I just wanted to jump in and say hi Sam! I'm so glad to see an update from you as I've thought about you a ton and all you've been through. How are DH and the boys dealing? Wishing you lots of strength and positivity for your delivery. Maybe your little guy will still turn. HypnoBabies makes a breech hypnosis cd/mp3 for getting your baby to turn. You may want to check it out, either on the HypnoBabies website or Amazon. Going to a chiropractor who works with pregnant women and can perform the Webster technique is supposed to have good results as well. Good luck and I'll be thinking of you, your little man, and your sweet angel girl. (((HUGS)))

Ah gorgeous baby LittleBaby!

I'm ok- have accepted the c-section decision but still trying to get to them with it if that makes sense ?
I'm 36 weeks so 3 weeks to go!! Will have a date next Tuesday when I meet with my OB.
So excited to meet this little greenie... S/he has been moving like crazy lately.

Ladies who had previous c-section, how long did you stay in hospital for?
The mw I saw yesterday told me that the NHS (in the UK) is piloting a 'fast track' care for scheduled c-sections and basically you only stay 24hrs! I don't think I want to be part of the experiment, its major surgery isn't it so surely you should be cared for a little longer? It sounds like they want you out as quickly as the can so they can have your bed!

Oh my goodness lavie we are going to have a real little baby born soon!! Excited for you!! Not sure about sections but I was told for normal births you are out after 6 hours!!!

February 5th, 2015, 01:54 PM
I live in Greece and here you stay in hospital 3-4 days, depending on someone's physical condition. I know that the main thing doctor's worry about is post-birth bleeding or ileus, so as soon as someone has bowel movement or even gas it's a very good sign and speeds up discharge from hospital. My best wishes to everyone for a safe delivery of your babies!!!!

kitkat18
February 5th, 2015, 02:31 PM
La vie soooo exciting!! Here in NZ you get 5-7 nights depending on how you are coping. I did not need more than three with my DS 1 and 2. There is no way they should kick you out after 24 hrs as at least the first 24 hrs you are stuck in bed with a catheter and hooked up to pain killers!! You are not even supposed to lift your baby. I think 3 nights would be sufficient for a good recovery. Maybe see if they can transfer you to a maternity home/ birth care type place if they need beds in hospital. Soooo excited for you and to meet your little greenie. I am getting organised now and starting on the nursery, only 5 weeks left of work!! Can you tell I am on countdown? ! Xx

February 5th, 2015, 06:18 PM
Lavie, I had a c-section with DD2 it was quite a surprise. I found out the day I went into labor that she was breech. I was very upset.

The best advice I can give you is see if you can get a large abdominal brace to go around your middle. Once you get up and start walking having the brace on will make a huge difference. DH would squeeze it on me really tight and it made walking so much easier. In the USA my insurance covered it so that helped.

The sooner you can get up and move the better. I did not get up and move for a long time and I paid for it. No one said anything and i was in a lot of pain and shock. Use the pain killers well and be kind and gentle to yourself.

I certainly hope they don't send you home after 24 hrs. THat is insane!!!

laVieEnRose
February 6th, 2015, 08:06 AM
These all confirm what I thought...thanks ladies..I will definitely decline the 'fast track scheme'. Ideally I would like to stay 3nights to recover as much as poss before going back to the mad house lol.
Adia, thanks for the 'belly brace'tip- I will look online for one.

Wow time is ticking now- so am I the first one to 'pop' a baby out? Who's next?

Hi ladies!! Oh my gosh. I can't believe our little group is going to be having some babies born soon!! How exciting! I am sorry that I have not stopped by lately. I have been dealing with so many problems in our new house (pipes burst, oil tank leaking etc etc) and just trying to get prepared for the upcoming months. I actually got a phone call from my OBs office the other day to schedule my C-section! I can't believe it, my little girl will be here in less than three months. So crazy. How is everybody feeling? My latest complaint is heartburn. I get it so bad sometimes. Other than that just some painful braxton hicks. I feel mostly good, but with the third trimester just days away, I know that will be changing soon!

hotdogz&boyz
February 6th, 2015, 11:30 PM
It would be something to leave 24-hours after a c-section!! Around here it's typically 3 days for a c-section. It's standard to be 48 hours after a vaginal birth, but you can request 24 hours and depending on baby, mama, and potential complications, they can release you early. I left about 28 hours after my second. He was born at 6am and we were out by 10am the next morning. But timing makes a difference too.

