Ttc make sure you ask what side placents is on?!!! can't wait to see the nugget.

Can they tell this early? 6/7/weeks?

TTC5
February 6th, 2012, 08:24 PM
WP- lots of bh just nothing regular yet. I'll be getting another sweep on Thursday and talking to them about inducing. I'm hoping it'll only take pitocin instead of the whole shebang.

Tink- was your placenta on the right? Mine was on the left.

It may happen before then! FX it does!

Tink18
February 6th, 2012, 10:43 PM
Yes mine was on the right. i asked my doc and she confirmed. yesss ttc its the best time to make the guess with a vaginal ultra sound.

February 7th, 2012, 12:49 PM
r u still pregnant 3pink1b?? omg this baby must be really comfy in there. hope you don't go overdue. my friend went 2 weeks overdue. i always go at 37 weeks. i swear this works. go for a long walk but walk with 1 foot up on the sidewalk and 1 foot in the street. so you kinda do a mini stair stepper during your walk. its hard when you are that large and uncomfortable but it works for me everytime. hopefully not much longer.

3Pink1Blue
February 8th, 2012, 11:53 AM

MFC - ooh yes what time zone, I will be stalking you as well!

WashingtonPromise

MFC: Glad to hear you have a scan book. Stalker #3 :)

Jen: Are you going to do a 40wk belly pic tomorrow? I bet it would be your last one.

We are transitioning DD4 into a toddler bed, so baby can have the crib. This is day 2 and she is doing sooo much better. It is a tight sqeeze with her and me in that bed to read, though. Then, she moves in with DD3 so the baby will have a room to himself. AND THEN the potty training begins. Believe it or not I have never had more than one in diapers at a time. Man, I just love cramming as much stuff into the last half my pregnancy.

Here's today's post appt scoop. I'm 2 1/2 cm and still 70% effaced, she gave me another stir. An induction would only require pitocin so we scheduled it for Monday but we are all hoping he comes on his own before then.

My last induction, they gave me that cervadil (a pill up next to the cervix) and that started contractions. I didn't even get the pitocin until the very end to speed things up. So maybe that's all you need! Hopefully he will come before then!

Flava- I would much rather sit and wait but we are both so damn big lol I'm measuring 42 weeks! My first was born a couple days before her scheduled induction so I'm hoping that happens.

Hobber- actuality all I need is pitocin, my cervix is moving right along I'm just not contracting regularly.

Jen, this is gonna be your weekend isn't it!!!!! Mine have nearly all started at night, as soon as I've laid down to relax for the evening, so go get a cup of hot chocolate ready, curl up and take a few deep breaths and I bet that memorable achy squeeze will begin!!!!!! Do you know whats funny?? When it starts it always reminds me of the music from the Jaws films lol! That quiet dun-dun............dun-dun.......dun-dun..dun-dun, and it gets closer and louder like the shark creeping up on them:bigsmile: I sound like a loony now don't I lol, but I bet Jaws pops into your head now as soon as you think you feel that 1st ominous ache, kinda like a 'what was that? did the water move or was it just my imagination??......then again dun-dun!!! I'm completely jealous of you atm but so excited at the same time!!!!:hug2:

Thanks for all your sweetness ladies! We are in pure bliss here, dh took the week off so he's been doing all the cooking, cleaning, shopping so I can relax and snuggle the baby. Don't worry he's getting ample baby time too, he grabs him every chance he gets. The girls just keep kissing him declaring "He's sooo cute!", dd1 even changed her first diaper. If she trusts the milk source it is fine. But, if she has not personally been to the farm it may not be safe. We use to buy from a farm before we got our own cows and they did a pretty good job of keeping everything clean, and their herd was very healthy. If you seen the cows that the grocery stores get their milk from you would never buy it from them again.

We do drink our cow's and goat's milk and DH is very good about cleanliness and they are all tip-top in health. We love knowing where our milk and eggs come from and how old they are. Some families just don't have a choice and that's okay, too.

I wish I lived in a place where I could have a cow or goat and some chickens, but we live in a neighborhood with covenants and restrictions against livestock. :sigh:

Growing up, we had chickens, goats and a cow. We also had a huge garden and an orchard. My mom still has chickens and a garden and the fruit trees. It is such a treat to visit and get fresh food from her!

