Thyroid question

Hi, I have been trying to sway pink. I have a 2 1/2 yo son, and have had three early pregnancy losses.
Got all my (many many) test results from OBvyesterday and he says all is normal.
My TSH was 2.86 but because it's below 5 he said it was fine. I have read that anything over 2 will cause symptoms and before getting pregnant under 2.5 is safest.
I have had symptoms for 17 years but no one will even do a short trial of a tiny dose of medication because my TSH is normal. So let's just say I don't have a high opinion of the normal range.
Now I'm scared that thyroid problems are at the root of my recurrent losses. I'm terrified to get pregnant and go through it again, but if I wait for treatment that may never happen I won't get a baby either.
Does anyone have any thoughts or advice? So far three doctors over the years will have nothing to do with listening to my concerns. Feeling so defeated.

So the newer norms actually have 3-3.5 as the upper end of TSH, which might make you subclinically hypo. That likely wouldn't be the cause of your early losses... however, if your T3 and/or T4 are also off, it definitely all together can.

Have you had a full thyroid panel done? My recommendation would be to push any doc, especially an endocrinologist if you can see one, for a full thyroid panel, including testing for any antibodies (which is typical of Hashimoto's, the most common thyroid disorder, a disorder which happens to have flares that can make thyroid levels bounce around)

Have not had a full panel as no doctor so far believes anything is less than normal about my thyroid. I am going to the local after hours clinic Monday night to discuss with the on call doctor. He is really my last hope, but even if he disagrees with me I know he will at least listen to me.

So this is what i found on the website about hypothyroid (Down Below). I have hyperthyroidism (graves diease) and i know doctors want your levels to be within range before concieving because it makes it much easier to control during pregnancy. Yes off levels can cause a miscarriage sadly as this has happened to people im in a group with. However, treatment beforehand will help. Its important because the baby uses T4 thryoid hormones from you in the beginning until your baby had their own thyroid. T3 affects progesterone hormones. You need them both to sustain a pregnancy. Will your obgyn perhaps give you the proper test? I had some labs done at my obgyn after mentioning hot flashes. I was diagnoised after my 4th child. She left out my lab for T3, reverse T3 and TSI so i will go to my pcp for the ones she left out. Mention your symptoms and your miscarriages. Please keep trying.

I am confused. So if ur TSH is in the normal range then why r u doubting ur results ? Do u think its lab error ?

I agree. Normal range is not very accurate when it comes to thyroid.
I had my thyroid radiated 9.5 years ago. I am now on synthroid. I would not want my thyroid to be that low, I prefer it to be between 1.0-2.0. Right now since I'm pregnant it is between 0.0-1.0 and that is great, because you want it to be a little bit higher when you are pregnant. But these are just numbers I find work best for me.

I'm sorry your doctor isn't listening is there anyway you could find another doctor?

The TSH is sometimes not completely accurate and you need the Free T4 and Free T3 labs.

I have gathered several credible sources (clinical practice guidelines, etc) citing evidence that TSH over 2.5 in preconception and early pregnancy increases risk of miscarriage, preterm delivery, cognitive defecits in baby, etc.
So far I have had a late preterm delivery and three miscarriages, and a recent TSH of 2.86.
I am hoping that once I can explain that, the dr will at least consider treating me. My fear is that he will feel uncomfortable overriding my regular doctor(s), but if I can reduce my risk of more miscarriages I have to try.