I'm still around. Not online as much these days. Kids have been sick a lot this year. Thankfully, all is well with baby. Latest sono confirmed baby is healthy, in a good position, and placenta is far enough away from th cervix for delivery. Baby is measuring about a week ahead, fluids are normal. All good stuff. I'm getting sore moving around, growing big quickly. But the end is in sight. I'll prolly deliver close to you la vie! I'm almost 35 weeks. But if I last 3 more weeks, it will be my latest babe. I'm expecting the very end of February for a birthday :)

I'm looking forward to seeing babies pop out in here!!

Gosh its all soo exciting!! Hotdogz great news all looks well for your team greenie and not long to go judging by your other births! Poor you and your little ones being sick hopefully getting it out of their systems before the new babe comes!
Hoping for hairbows its such a nice feeling entering the final trimester I think time will go fast now. All of a sudden I have been hit BIG time with the nesting bug wanting to get everything organised for my little lady and feeling the urge to scrub the tiniest specks of fly poo off the ceiling! NUTS! Hello how is everyone - just dropping by to say hello whilst my boys are sleeping.... I am looking forward to finishing work in 4/5 weeks so that I have a few days where I actually have some time to myself! Everything is so crazy and my DH is being unsupportive and selfish..... anyway.......

Lavie, wow sounds terrible that people would have to leave hospital 24 hours after a c-section, I thought that was considered to be major surgery!! The NHS really is overstretched to be doing that to people. I wouldn't want to be the experiment either. Its interesting seeing how different countries handle the length of stay. When DS was born we left about 6 hours after because all was fine, they just wanted to ensure I had a wee and established feeding, they had done all their checks etc and they were happy for us to go. I am hoping for a similar time but hoping to be able to get into the pool this time!

Sam - good to hear from you and i am so sorry to hear about what has happened to you. I can't even imagine what you must be going through. Praying for strength for you and the birth of your gorgeous little man.

Good luck to all the ladies giving birth soon and looking forward to the pics :)

Babybeau, all three of my boys were smaller at they scans. Not enough to move due dates, just a couple of days. This little girl, on the other hand has measured right on track or a couple days ahead. (And I know when I ovulated) 😊

Hi all I'm still lurking around. Sam mumofsix I'm so glad you popped in & said hello I was just thinking of you this weekend. Some challenging times ahead for you soon.
I'm not nervous at all about my birth, a scheduled caesarean is going to be a walk in the park for me after 2 emergency caesareans following 40+ hours of hard labour both times. I'm really looking forward to meeting our little guy now. We have picked a new name & are all really excited about it.
I stayed in hospital for 3 and 4 days after my 2 caesareans & hated every second of it, I am super jealous of the NHS fast track option & if they had that here (Australia) I would take it in a heartbeat. If I am feeling ok I will be signing myself out after 24 hours even if it is against medical advice & my midwife & doula will tend to me at home. My only concern will be getting up the stairs of our house, we have 21 stairs out the front & due to the surgery I'm not sure if my husband will be able to carry me up. He would have no trouble lifting or carrying me he is very strong, I'm more thinking of my belly being folded up. We're talking about getting another friend of his over so they can "fireman lift" me up the stairs. Seriously, I would go to that much trouble not to be at hospital. I loathe it. Mostly at night, when the baby is screaming & you can't yet get stand & there is no one is there to pick him up... you press the buzzer & no one comes... & you press again & again.... it's the worst part of a caesarean, that part of it is horrid. And the food... Blerg.

Love Felix Primal! Genius spelling Lenhu!

So I still haven't got a date for my scheduled c section which is really bothering me. I'm nearly 38 weeks so its getting so close.
The good old NHS is overbooked and there's no free slots available for the next two weeks! I just need to keep my legs crossed until a space becomes available ;-). This is really trying my patience and control obsession!