Thanks for the advice ladies. As far as induction....NO WAY. I have done that 4 times and my body just does not respond well to it. I have asked my SIL and another friend who is a doula to come as soon as I have the first conx. Both are about 30 minutes away. But, labor is so, so different each time that is hard to prepare. My last one was so fast that I barely had time to realize I was really in labor and then it was time to get to the hospital without pushing. This may be longer, or shorter!!! Ugh, this is what life is all about , though....getting through trials.

Doula: Thanks so much for popping in :) I bought several books you recommended and am fully prepared to do an UC, we have never had any trouble with labor and delivery in the past. But we are 30+ minutes from a hospital (and that is with a police officer driving) and DH is afraid that if something happened he could never forgive himself. But, who knows with this whole situation we may do UC after all....lol.

I forgot to say, DH just did a first responders class last week for mass casuality situations and one of the situations was a women giving birth breech. I read the book while he was studying and it was very informative. He may have to use it....lol ( please not the breech part though)

Ack! Girlmom- Women's birthing choices are solely up to them!!Women need to research and make those decisions themselves(and not rely on your Dr etc)because at the end of the day, the Dr./midwife just goes home to his/her family and the woman is left with her birth experience. There's no such thing as being a wimp when it comes to labour/birth. A woman's past experiences etc shape her views on birth, everyone has different pain tolerances...every woman and every birth is different. I feel the need to be away from the hospital because they caused all my problems. If I had been home, my baby would not have needed to spend 5 days in the NICU. It's a decision I truly regret.

Another thing about problems with delivery etc- There are SO MANY things that happen inside our bodies when we birth. Oxytocin is a natural hormone that flows freely during an undisturbed birth, and when you interrupt that flow of hormone....hemorrhaging happens. If a Dr. were to start pulling a placenta out of a woman, even if it seems ready to come out, she could hemorrhage. If a woman's diet is low in iron or her diet has been kinda crappy through pregnancy...she could bleed. A shot of pitocin in the womans thigh before baby is born can also CAUSE a bleed. Pitocin throughout a birth, to induce or manage, causes bleeding after birth(tires out the uterus so it has a hard time clamping down and shrinking after birth)....All these things that we deal with in the hospital would never be an issue at home(other than diet).

My midwife has been to 1500 births and she has told me that out of all those births, only 20 times has she had a very bad bleed that needed transport. She has never lost a mother. Patience, a calm and private place/atmosphere, and a healthy mom are the ways to almost ensure that everything will be ok.

WP- I'm about 40 mins from the hospital and what my old midwife told me is true(from experience being at many births in the hospital)- it can take at least 30 mins for them to get an OR ready for you, so by the time you transported, it really wouldn't have mattered if you were in the hospital or not. Many homebirth transports are for long labours or pain relief. They aren't a medical emergency.
I know that there are issues that need to be dealt with right away- like a very bad bleed(over 2 cups) or a shoulder dystocia, or a newborn resus. These are all things that can be dealt with very well as long as you have the knowledge. I took a newborn resus. class and watch videos to help with that. Also, having baby attached to the cord/placenta until the cord is white and limp, is the absolute best way for baby to get oxygen and all of the blood it needs. When you clamp a cord before the cord is limp and white, you cut off access to 1/4 cup of blood, lots of oxygen, iron, etc.

Shoulder dystocia can be dealt with by doing the Gaskin manuever or birthing in a squat(opens up hips 2-3 inches wider)position. Changing positions is the most important part when solving a dystocia. These happen WAY more often in the hospital because OB's CAUSE the problem. A baby needs to rotate after the head is born(most times) and if a Dr. starts to pull them out before restitution happens(rotating) they can cause stuck shoulders. This where patience would come in handy for most Dr's....

Hemorrhage can be dealt with by taking certain tinctures, or Yunnan B. It's seriously a miracle herb:) I've watched it stop a gushing bleed(think garden hose at full force) in less than 30 seconds. Also, having baby skin to skin, nursing right away, no interruptions after birth(the highest oxytocin release in a woman's body happens right after the birth which is why interruption can cause a bleed) and also cutting off a piece of the placenta or cord and placing it in your cheek can really help with a bleed. The best way to make sure you don't bleed is your diet though:) Lots of great green veggies, alfalfa capsules, getting your iron levels up:) 98% of the time, when the mom has had a low risk pregnancy and she's healthy, birth will happen without a hitch:)
PM me if you want to know more about the herbs etc:) Take Care!! Julie

DM-- I hope I didn't offend you saying I wouldn't do UC. :suprise: I just am one of those people that feels comfortable in a hospital and trusts doctors more than I trust myself to deliver my baby. My father is a doctor, and I spent much of my childhood in and around the hospital with him, so maybe that is why I have so much faith in medicine.

