was on le for 3¹/² mo and vitex among other things). I'll try to post sway soon. Anyone can have the test and I wanted it mostly because of my age (12 week screening would be skewed because of age and don't like risks of cvs and amnio). I did request it from my dr, but I e-mailed the office first to see if they would do it. I know there are 2 other companies Harmony (as ICB3 mentioned) and Verifi. I guess the Harmony now tells you gender also, but not certain that Verifi does.

I just stumbled upon this link so I thought it would be fun to try it out. I did this baby first, got my result. Then I tested all three of my boys -- all three came back correct! I had a friend do it for her two children -- both came back correct! I got on the phone and did it with my mom for myself and my brother -- both were correct! HOW WEIRD!!!
Anyway, it told me this baby is a female. It better be correct!!! hehe

I saw in another due date group, someone took a pic of their family shoes with an added pair of baby shoes in the end saying "We are adding another 2 feet to the family" Also have seen something similar with balloons- mom and dad are pink and blue with longer strings, then kids with their respective colors and new one could be a green or yellow and the line of we are adding to our family.
I finally figured out how to tell my mom. I made an Easter basket and inside each egg is a letter sticker. The letters spell out "it is a girl". She is good at puzzles so I think she'll get it pretty fast.

My dd was born small ( its possible that it had to do with my preeclampsia, but the doctors were not sure) . I think she was measuring small almost all the pregnancy (now she is normal) .This baby measured over a week ahead in week 11.
Anyone else having headaches? Today I been having almost all day and a lot of nausea. I took paracetamol but it didnt help that much. I just made cup of coffee and it helped a lot and it made my mood better Its so weird before I got pregnant I never drank coffee but now I take maximum one cup a day (not everyday) And it makes me feel happier (I had problems with deppression this pregnancy) How could that be? So weird. I know its not that good drinking coffee, but its only one cup and it makes me feel so much better so it feels like its worth it. My dd deserves that im trying to be in a good mood.

Hey everyone! I have been SO busy at work and think I have strep throat now, so been offline for a week or so. So excited to hear about more 12 week scans....Kiara, so excited for you! And congrats to you too, Strawberrymom!
I did a Mat21 test this past Thursday, so hoping they call by the end of this week with the results. Seems like you got yours within a week, Strawberrymom. They said 7-10 days. I am actually really hoping for a boy, but since we had infertility issues, I'll be happy either way to have a healthy baby.
They are probably not doing a 12w scan though since I had the Mat21 test done, so bummed to not have a nub shot to peek at.

Lola- Hope you feel better soon. The wait is horrible so I am hoping you hear by Friday. Did they say they would call as soon as results came in? The wait is so worth it though. I too was not getting a 12 week ultrasound because of the test. Well, my appt was yesterday and doc couldn't find baby's hb on doppler so he said "we'll cheat" and brought in the u/s machine. She was being feisty and he still couldn't get the hb on that, but I she did kick up a storm so I know it's going good. No pics because it was impromptu. I thought I had felt some movement this week, but figured it was too early, so when they asked me I said no. Now I know what I'm feeling is real and not gas or cramps.
I finally posted my sway so everyone can check it out if they like.

Hi ladies! I'm debating whether to ask for the MaterniT21 test at my ultrasound/appointment on Monday. A. I don't want to pay that much money, and B. I almost feel like I'd rather not know gender just yet. I think if I don't know then I can just keep hoping for a girl. Ugh, I just don't know!
I have not been sleeping well lately. My muscles are really bothering me sometimes. I'll go to roll to my back from my side and it'll hurt so bad that I'll just lay there in pain and unable to move. I don't remember pregnancy hurting this bad! I think I'm going to talk to my doctor about it on Monday. And sometimes I feel pretty crampy. It hurts terribly to sneeze. I don't know if I should be worried or not. There hasn't been any blood or anything like that, but the cramping worries me. The muscle pain does too! I'm not sure what to think about it.

I just keep thinking if I don't find out now I can cling to the dream that it's a girl for a little longer. We heard some of the dumbest comments from people with DS3. "I'm so sorry." "What's wrong with Aaron??" "Can't that man give you a girl?" "Aww, that stinks!" We were heart broken over it, and people made is SO MUCH WORSE!!! Of course now I couldn't even imagine life without all three of my boys, and I know I'll love this baby no matter what the gender. I think this time around I'm going to tell people beforehand that if they don't have anything nice to say then they should say nothing at all. We're not having any more kids, so this is our very last chance for our dream girl. I feel like I never wanted anything so badly.

I can definitely relate! People can be so harsh and mean! When I was getting my bloodwork done the lady behind the desk looks at me and my 2 boys and says "Trying for a girl". I was like REALLY!! I could of walked behind that desk and smacked her. I should of said No, I want a football team all boys. My mom cracked up when I told her I should of said that. I might just start saying that just to catch people off guard.