Sunflower....that is absolutely stunning!! I so want snow pics for this pregnancy. But, the problem is that the weather isn't really cooperating. We haven't had any snow here yet. Supposedly we are due for some on Tues/Wed of this week. But I'm not crossing my fingers, our storms are very finicky because for our island-like status. But I'm still holding out for a nice snow belly pic!

However....I am passing bloody show today. :) I'm a little early and since most of it is a brownish red (some reddish too), I'm thinking labor is a bit off. But this is how my first labor started and I'd love for this to be how this one goes down too. I labored for more than two days with my first, and I'd be totally open to another labor like his. I talked to a friend who is an L & D nurse and she confirmed that the hospital wouldn't stop labor at this point (although I'm not contracting yet, to my knowledge), so I'm not worried about letting things happen as they may. I'll be 36 weeks on Monday, so hopefully baby hangs at least until then. Ideally more like the end of next week. My guess was Feb 27th, but my babies seem to hurry themselves along. We will see if anything exciting happens soon!

Question, DD was emergency csection. This one will be planned if he doesn't come early, DD was 5 days overdue. Will my RCS be a better experience than an emergency one? What about recovery, etc.. My emergency was horrible, and since I had an epi, it was painful! And I was a cry baby the whole time! Lol. This time doctor said I'm going to get a spinal, if it makes any difference. Please any experience would greatly appreciated. The closer I get the more excited and anxious I am about everything.

Lenhu I have only had two emergencies! But I have heard from other mums that planned is so much calmer and you are more relaxed as you have not just had a 20hr labour! I had spinal epidural with both emergencies and found them fine but I was gagging for it. Will be a little weird going in cold turkey for the planned! Quite a few mums are having planned on here so hopefully we will hear about their experiences pretty soon! X

laVieEnRose
February 16th, 2015, 06:48 AM
Lenhu: I will hopefully be able to tell you all about it soon!
I'm sure that it must be a better experience when it is scheduled and not an emergency.

My midwife invited us to visit the labour ward and theatre yesterday: it didn't look too bad actually and it removed some anxiety too.

Kitkat: glad you have an idea in when it will happen!

I have gone obsessed again and I am looking at all the scan pictures on the Internet to see if I can make of mine! Grrr let it go...let it go...lol

Lenhu816
February 16th, 2015, 12:55 PM
Kitkat, 2 emergencies? Having 1 was plenty for me, it even made me feel like having 1 child is all I need for the longest time. But than I have a guilt trip of seeing my daughter growing up alone and it makes me sad, so we tried again. And since we were at it, why not make it a good one and try for the opposite gender right? Lol. During labor I just had a regular epidural, so they just stick with that during surgery, just upped my pain kills is all thru the iv. But my doctor told me I'm having a spinal and that's just a 1 time shot and does not need an iv, so it should be more effective? Lavie I'm sooo excited!!! Can't wait to hear the news and see pictures!!!!!

Just checking in! This baby is enjoying playing games with me ;) I don't really want him/her to come this early (I am 36+1 today), but, whew....it's been an interesting few days! I've had bloody show and lots of plug (newer blood was bloody show, but lost tons of old stuff too, gross I know!) I had about three hours of painful contractions last night that I thought for sure was the beginning of labor. But, no go. They fizzled out and I fell asleep. I've had plenty of signs of labor (no appetite, body clearing out, lots of prodromal labor stuff), but baby seems fine to hang out longer. I hope at least to next Monday, when I hit term.

And in awesome news...we got 8" of snow last night and our photographer came over this morning and did snow maternity/family shots! I was so excited. And even moreso because my mom was here to help with the kiddos and get them ready for the pics (which is quite a task when I have three of them under 5 and am slow moving already!) I am so excited to see how they turned out!

How's our other mamas hanging in? We are gonna have babies sooooooonnnn!!

30 weeks tomorrow (Thursday) let the countdown begin!!!
Hospital appt too, I'm having another scan to check the size of a fibroid. Hoping its stayed the same so I can give birth in the same hospital I had my other babies in (it's changed to a midwifery led unit since my last birth) really don't want to go to the bigger hospital, hopfully baby is the right way round too :/

I went to the dr yesterday. I'm 1 cm dilated and will be 37 weeks in Saturday. I wonder if this means I'm going to go quickly. Anyone experience this? Being dilated eRly? Dr said my cervix was soft too.