Anyway, I am glad UC works for you, and I am not knocking it! But after the experience I had with my son's birth, I would be too scared to try it.

^^^ NO! Not at all Hobber! I just wanted to make sure that no one thought I was saying that any certain way is the better way, etc:) I'm just a birth junkie ;) I don't want anyone to think I am saying that they are doing it "wrong" or anything. Doula (Julie)

I'd never heard of that about interrupting the oxytocin and hemorrhaging, but now I wonder if that's what caused mine. My first 3 deliveries were natural, the last one I got an epidural (after nearly biting hubby's hand off during a difficult labor) and that was the delivery that the Dr. had to go in after the placenta (something I never hope to experience again!). I'm going to look into that! The part about putting a piece of cord or placenta in your mouth though totally freaks me out and I'd probably vomit :)

LOL!! Tink- I just snorted tea out my nose!! Yes, for most people, the thought of doing that totally squicks them out;) It's used in places with no medical care etc and can save your life if you really need to stop the bleeding. I think in a life or death situation, most would be ok with tasting blood for a few minutes:) Now to totally eek you out...I blend up a one inch chunk of placenta in a strawberry smoothie after birth! LOL It helps with PP blood loss. I then dry and encapsulate the rest of the placenta. I have zero PP mood swings, no PPD, 1 week of bleeding...I swear by encapsulation:) Most people I tell, nearly barf...I get a sick sort of pleasure watching them turn green....

LOL! I'm all for homeopathic myself, but I got so caught up in "modern medicine" I never researched it. Heck, I was 17 with DD #1 and I grew up in the world of "giving the baby a bottle" so when the nurse in class said nursing I was all "Hey, I don't have to make bottles and it's good for the baby? Sign me up!" It took a few weeks to get used to nursing in public until we went to the Bahamas and the hotel manager shed light on everything, now I don't care where I "whip it out", lol. (Americans are so freaked out about nursing, really!!!)

I would like to bank his cord blood this time, I wasn't able to last time. I can definitely tell you I don't want to be a puppet again! That was freaking me out!

I love freaking people out too, lol, something so natural shouldn't be so "weird" lol! People freak out when I say it's a boy, cuz we only put back boys! PGD isn't socially acceptable in my area. Oh WELL!

Julie

I had shoulder dystocia with DD3.

I would love info on PPH too please :) I needed a transfusion with DD4.

TTC5- Some questions- What was iron level at? How was your diet? Any drugs during birth? How long was your labor? Did the Dr. put traction(pull) on the cord? How soon after birth was the cord cut? Did you feel safe and comfortable during your birth? Did they leave the baby on you or whisk her away? How soon after the birth did you start to bleed? Was it before or after the placenta came out? Did you have a full bladder after birth? Were you cold after the birth?

TTC5- Some questions- What was iron level at? They were fine during pregnancy but I was taking iron tablets.
How was your diet? I had bad ms was vomited a lot!
Any drugs during birth? No I go natural with all mine!
How long was your labor? I have had two pph with #3 and # 4. #3 went in to labour 4 weeks early and labour was around 14 hrs, #4 labour was around 10-12 max.
Did the Dr. put traction(pull) on the cord? No idea if they pulled it TBH??? I remember having a shot in my leg and they massaged my tummy?
How soon after birth was the cord cut? DD3 the dr did it right away as she was shoulder dystocia and was born with no pulse had to be resus. #4 it was cut after a few minutes by dh.
Did you feel safe and comfortable during your birth? DD4 I was very very tired as had been in pre labour for a few good days. #4 I was petrified of bleeding again and alas I did and even worse this time.
Did they leave the baby on you or whisk her away? # 3 was whisked away to resus and #4 snuggled right on me and latched herself on the boob right away!!
How soon after the birth did you start to bleed? Right away, not sure if I started bleeding while pushing though? DH and my sister said soon as baby was out it gushed out like a faucet :( My bp dropped, my hearing and visison went and I felt like I was dying.. probably was..
Was it before or after the placenta came out? Before placenta came out. With all pregnancies my placentas dont come away naturally i end up in theatre.
Did you have a full bladder after birth? Ummmm not sure as I then get taken for a general to help placenta out so am quite groggy
Were you cold after the birth? Yes and I shiver terribly but I go in to shock from the blood loss.