That was my biggest fear about being pregnant again...the COMMENTS! People are so insensitive! For that reason I am TRYING to hold out as long as physically possible before telling people. It is getting REALLY hard as I am showing like crazy already. Not sure how much longer I can pretend to just be gaining weight and having the acne of a 13 year old boy. ;)
We are going to find out the gender of the baby BUT we are not telling anyone if it is a boy. Hopefully less harsh comments will come once the baby is here in person instead of the rest of my pregnancy. I have thought a lot about the Maternity21 test, but I think I'll hold off on asking it as it might ruin the fun, either way, hearing the results instead of SEEING it in the ultrasound, ya know? With DS1 we found out but had the tech write it and we opened the envelope at home. I bawled my eyes out...not even realizing I wanted a girl so bad! With DS2 I couldn't take knowing again so we went for the surprise. WAY TOO HARD on me. So we'll find out this time.
I fall asleep every night praying sooo hard this is a girl...but just not feeling that it is.

Totally agree! My ffriends wanted me to do that gender reveal party thing, but if its another boy I dont want them to say Awe that sucks Im sorry its not a girl. I dont care if I have another boy I just dont want to hear bad remarks from people. They make me feel bad not the baby's gender! So if its another boy Im going to make a pin that says "Yes its another boy, Yes Im happy, now shut the hell up!" LOL :)

When I was expecting DS1 I wanted a boy so badly. I never even thought for one second that it could be a girl. It was a boy, and that was that! With DS2, I wanted a girl but deep down I knew it was a boy. I wasn't that upset when I was told it was a boy. With DS3, I desperately wanted it to be a girl. I was absolutely devastated when they told me it was another boy. I think this time around I want to ask the tech to put it in an envelope for us. I think I'd like to be in the comfort of my own home when I find out.

I do think its nice to be in your own home when you find out as that is what we did w ds1...but I wonder if seeing everything in the moment will help me appreciate it more...boy OR girl? Anyone experience both ways?

Well, it costs about $1700 IF they bill your insurance. If not, it is like $199. They called me last week about the billing, and since it is so new, I was not surprised that my insurance (which is very good) only covered $150 of it. They rep said that the other option is to "calculate" our annual income and number of people in household and see if that could qualify us for a discounted rate where they don't bill insurance and just send us the bill directly. I asked her what she needed, thinking I'd need to fax over my tax returns and such, and nope- I just told her over the phone, and bam- it was $199. And we are very middle of the road with income, so I was worried that we wouldn't qualify, but it took her all of 30 seconds to come back and say, OK, you can be billed for only $199.

It's the same exact way when you have all girls, but your poor DH gets the "not manly enough to make boys" stigma, which is almost worse for him. I totally understand how you feel, though. This is my last baby and last chance for a son, although since we had infertility issues, I'm just thankful to have a natural pregnancy, but still.....I know what you mean. I have a scan this morning, too, and should find out the gender either today or tomorrow from the blood test, and I just couldn't sleep last night at all. I had a dream that I got some papers in the mail that said GIRL all over them and I was upset, like in a nightmare, so I was up all night after that, of course. All I can say is I hope we both end up with our dg this time!
Can't wait to see the nub shots....good luck at the scan today!

I'm sorry. You didn't get a good shot though and it is still early so maybe you still have a chance at a girl. At least you have time to digest it all and when it comes time for your 20 week u/s you will be use to the idea of a baby boy. So no nub shot either??

I did think that the "package" looked huge especially for 12.1 weeks. Maybe it could be cord or something?? Also, Ive read that girls and boys look so similar at 12 weeks, so not sure how it could be so prominent boy! I don't know, I guess I'm going to assume boy mostly, so that way if it happens to turn girl I will be pleasantly surprised. I have another scan May 7th and I'll be 16 weeks so I should know better than.
I thought I did a pretty good sway with 13 weeks diet, frequent release for 8 days, acijel+rephresh and only one attempt-I think.
Kiara
April 10th, 2013, 04:44 PM
I agree with that. It seems very strange that it can show so big boy parts at that week. Maybe its the cord. In my is the tec guessed boy at 14 weeks but i didnt see any big parts or anything and everywhere in internet it says that 12 weeks is too early for potty shots.
*ruby*
April 10th, 2013, 05:01 PM
ICB3 - I also think it is far to early to see a 'package' that big. It does look boy but maybe it's just the angle and it's cord or something.
Katie - I think yours could definitely could go either way too at this gestation. It's not very clear so you're still in with a good chance for a girl I think.
Nachelle - How did you go?

ICB3 thanks for posting a bit about your sway. i'm dying of curiosity how everyone did their sway. did you do cut off or O+12? I still think you have a 50/50 shot. :)
i only did about 3 weeks of LE diet (we got pregnant right away on our "Trial month"...eek!), supplements, 14 day abstain, lime douche & lime tampon with an either O day or O+12ish timing....I messed the timing part up. For that reason I'm convinced this is a boy. All I do is pray, pray, pray, pray a miracle happened and this is a girl in my belly. My boys seem to think so, but I think that is just because they heard me talk so much about a girl before we got pregnant.

ELP and Navywife- I would have gone crazy if I had to wait that long!
peb- I've mentioned I know nothing about nubs but wanted to say what great pictures you got. You can see your little one so well.

I did the MaterniT21 test at 10 wks 4 days and it said girl. It is 99.4% accurate so that makes me feel confident, but still not running out to buy anything yet as I still do worry.
Boy, this is a crappy week for techs huh. I didn't realize how wrapped up I would get in everyone else's stories and dreams. I really am hoping that all of us get our desired gender.
Tonight I had the best middle eastern food (the dolmades were especially delicious) and was wondering what everyone is craving/eating?