I think it means very little! If you have had a baby, we are pretty much at a 1 all the time! I walked around 4-5cm dilated with two of mine and had to be induced with both eventually! Good luck!

February 19th, 2015, 10:07 AM
Agree with nbp you are always a little dilated if you have had babies before.

The Dr told me I'm better off at the other hospital. Even tho he said the fibroid hasn't grown. Why the hell did he get my hopes up last time?! Apparently a fibroid can stop the uterus contracting after birth causing more bleeding. Awesome. Scan was also crap. He used a little portable one and I could hardly make anything out on it. On the plus side baby is over 3lbs, measuring a few days ahead
and is head down!

I agree too sorry sunflower! These babies come when they are good and ready even though we are fed up!
Were your other babies early or late or in between?
Its so annoying as I want to enjoy these last six weeks but all I seem to do is complain, I think I'll feel a bit better once I finish full time work I'm just so exhausted and uncomfortable! Going baby shopping with DH while the boys are on a play date so that should cheer me up.

February 25th, 2015, 04:44 PM
Primal mamma, thank goodness! I feel more at ease hearing that it's not going to be as painful as a regular epidural would be. Lavieenrose, good luck tomorrow! I'm so excited for you!!!!!!!!!!!! I've was having a lot of pressure/pain in the pelvic area the past 4 weeks. Went to the dr Monday and in not even dilated yet!! I'm 38 weeks. The past 2 days I've been having a crampy feelings in my lower stomach and back but no contractions/Braxton hicks yet.

Georgia_Peach
February 25th, 2015, 05:13 PM
I'm 40 weeks Saturday and have had Braxton hicks since like 30 weeks. Recently they have changed into intense contractions that I swear have been the "real deal".. only to find out no. Lol. Kinda disapointing. Midwife says bc it's my third baby its VERY common. Also I'm only 2 cm dialated and she hasn't even dropped yet (also common in 3rd babies to not drop until labour). Feels like these contractions are for nothing sometimes.

February 25th, 2015, 05:24 PM
Thanks ladies! I'm really smitten with him. But, I'm obviously biased. :)

Lavie...can't wait for news. And pics!! So excited for you.

And try not to get down about the cramping/contractions and dilation. Experienced moms are much more likely to feel them (I had about 6 weeks worth). But, when my water broke and I was checked at the hospital 4 hours later...I was 1cm!! I progressed from 1-pushing in 2 hours, 20 minutes with no meds or anything. Just walking the halls. Bodies are funny that way!

I'm still pregnant myself. I am 40 weeks 4 days now. Blood pressure Is starting to elevate so I'm scheduled to be induced fri march 6. (I had to beg the DR at hospital last night NOT to do induction then!).
Scary part is that since I've had a cesection and then a vbac an induction comes with all kinds of risks. Going into labour naturally would be the best Case scenario but I don't know how long she wants to stay in there! It's my birthday today and I felt like maybe she wanted to come today.... lol. So far no such luck. I'm waiting until fri to see if she comes naturally before then. Also midwives want me to try castor oil... Argh. .. I just want to meet my baby!

Babybeaublue
March 4th, 2015, 09:28 AM
I thought castor oil was a no-no as it can make baby poop before birth?
I've been induced 3 times. Hate it. I'm determined not to be this time although it means I may end up 10 days overdue :(

Boom
March 4th, 2015, 10:10 AM
Sorry to butt in but castor oil will give you a really powerful uncomfortable bowel movement (or even several). That is how it can potentially kick start labour.
For those who are at their due date there are really helpful ways that acupuncture can give labour the gentle, natural nudge that it might need.

Xxxxx

Georgia_Peach
March 4th, 2015, 10:49 AM
Ya I'm kinda on the fence about It too. I mean either way she will be here fri or sat if induction takes a while so I can wait. I just can't believe my 3rd baby is the longest I've gone overdue. Lol. Babies have a funny way of making their own schedule!

Happy birthday Robin. I hope your little lady arrives soon, without assistance. Sorry, I forgot how overdue are you now?