You aren't a wimp!! No WAY would I EVER attempt an unassisted birth. I almost bled to death after my son was born, because I hemorrhaged. If I hadn't been in a hospital, I would have died for sure. I wouldn't risk giving birth anywhere but a medical facility. But that's just me.

I totally agree. I didn't have any complications with either of my births but I still would never give birth anywhere without medical assistance available for me and my baby. I think I know too much working in the health system. I know how easily things can go wrong unfortunately.

DM, if your about can I bend your ear quickly
I have had a managed 3rd stage every time, just because it was the norm and I never spared a 2nd thought to it. This time again my consultants only wish due to lots of babies is managed 3rd stage. Now i recently read that it is the injection of ??? that also causes the after pains to be so bad. But i am recommended it incase of hemorrhaging, I've not had any blood losss with any of the babies yet, but I do know that it is quite possible. I have been taking my iron, much to the dismay of my constipation lol!!! but I'm nervous about not taking Dr's advice, say I go with the managed 3rd stage, what else shlould I do to minimise any risk of later hemorrhaging?? Immediate breast feed, bite of placenta (lol, can you imagine that, 'Cut me off a quick lump of that love!!') My diet is good aswell. Any advice appreciated:)

DM: I love to read your posts.....so full of knowledge. Now, why can you not live in the SE USA? You can tuck your newborn baby into one of those slings and oversee my delivery....lol!!!! That is true about the OR taking awhile to get prepped anyway. I think the knowledge of knowing you can handle anything childbirth throws at you or at least feeling confident that you can do it has a lot to do with it. I wish the gov would just leave homebirthers alone, too. They make it very difficult here to get a birth certificate and all. And it varies so much just county by county, because they rarely do it and they want to make sure they don't get in trouble for not having enough proof or paperwork.
How exactly do you recommend a placenta be delivered? When it seperates on it's own?

Tink: You look so great for 24 weeks and I lOVE your daugher holding the sign....too cute!!!

I am not knocking anyone for doing a hospital birth (I have done 6 of them), you really have to be comfortable hen giving birth and if it is at a hospital....good for you :) I think about everything that I let the hospitals do to me while trying to put me into labor.....I am so surprise I didn't have any serious complications. But, I didn't know any better. My birth experience with my last 2 was something to remember, not pain I want to forget. To think about being able to hold my newborn son in my arms without a ton of nurses waiting for me to hand him over makes me smile.

UC- Unassisted Childbirth:) My third was a UC waterbirth and we're planning on this one being the same:) It seems crazy to some but I feel I'm very educated about birth and my body, and I follow my intuition:) If I feel the need to seek help, I get it. Otherwise, I catch my own baby and birth without any interference. It just works for me and my hubby:)

Can't believe how close you are, ELP!!!! so flipping exciting!!!

I had an assisted water birth at home and my son ended up dying officially about 15 hrs after birth. I absolutely LOVED my waterbirth and am so sad I have to do this in a hospital this time. But the truth is, he might have lived had he been in the hospital w/ more knowledgeable people. Hard to know for sure, but just be aware that there are risks in everything. They are low but you need to be prepared for the guilt and consequences of your choices "if" something went wrong. That is not a discouragment at all, just be aware. I would have thought I would have known if something was wrong and I didn't until it was too late and there was no saving him.

I had 3 previous quick uncompicated births at the hospital before losing my son. No pain meds.

I know I only pop in now and then but wanted to update.

Currently 35 weeks pregnant.

I have never previously had any pregnancy complications and now I feel like I have everything:

1. Low Lying Placenta (it did move my 3rd trimester) 2. Gestational Diabetes 3. Now a positive Strep B test 4. Baby is transverse for now but I'll try to move her w/ chiro, accupuncture, yoga and whatever it takes to avoid a c-section. Although, avoiding labor does sound slightly appealing. :) That's the disadvantage of having kids close together, its less time to forget about the pain. :) It's just like I expect everything to go wrong at this point and just praying for a healthy delivery and baby.