PrimalMamma
March 4th, 2015, 05:44 PM
Robin I started my last labour with castor oil & it was the most appalling experience of my life. I was 42+1 and desperate as I had fought off induction for as long as I could (I was also attempting VBAC). Even at that late gestation my baby didn't pass meconium but it made for a really unpleasant labour pooing liquid the whole time. Awful. It got to the point that my body was still pushing like I was having a bowel motion but there was nothing more to come out. I had another caesarean despite all this & I ended up painfully constipated for 2 weeks. When I finally went it was like having a baby the other way, a huge hard lump that looked far too big to have come out of where it came from. Sorry for the TMI but I truly wouldn't recommend it. I've had friends who have gone as long as 43 weeks without any issue, so I would just continue to refuse induction & try more gentle methods to induce labour. Your midwife will be feeling the pressure from the hospital system to have you induced due to hospital protocols. If you start to struggle fighting the "system" regarding induction, or questioning whether your baby is ok, maybe contact a doula for unbiased support.

Georgia_Peach
March 4th, 2015, 06:07 PM
Boysway--I'm 40 weeks 4 days. Friday I'll be 41 weeks.

Wow thanks for sharing your story primal. That's crazy! I would definitely not be loving all that pushing and blockage after etc. I don't think I will be doing the oil. Just going to rest. I went in to hospital today for nst and ultrasound. They estimate she's only 7 pounds 5 oz. I'm happy with that bc I thought she was much bigger! Bc of my blood pressure and just not feeling well (headache/dizzy/nauseous) I'm still going to do the "gentle induction" Friday. I'm aware it probably will be a very long drawn out experience. Especially since they won't be using hard core drugs like pitocin unless they have to.
But I'm trying to stay positive and pray that it won't end on a cesection after this whole journey. (Not that anything is wrong with sections at all.. I just would have gone a way diff route.. and she'd be out by now!)

Boysway
March 4th, 2015, 06:52 PM

Robin, I was induced with pitocin with ds2, I was really not wanting to be induced at all and was scared of it but it actually was a very easy delivery, so much easier than ds1 with my water breaking 2 days early! Hope she comes soon! Happy birthday!

March 4th, 2015, 08:14 PM

Robin I had a GREAT experience inducing with castor oil and delivered my 2nd completely naturally. I also took castor oil tablets so there was no bad taste. My first was 10 pounds and I was worried about having another 10pounder so took the castor oil at 40 wks and delivered the next day. If you want to know more just PM me.

Question! I'm 37 weeks tomorrow, and since yesterday I been really really really tired. Have a headache, and feeling very nausea. Im also cramping like I'm having my period until I lay down and than its gone(I'm sure that's bh). Baby is moving a lot/normal. My last appointment was Monday and bp is normal, everything else is fine too. My next appt is this upcoming Monday. So my question is, is this normal? Hey Lenhu it's totally normal pre labour stuff! I too have it really bad like I'm going to get my period, intense BH I'm only 35 weeks but it started about 33. I think the more kids you have the more ' ready' your body gets to go into labour!! Pain in the bum though right!! Xxxxx

Kitkat, that's makes me feel better. With dd i cramped all the time so I know it's just bh. It doesn't bother me, but I was really concerned about the other things. I just thought to myself, whao! This is the feeling i would have before a positive pregnancy test, not this late in the game. Haha especially when this pregnancy has been a breeze compared to dd. I just hope little man stay put a until his scheduled CSection b/c my whole family is out of town.

It's super normal Lenhu! I have always had periods of nausea, exhaustion, and crampiness as the third tri progresses. With my last two, weeks 34-36 were really bad for feeling like that. As your body gears up for labor/delivery, all sorts of weird things start to happen. Hopefully baby sticks in there til your c-section., and that the yuckiness passes.

Thank you so much hotdogs, you don't know how much I needed that! I always need reassurance for everything! I'm sure if you ask my poor husband, he's sick of me asking. All I have to do is stare at him for a little bit than exhale and say, honey do you think- than he cuts me off and says, it's normal, you and Ian will be fine, so stop worrying. Lol.

Hi all. Thought I'd update with a short birth story.

Went into hospital to be induced Friday March 6 at 8 am. I was 41 weeks. I was already 4cms dialated so they put a balloon inside my cervix to help dialate me. Since this is my 2nd attempt at a vbac we wanted to avoid any hard core induction methods as much as possible. It was supposed to dialate me to 6 cm. They sent me home from hospital to just wait until the balloon fell out (which meant you were 6 cm dialated). We went home and watched TV and then went shopping I had some mild contractions but they stopped around 4 pm. .. but the balloon never fell out. So at 7 pm we went back to hospital to see what was going on.

They checked me and I was 7cm dialated. The balloon must have got stuck! So they broke my water at 8 pm. That was all it took to send me into active labour. The contractions were almost unbarable. I asked for epidural since I had that the last vbac but the anastegiolost was not available. Before I knew it... it was time to push. She had her cord wrapped around her neck two times but the midwives were able to get it off no problem. She came down and out fast. Maybe 4 pushes. she was born at 11.48pm. It was the most painful thing I have ever experienced in my life but clearly very worth it. we got to leave the hospital at 2.am. and sleep in our beds that night. It was truly magical.

She was late by 7 days but the midwife was shocked by it bc she shows no signs of being late. If they had to guess they would say she was only 39-40 weeks. Funny bc I am.sure of dates etc. Just goes to show every baby has a different growing pattern inside the womb.

All you ladies waiting to meet your little ones....I know everyone says it but try and .enjoy the last little bit of pregnancy. It's all over so fast. And although I wouldn't trade her for the world.. I miss her being inside me a bit too. It's crazy but I'm already thinking about a 4th. (Maybe it's the hormones! Lol)

I can't wait to hear more birth stories.

Yes its called a balloon Foley. They normally use something else to help dialate you but bc it was to harsh for someone that has a previous c section scar they used that. I was very impressed bc it gave me mild contractions not bad. That's all it took to get me to 7cm! Also ive read online that they normally put it in at hospital in the evening and send you home overnight to sleep, then come back in morning to do induction. Its very convienent. I'm in Canada. 😊

Awesome! Thanks for the info! I had a VBAC with DD3 and really want another one with DC4. I am going to ask my midwives about this because DD3 was late and I am concerned that this little pumpkin will be late too. I don't want another c-section so I'll try anything.

LaVie I think the thing to remember is that you are experiencing everything at once because you were Team Green [emoji172] Not criticizing that choice one bit but because I found out at 18 weeks that we were expecting a boy I was able to go through all that shit early. And it IS shit, it's awful. Just give yourself time. Of course you love him but you also may find that acute sting of fresh GD mellows with time, mine certainly has. Although even now, we read a book about adoption the other day & were telling the boys how close we came to adopting from China before I fell pregnant with Darcy in 2008 & they both asked if we could do it now. My husband quietly mentioned later that it might be the only way we could get a girl. I certainly won't be doing another pregnancy as I wholeheartedly believe that short of medical intervention which is not available in Australia it would be another boy, and this pregnancy has been pretty rough. So we may revisit adoption again in the future. And in totally unrelated news, I got my hair done today! (It will never look this nice again, so here's a photo!)

its funny because my DH and I also spoke about adoption as the only way to have a daughter...like you, im convinced that another attempt would be another boy.

thank you all for your support.it feels good to know that we are able to express freely our true feelings and emotions without being judge...I have to put on a mask whenever people ask if we were trying for a girl, hoping for a girl etc...

in any case, how can i not be proud to be blessed with such beautiful boys? :-)

Here's my birth story (finally) - sorry its quite long

The Beautiful Birth Story of Diego

26th February 2015 – 11:06 am

When I was told a month prior my due date that another natural delivery would be too risky for me, I thought that my perfect birth dream was being shattered. I previously enjoyed three amazing homebirths and have felt empowered by the experience. I struggled to envisage another way to birth my baby. My initial reaction was to rebel against a medicalised, planned caesarean but after long talks with my husband and my family I had to accept that this was the best option to preserve a healthy body, fit to care for a family of four children.
Still, I wasn’t going to just ‘go with it’ without a fight! How could I empower myself and feel in charge as much as possible in a procedure where usually everything follows a protocol which gives very little if any control to the mother to be?
Following my midwife’s advice, I watched ‘Microbirth’ – a fascinating documentary revealing microscopic events happening at birth-. This inspired me to research ‘natural C sections’ where Obstetricians work closely with the mother to implement mother’s contribution, awareness and more natural ways to bring baby out of the womb.
From there, I hatched my new birth plan which implemented vaginal swab to colonise baby with my flora, ‘walking the baby out slowly’, delayed cord clamping and immediate skin to skin contact. I had full support from my midwife, Maria, which was amazing. She organised a meeting with our Obstetrician the day prior surgery. It was very exciting for each of us to plan the birth: we were the first couple to request ‘natural’ elements to a caesarean in this local hospital and most of the staff were quite intrigued and excited to pioneer new elements to an established protocol.