The baby is small about 25th percentile but not under 10% which is when they would worry. Had an U/S last monday since I'd only gained 7 lbs at 33 week appt. but the baby was in a tight ball with both hands over her face so we didn't get to see her face at all. :(

Other than that, just tired 85% of the time and life is super crazy. We do plan to move out and rent next door as of March 15th so that is exciting and very very scary.

Begonia, Kris, Tink, how is everyone?

Awesome tip! I'll give it a shot. I went to the dentist today and they had me lay back and she didn't like that at all. I did feel her kicking closer to the top of my belly but she went back to her transverse position as soon as they sat me up. I just joke I am NOT going out on Baby #5 with a c-section after 4 previous vag. births. As if I have any control. :)

ELP - omg you're so close!! Do you usually go early/late/on time?

DM - that's amazing you've done an UC! I've had 2 perfect births and 2 complicated ones so I don't have the guts.

Girlmom - so not a wimp, I'd never even go birthing center. I love my midwife but I'm so paranoid since my first birth got complicated. I want the technology, not in my room but down the hall just in case lol

wp - don't blame you on not wanting an induction, they are evil painful. I'd hate if dh couldn't be there but I like your back-up plan.
All my placenta's have detached and delivered on their own well I pushed lol, the nurses massaged my belly to help it. I've never had one pulled out but you have to have a fairly patient birth team who's willing to wait for it.

Tink - 30! Jeez you're a real old fart lol Happy Belated Birthday!! Love the belly, looking great momma!

Iluv - thanks! Here's the recap, born 2/11 4:44am after less then 4hrs of labor and no pain meds. He was 8lbs 13oz and 21inches long. Charlie was frank breech till 36 wks, inversions with heat, cold and music flipped him. I too was not going c-section without a fight. Check out this site, it's very helpful Transverse Lie, or baby lying sideways | spinningbabies.com (http://spinningbabies.com/baby-positions/all-positions/sideways). GL :)

It is supposedly pretty accurate I think? But I think you have to have a scan about 6 wks to confirm the side it is growing on. it's that Ramzi's theory... there are some links about it on here somewhere.

Ladies I have a bump pic! My phone is playing up atm but for some reason it will take a picture in facewarp and let me email it to myself at a cost of 31pence!!! But it doesn't recognise the camera being on, strange, but anyways!! This is 37+4, I have gained the princely amount of 4lb!, measuring right on track, but people keep telling me I don't look as big this time adn its starting to niggle at me, not that I mind having a 7lber!!!!! I'll see if I can track down my last dd's from the sameish gestation aswell for comparison, but for now (p.s. excuse the mess lol, its the only mirror left in the house:oops:) Apologies in advance for scary bare belly pictures lol!!
Current bump 37+4
1581

Last bump 38+4?? Ended up being 8lb 10oz baby, 3 days late
1582

Bottom picture looks like a much bigger baby, do you think??

It is supposedly pretty accurate I think? But I think you have to have a scan about 6 wks to confirm the side it is growing on. it's that Ramzi's theory... there are some links about it on here somewhere.

I should get a scan sometime between 6-8 weeks. I usually do, anyway with my history of miscarriage just so they can find the heartbeat and make sure everything's going well. I go this Thurs (5 weeks) to re-check my betas...I'm nervous about them doubling properly but trying not to worry too much!

hope.ful!! Any NT scan news for us????

I didn't get my ticker taken off, so don't feel bad, but I lost the baby at 8w3d. Baby stopped growing around 7w when I started bleeding, and there was no heartbeat. Hopefully I will be back here in a couple more months but for now, we are trusting the Lord's timing!

Thankyou ladies:hugs: My last baby bump pic looks kinda scary doesn't it lol!!! I have the midwife today at about 2 pm, currently 9.30 am here atm uk, so I'll get her to measure up just to make sure that little one has grown some. plus I was awoken with a pain last night!! I say 'A' pain, only the one lol, I got rather excited for a while and then fell back to sleep, oh well I've still got 2 weeks anyway so I shouldn't start getting carried away yet:bigsmile:

Well I'm back from the midwifes, it was her and a trainee, the trainee measured me at 38, excellant, but then the midwife said 36 so I'm back in next week to see how things are going:agree: I may need to try and give this one a little encouragement to leave a bit sooner, hmmm, nothing really works imo apart from a sweep or two, I may even need to take the kids up on their offer of a bit of trampolining with them lol!!