The Day you were born: 26th February 2015, we got ready just before 8am, said our goodbyes to your three brothers and to my mum, and off we went to hospital.
We were shown to our little room and asked to dress with the hospital gowns, and scrubs for my husband. My midwife arrived promptly and prepared the vaginal swab for me. I kept it for about an hour. In the meantime, I had the usual checks and the Anaesthetist came to talk to us and explained the procedure thoroughly. He was from Nigeria and spoke a little bit of French which was sweet.
Everyone was so attentive and so very kind to us. Despite this, I was starting to feel a bit nervous in anticipation. The surgical team had a last minute meeting and then we were told that they were ready for us!
I walked to theatre, my heart beating so fast, my ever supporting and loving husband by my side. In the theatre, all the staff had French styled their hat into berets which was so touching for me. I was then prepped with spinal block, IV etc…Soon, my legs started to feel tingly and heavy and within a few seconds I wasn’t able to move them. The slight pressure in my chest sent me in a little panic but the anaesthetist was reassuring and daddy’s presence soothing.
My midwife was scrubbed and ready with the swab in a little bag. She stood between both sides of the screen and was able to give me a running commentary on what was going on’ behind the scene’.
The screen was pulled up whilst the OB started to open my tummy. I was numbed and wasn’t in any pain but I could feel every tug, pulling, rummaging etc… what a weird sensation. It felt all very surreal not to be in labour and yet only minutes to meet You.
Suddenly, I could hear suction and was told the sac had been opened. From then on it all went super fast: the screen was lowered down and I could see your head emerged from my tummy. After a couple of minutes, your body was born too: and here You were: a perfect little boy! Crying instantly!
Maria passed You to me straight away onto my chest and she swabbed You immediately all over your face. The emotion was really coming in as I was holding You in my arms. Your little body warm, snuggled under my chin. Your cord was left untouched for a few minutes until it stopped pulsing. Daddy was able to cut it. Welcome to the World Diego!
We also were able to keep my placenta and it was stored in a cool bag.
The screen went back up whilst the Team closed my tummy back up. This lasted far longer than the birth itself! It wasn’t as bad as I expected though and soon we were back in our little recovery room. Daddy went to pick up my mum and your brothers for them to meet You. It was truly special to be all united so soon after your birth.
My first night with You was such a precious night. Holding my newborn son, his silvery eyes and soft downy skin. A rush of love with every breath. You were mine, and mine alone, just for a moment, before I had to share You with the world.

Wow, thank you so much! Now you have made me all teary...

Primal: it was paramount to me to feel involved in the process of birthing my baby. I'm so glad it happened this way and I really hope and wish that more and more women re take control of the most natural physiological thing your body can do, and trust your body without fear. If naturally isn't possible then all should be done with a mother led and mother centred approach. I am a strong advocate of a positive birth movement.

I love you all- so glad I found this site which has provided immense support, compassion and love.

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the last few days/weeks of pregnancy.

Well, I had an eventful delivery yesterday morning!! My daughter was obviously ready to meet everyone. I got to the hospital at 5:12am and she was born at 5:19 am. I started having very mild contractions at around 3:30 am that were 15-20 minutes apart. So around 4 I called the hospital to ask what they thought and they said to wait until they got closer and stronger. Well not long after they jumped to 5-7 minutes apart and all the way to the hospital 40 minutes away they were 2 minutes apart and strong!! I was a 10 when I got to the hospital, they got some midwife as she was leaving since my dr wouldn't make it in time and I pushed twice and I was done!!! I'm not even sore at all, don't even feel like I had a baby!!! We are so in love! [emoji7]
